CHRISTMAS EVE PTR UPDATE – DECEMBER 24, 2025

[p]Merry Christmas Eve, Defenders![/p][p]
[/p][p]Yesterday we released the first part of our holiday PTR update, and today we’re following it up with another PTR patch based on the early feedback and issues you’ve already found. Both of these updates are still on the Public Test Realm, which means everything you see here is still being tested, tuned, and adjusted with your help before we push it to the live branch. This pass is mainly focused on Arcanist armor, fusion interactions, Rift balance, and a few pet and reward tweaks that came straight from your reports.[/p][p]

[/p][p]ARCANIST ARMOR & FUSION BEHAVIOR[/p][p]
[/p][p]We’ve updated how Arcanist armor interacts with fusion sets to avoid bricking  builds and to better match how most players are currently gearing.[/p][p]
[/p][p]Arcanist Armor Changes:[/p][p]
[/p][p]- Crown:[/p][p]  - Grants fusion to Tower 1.[/p][p]  - Now prevents completion of the Tower 2 Guard Armor fused set.[/p][p]
[/p][p]- Gloves:[/p][p]  - Grants fusion to Tower 2.[/p][p]  - Now prevents completion of the Tower 1 Ancient Armor fused set.[/p][p]
[/p][p]- Chest:[/p][p]  - Grants fusion to Tower 3.[/p][p]  - Now prevents completion of the Tower 4 Miner Armor fused set.[/p][p]
[/p][p]- Boots:[/p][p]  - Grants fusion to Tower 4.[/p][p]  - Now prevents completion of the Tower 3 Militia Armor fused set.[/p][p]
[/p][p]Player feedback note:[/p][p] Many players mentioned they had spent a lot of time farming the Crown, and after our earlier tower changes, most of their armor ended up being Miner Armor. In that setup, the previous Arcanist behavior could effectively brick their builds. These changes are intended to fix that and make Arcanist feel usable again without wiping out existing setups.[/p][p]
[/p][p]- Rift boss accessories can no longer be used to complete fusion armor sets.[/p][p]
[/p][p]- Arcanist pieces now correctly will NOT fuse with the specific sets they are restricted from completing.[/p][p]
[/p][p]- Arcanist Gloves now properly drop on Forsaken Temple.[/p][p]
[/p][p]- Updated descriptions on all Arcanist armor pieces to better explain their behavior.[/p][p].[/p][p]- Regular Soldier’s Bracers no longer count as Defense 5 / rifted.[/p][p]
[/p][p]RIFT & GENERAL GAMEPLAY TUNING[/p][p]
[/p][p]- Rift Mode should now properly apply in Challenge Mode[/p][p]
[/p][p]- The Bonus Wave and Bonus Wave Hardcore chests are now properly spawning in all modes.[/p][p]
[/p][p]- Updated the Spider tooltip to better reflect its behavior.[/p][p]
[/p][p]Rifted Enemies and Resistance:[/p][p]
[/p][p]- Ogres now spawn as Rifted 100% of the time (up from 90%).[/p][p]- Rift resistance on non-Rift enemies has been decreased to 65%.[/p][p]
[/p][p]To keep fusion damage still feeling like a 100% bonus against Rifted enemies:[/p][p]
[/p][p]- Rifted enemies now take 165% fusion damage (down from 185%).[/p][p]
[/p][p]- The non-Rifted training dummy now has the same Rift resistance that non-Rift enemies have.[/p][p]
[/p][p]- The Rifted training dummy now takes 165% fusion damage, so tests on the dummies line up with the intended “100% bonus damage” behavior for fusion towers.[/p][p]

