ORX — Factions Explained

Hello, Kings!

It's time to learn more about factions of ORX! For some of you it will serve as a good memory refresher about the 1st faction of ORX, and for others — an introduction to the Rune Guardians. And of course, the 2nd episode of these series will show you the upcoming faction of Dune Reavers!

First up are all familliar Rune Guardians. They were the original protectors of the realm and can be called the oldest nation. Long ago they were on a brink of destruction due to magic forces getting out of control. The only way to salvation for them was to purge the magic from their lands and control everything that was left through the power of runes — hence giving them the name Rune Guardians.

Next are mysterious new Dune Reavers. Long ago they lived in a beautiful city-oasis named Ruan. But then the Cataclysm striked and once lush lands turned to barren deserts. Surviving the harsh deserts is a fit achievable only by the strongest — that's why Warrior code and melee combat lie deep in the culture of Dune Reavers.

Hope you've enjoyed today's excourse into the factions of ORX! Both Rune Guardians and Dune Reavers will be playable in ORX Early Access — coming August 30th!

Tower defence deckbuilder ORX gets a second faction that ditches castles for arrow-lobbing armies

Well, this is a pleasant surprise. When I first sampled the tower defence deckbuilding delights of ORX a couple of months ago, I'd assumed that we'd be playing as the demo's medieval castle builders throughout. Today, however, devs Johnbell have announced a brand-new faction for the game, the sand-loving Dune Reavers. Even more intriguing, though, is that the Dune Reavers aren't actually big fans of building, you know, towers, favouring instead the brute force approach of their large armies. Can you still call it tower defence if there aren't any towers involved? Decide for yourself by watching the new gameplay trailer below.

ORX Demo leaving Steam on July 14th

Hello, Kings

With ORX Beta on our hands and Early Access coming on August 30th, it’s time to talk about ORX Demo.

For us the demo was never an afterthought, but a real slice of the main game. It meant not only adding all the main features to the demo, but also updating them multiple times to represent our current vision of the game. And for what it was ORX Demo did a pretty good job at introducing players to the main concepts of ORX.

However, as mentioned in the past, ORX Demo got outdated and now no longer fully represents the game we’re making. Unfortunately, with the team being fully focused on developing the game for the Early Access release, we simply don’t have enough resources to update the demo yet once more. Which means it time to finally say goodbye. At least for now.
On July 14th 12 pm PDT we will remove ORX Demo from Steam.
It had an amazing run and helped introduce so many people to the game — some of you even played it for dozens of hours! But now it would’ve been simply not enough to show you everything we have in store.

Though we might re-enable the demo during Steam festivals or some other events, it’s probably your last chance to try out this version of ORX.

And if you want to have a taste of things to come in Early Access — you can always join our Discord and take part in events and activities for a chance to join ORX Beta! Or simply share your feedback and help the Team create the best version of ORX possible.

That’s it for this time! Stay tuned for more devlogs, announcements and development updates.

See you on August 30th!

ORX Early Access — Release Date

Hi! Today we have some huge news for you - an Early Access release date for ORX. Here is a brand new trailer that reveals it, but in case you’re impatient to know it we will announce it upfront: it’s 30th of August 2022. It’s less than two months from now, so the wait is almost over!

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]

And now we are happy to present you with a thorough list of everything that will be included in the Early Access version of ORX.

When you will be going through the list, please keep in mind that those are just the things that will be featured in the game on day one - we are obviously planning to expand on pretty much every aspect of the game, but we will talk about our plans for the future of ORX a bit later, so don't miss it. With that out of the way, let's get to the exciting part!
2 playable factions
The two factions that would be available on the release are nothing alike - it's more like two completely different playing experiences. The maps and the enemies will stay the same for both factions, but that's about it in terms of similarities. With Rune Wardens you will get a straightforward Tower Defense: they are all about building castles and upgrading them with different runes and technologies.

As for Dune Reavers - they can't build any castles at all! They can only rely on their units and need to constantly move them across the battlefield as well as build special structures to enhance their abilities.
4 acts in the roguelike campaign
The campaign contains 4 acts with 4 missions in each. It's possible to complete them all on the first try, but it's more likely that you'll manage to do it after a few runs, during which you will unlock new powerful cards and finally build your perfect deck. The game is intended to be almost endlessly replayable, so each run will bring something new to the table.
4 bosses with unique behavior
You will encounter a boss at the end of each run - and each one of them will create some unique problems for you. One of them is just an enormous guy with a club, and another is a cunning sorcerer, scattering his totems across the map. You will need to observe their behavior and adapt to it in order to defeat them.
4 different biomes (with sub-biomes)
You will have to fight the ORX in the desert, in the snowy wastes, and in other geographical conditions, each with its unique features. The terrain is procedurally generated, so the two maps won't ever be exactly the same.
9 clans and 7 enemy types
The ORX forces feature a lot of different units, each with different behavior patterns and attack styles. The Berserkers are super fast, aggressive and numerous, the Snipers will try to ruin your castles from afar, the Mega ORX are tough as hell and very effective in combat, etc.
Elemental system
Every enemy in the game as well as every upgrade for your castles or unites is powered with a specific element - Fire, Wind, etc. It makes the game deeper - if you are up against the ORX from the Fire clan, it would be wise to upgrade your castle with Water weapons.
Weather system
Various weather events affect various gameplay aspects, such as the map layout and the performance of different units and weapons. For example, a heavy rain or a sandstorm may affect the effectiveness of your missiles.
Event system
After completing each mission the player will get to participate in a narrative event. that offers the players choice and affect their playthrough,
Progression system
Both the players and the ORX progress during the campaign. The player gets stronger by acquiring new artifacts and powerful cards, accumulating corruption in the process. The enemies unlock new types of warriors, elements, and special cards of their own. Progressing through the game the player also unlocks new game modes, content, and various secrets.
Lots of new cards
Throughout the campaign, you will be able to modify your deck with countless additional cards. Some are faction specific, some can be used by both factions. And some special events will even allow you to use the Dune Reavers cards playing as Rune Wardens and vice-versa! This impressive variety will make your every run truly unique.
3 Game modes: Classic, Hard Mode, Ironman
We understand that hard-core isn't for everyone, so you can choose the level of difficulty that will suit you the most. And if you are looking for additional challenges you can always turn on the Ironman mode to deprive yourself of the opportunity to replay missions. It will set the stakes incredibly high!
Detailed tutorial for both factions
Since two factions are nothing alike, each of them will get a separate tutorial. We will make sure that none of our complex systems is misunderstood due to the lack of explanation.
Statistics
ORX features various tools that allow you to share your results with other players.

Please feel free to share your opinion on all of this in the comments, - if you feel like we’ve missed something important, we could address it in our next post. And join our Discord server to discuss the game further. As always - thank you for taking interest in our game! We won't let you down.
