Cavity Busters Demo during Steam Game Festival

Hey everyone! I'm excited to release a demo of Cavity Busters! The demo will be available during the Steam Game Festival (right now) and then *poof*... it'll be gone. But the game will be releasing very soon. No set date yet.

Play through the first area of Cavity Busters, The Goop Canals. Fight 3 different bosses, find the hidden boss and play around with over 100 different upgrades! You'll be able to loop through the area a couple times to get the feeling of having a load of different upgrades.

If you have any issues, bugs, or questions about teeth that you would like the wrong answer to, please join the discord and come hang out! We also take game suggestions and feedback like it was free money! To date we've added every suggestion made on our discord. I mean, it's only five suggestions but whatever.

Cavity Busters Devlog # 3 - Synergies

Welcome! This week I worked on synergies!

Akin to other games with synergy systems, when you get 2 or more upgrades that combine together, you'll receive some nice benefits, like stats up, more effective power ups and so on.

The synergy below results when you collect Dirty Necklace ( a disease) and Laser Shot ( a power up) giving a really nice laser of death attack. The disease in this case will need to be cured first to achieve the synergy. That won't always be the case. Just when it makes sense.



Not all synergies will be super over powered game changers though. For instance the combo below gives two fairly weak orbitals. Still the progression feels nice.



Synergies for the most part make sense. If you see two items that seem like they would go hand in hand in real life, then they'll probably work in game. For instance there's a tooth brush, tooth paste, and floss upgrade. Get all three and you'll be supah fresh!!

To end things on different note, here's a quick look at boss number 16!

Cavity Busters Devlog #2 - Utensils for digging

Lets dig! This week I implemented a new mechanic called digging.



Digging through walls is kinda like secret rooms from Binding of Isaac except you can dig through any wall that doesn't already have a room behind it. Digging costs one health and puts you into contact with harder enemies (weeny shaped enemies) then what you would normally encounter on the current level. Why would you want to put yourself in more danger? If you notice in the gif above, there are little island rooms on the mini map. Rooms that aren't connected to the main level. These CAN be special rooms that contain super powerful items or other goodies and secrets.

To go along with this new mechanic are two new upgrades.

First one is a Fork and Knife:



This gives you two free digs per level.

Second one is Tooth and Nail : (can you tell that I made these two upgrades within seconds of each other?)



This upgrade gives a slight damage increase as well as a very small chance for a wall to be dug through upon clearing a room.

Some ideas I have for new upgrades to go along with this mechanic is one that will increase the amount of island rooms that can be generated. Another gives super small stat increases for digging through rooms. The mechanic is young so it will evolve and change I'm sure.

Last but not least, I leave you with a tease of the final boss. You can't see the boss because his design isn't finished yet but you can see some of his attacks :)

Cavity Busters Devlog #1 - Upgrades Mirror and Pink Eye

Hello and welcome to the first devlog on steam! I'll hopefully release one in regular intervals as a way of purging my mind and also letting everyone know what I'm working on. I say hopefully because I'm bad a writing and I have zero time and started a devlog before and it ended miserably.....but...ya know... gotta promote promote. Anyways on to the stuffs!!

First up is some upgrades :
The first one is The Mirror



The Mirror is a type of upgrade that I'm calling "Next Shot" attacks. Your main form of attacking involves shooting and picking up your tooth. When picking up your tooth, there'll be chance a "Next Shot" attack will be loaded. If this is true the game will display an icon of the upgrade that is loaded. This way you can plan your attack and make the most of your "Next Shot". So The Mirror when loaded and shot will deflect enemy bullets within a small radius back towards the enemy. It's super powerful and a blast to use.

The next upgrade I worked on is called Pink Eye



This one is a disease. Diseases are double edged swords, having both a positive and negative effect. However diseases can be cured at a cost. Pink Eye, as you might be able to tell has some nice chaining properties. The negative side of Pink Eye is enemies will shoot extra bullets making even easier baddies more of a risk. However, on death, enemies will shoot friendly bullets at the nearest enemy which can cause fun splats. Fun splats per minute goes up exponentially.

That's it for the fun stuff!

The game isn't set for early access but I'm throwing around the possibility of doing that. If I did, the price would probably start off on the lower end and work its way up. If that sounds cool to you let me know.