[/p][p]PET CHANGES & NEW REWARDS[/p][p]
[/p][p]Naming & clarity updates[/p][p]
[/p][p]- Renamed Rifted Propeller Cat to Fused Propeller Cat.[/p][p]
[/p][p]- Renamed Yellow Ramster Can to Fused Yellow Ramster Can.[/p][p]
[/p][p]- Renamed Rifted Mista Mine to Fused Mista Mine.[/p][p]
[/p][p]- Renamed Rifted Mystical Genie to Fused Mystical Genie.[/p][p]
[/p][p]-  Gac the Golden Dice pet the proper “Golden” name so it matches other golden pets.[/p][p]
[/p][p]Tower Giraffes (Pure Strategy):[/p][p]
[/p][p]- Tower Giraffes are now awarded on Wave 25 in Pure Strategy[/p][p]
[/p][p]- Each Tower Giraffe provides:[/p][p]  - 10% Cast Rate bonus.[/p][p]  - 5% Active Hero bonus.[/p][p]- All Tower Giraffes roll with 0.85 stat scalars.[/p][p]
[/p][p]- There are 4 variants, each tuned for different builder styles:[/p][p]
[/p][p]  1. Rolls with Tower Speed, Tower Range, Tower Damage.[/p][p]  2. Rolls with Tower Health, Tower Damage, Tower Range.[/p][p]  3. Rolls with Tower Health, Tower Speed, Tower Range.[/p][p]  4. Rolls with Tower Damage, Tower Speed, Tower Range.[/p][p]
[/p][p]Animus tuning[/p][p]
[/p][p]- Animus pets now have a fastest attack rate of 0.4 seconds.[/p][p]
[/p][p]  - This is a cap on how fast they can attack once fully geared and optimized.[/p][p]
[/p][p]Golden Gemstones[/p][p]
[/p][p]- Golden Gemstones now drop at Wave 100+ Survival on The Summit.[/p][p]
[/p][p]  - 20% chance to drop when the conditions are met.[/p][p]
[/p][p]- A Golden Gemstone can contain one of the 4 different buff effects (matching the existing gemstone types).[/p][p]Thank you for jumping into not just one, but two holiday PTR updates back-to-back. We know this is a busy time of year, so the fact that you’re spending part of your holiday testing builds, breaking things, and writing feedback for us means a lot. These kinds of quick follow-up patches are only possible because you’re so active on the PTR and honest about what feels good and what doesn’t. Everything in this update is still in that “work in progress” stage, so please keep telling us what works, what feels off, and where something still isn’t clear. The more we learn from PTR, the better shape these changes as we move towards our goal of patching before the new year. If you’d like to support the game’s development, please consider checking out our DLC on Steam, and if you want a place to share builds, report bugs, or just talk Dungeon Defenders with other players, we’d love to see you in the official Discord server (the link is on the store page and in our community posts).[/p][p]
[/p][p] From all of us on the Community Development Team: thank you for your time, your patience, and your passion for Dungeon Defenders: Awakened. Have a wonderful holiday, enjoy the PTR updates, and happy defending![/p][p]

PTR Update 12/23/25: The Christmas Update

[p]Happy holidays, Defenders![/p][p][/p][p]We’re bringing a Christmas-flavored PTR update your way, packed with new loot, returning fan-favorite pets, Arcanist armor adjustments, and some love for Challenge and Pure Strategy modes. Think of this as a stocking full of toys for your builders and min-maxers to dig into over the break. As always, all of this is on the PTR first so we can gather your feedback and tune things before it hits live.[/p][p][/p][p]Pure Strategy Loot Scaling
[/p][p]- Pure Strategy has had its loot scaling to be inline with mixed mode.[/p][p]  - This brings its rewards more in line with other high-end modes and makes it more rewarding to push.[/p][p][/p][p]- The victory chest awarded for completing waves other than wave 15 and 25 is now awarded in pure strategy modified with a bonus difficulty[/p][p][/p][p]Kringler’s Cap and Boss Accessories
[/p][p]- Kringler’s Cap now drops in Yuletide.[/p][p]  -It’s scalars are equivalent to a boss accessory.
[/p][p]- Boss accessories have been added to their respective boss maps in Pure Strategy.[/p][p]  - They roll as normal accessories, just like other boss drops.
[/p][p]Pet Additions and Changes
[/p][p]We’ve brought back 4 class DPS pets by popular demand from the original game: the Animuses.[/p][p]- Squire Animus[/p][p]- Apprentice Animus[/p][p]- Monk Animus[/p][p]- Huntress Animus[/p][p][/p][p]General Animus behavior:[/p]
  • [p]Drops in place of the gemstones on mix mode summit[/p]
[p]- These Pets fire up to 3 projectiles that explode on impact.[/p][p]- Animus Pets roll with a random element (discluding fusion) [/p][p]- Animus stats (PTR tuning):[/p][p]  - Range: 2200[/p][p]  - Damage Scalar: 185[/p][p]  - Attack Rate: 0.63[/p][p]  - Explosion Radius: 500[/p][p][/p][p]A brief description of each Animus:[/p][p][/p][p]1. Squire – “A reflection of the Squire’s unbreakable will, this Animus answers every threat with disciplined force and relentless defense.”[/p][p]2. Monk – “Channeling twisted inner energy, the Monk Animus strikes with calm precision, punishing all who threaten Etheria’s harmony.”[/p][p]3. Huntress – “Cold, patient, and merciless, the Huntress Animus hunts without hesitation, eliminating threats before they can advance.”[/p][p]4. Apprentice – “Fueled by raw arcane hunger, the Apprentice Animus unleashes destructive light, caring little for restraint as long as Etheria is protected.”[/p][p][/p][p]- Gold Mini Demon Lord:[/p][p]  - The fastest attack rate is now capped at 0.25 seconds.
[/p][p]- Rift Mini Demon Lord:[/p][p]  - The fastest attack rate is now capped at 0.30 seconds.
[/p][p]Crystal Core & Gold Crystal Core[/p][p]- Crystal Core now drops on Warping Core and Moving Core:[/p][p]  - Main stat: Defense Damage.[/p][p]  - Rolls with:[/p][p]    - Defense Damage (scalar 0.6)[/p][p]    - Tower Health (scalar 0.6)[/p][p]    - Ability (scalar 1.5)[/p][p]  - The Rift variant focuses on Ability as well, matching this layout with Rift scaling.[/p][p]
[/p][p]- Gold Crystal Core now drops on Warping Core and Moving Core (with conditions):[/p][p]  - You must have a Bonus Difficulty toggled to obtain this reward.[/p][p]  - Main stat: Defense Damage.[/p][p]  - Rolls with:[/p][p]    - Defense Damage (scalar 0.75)[/p][p]    - Tower Health (scalar 0.75)[/p][p]    - Ability (scalar 1.5)[/p][p]  - 10% drop chance.[/p][p]Golden Tower Buff Gemstones:

