Baldur's Gate 3 News

An ambitious Baldur's Gate 3 custom campaign mod's first build is up and running, and its devs are teasing demo news soon

For a little while now, a group of Baldur's Gate 3 modders have been working on adding a custom adventure to the RPG that'll see you travel to Minthara's hometown via some locations you'll remember from previous Baldur’s Gate games. It's called Path to Menzoberranzan, and its devs have now gotten thir first build working, with demo-related news seemingly just around the corner.

I interviewed Lotrich and Tomobamba, the mod's project lead and lead writer, about their creation earlier this year, around the time they'd set their sights on releasing a demo in mid 2025, with a full release to follow at some point down the line depending on how that went. Since then they've been hard at work building and fleshing out the likes of custom locations, bosses, and a whole cast of new companions.

I screwed up Karlach's ending in Baldur's Gate 3: I thought I'd picked her best outcome but her actor says 'not very much' of her is actually left

You know, I was pretty happy with the ending I got in Baldur's Gate 3 in my (so far) only playthrough. Everything seemed to work out pretty well for everyone. But, and spoilers ahead folks, I guess I was wrong...

Karlach's actor knows about the 3,138 'filthy' Baldur's Gate 3 stories you've written on fanfic sites and still sends all their love to fans for changing their life: 'I don't read it, but I am aware'

One of the fun things about the eternal, universal furore around Baldur's Gate 3 is that the game's actors clearly love it just as much as the fans do. Dip into the BG3 category on Twitch and your odds are pretty good that one or more of the streamers you find will have voiced a major character or two...

Larian jumped to improve Karlach's ending in Baldur's Gate 3 right away, with voice actor Samantha Béart saying it was nigh-on immediate: 'As soon as it was out, I got a call'

Update - 25/06/2025: Larian's reached out to confirm that Karlach's ending was, in fact, made in response to the game's playerbase, with Michael Douse additionally clarifying on X that "Karlach's final ending was indeed in response to fan feedback, with conversations starting around August 2023." Presumably late August, given the game's initial release date of August 3...

Karlach actor was cast in a game "bigger than Baldur's Gate 3," but it got axed

After two years of social media dominance, iconic memes, and a whole lot of smooching, the sun has finally set on Baldur's Gate 3. With the release of Patch 8, the RPG's swansong update, Faerun and its denizens close their eyes - the Netherbrain is gone, the city is saved, and, if you're me, you're cozying up with Shadowheart on a farm in the countryside. But for Samantha Béart, the actor behind everyone's favorite tiefling, Karlach, the work doesn't stop. After a year of relative silence, they're lending their rich tones to new videogames - Absolum, Fading Echo, and Tron: Catalyst being just some of "at least nine" fresh projects. In many ways, the shadow of Avernus will always linger, but they aren't letting that worry them - in fact, this next year is all about demonstrating their range.