[/p][p]- Gold variants of all tower buff gemstones are now awarded on completing Wave 100 on Summit.[/p][p]  - 20% chance to be awarded.[/p][p]- These gold gemstones:[/p][p]  - Roll with hero stats.[/p][p]  - Main stat: Hero Health with a scalar of 3.[/p][p]  - Buff effects are 10% stronger than their original counterparts.[/p][p]Note:[/p][p]- Just like other golden pets, you must:[/p][p]   - Have Rifted Mode Toggled[/p][p]  - Have a Bonus Difficulty toggled to be eligible for the reward.[/p][p]
[/p][p]Arcanist Armor Adjustments[/p][p]
[/p][p]- All 4 Arcanist armor pieces now drop on Act 4 and 5 boss maps:[/p][p]  - Arcanist Crown and Arcanist Chest: drop on The Keep.[/p][p]  - Arcanist Boots and Arcanist Gloves: drop on Forsaken Temple.[/p][p]
[/p][p]- Arcanist pieces are treated like other fused gear but will prevent completion of the fused primitive set when equipped.[/p][p]
[/p][p]- All Arcanist pieces can now be used with regular (non-fused) armor to complete their standard set bonuses.[/p][p]
[/p][p]- Each piece grants fusion to a specific tower slot and prevents completing a particular fused armor set:[/p][p]
[/p][p]  - Crown: Grants fusion to Tower 1 → prevents completion of the Tower 4 set with Miner Armor.[/p][p]  - Gloves: Grants fusion to Tower 2 → prevents completion of the Tower 3 set with Militia Armor.[/p][p]  - Chest: Grants fusion to Tower 3 → prevents completion of the Tower 2 set with Guard Armor.[/p][p]  - Boots: Grants fusion to Tower 4 → prevents completion of the Tower 1 set with Ancient Armor.[/p][p]
[/p][p]Fused Boss Accessories (Rifted, Defense 5)[/p][p]
[/p][p]New fused boss accessories now drop on all boss maps in Rifted Pure Strategy:[/p][p]
[/p][p]- These accessories are Defense 5 (rifted) versions and grant tower fusion.[/p][p]
[/p][p]Challenge Mode Updates[/p][p]
[/p][p]- Challenge Mode now has Bonus Difficulties enabled.[/p][p]
[/p][p]- Challenge Mode can now toggle Rift Mode.[/p][p]  - Rift Mode in Challenge follows the same enemy spawn percentages as the other modes.[/p][p]- A reward chest has been added to Challenge Rifted Mode on all maps..[/p][p]- Bonus Difficulties are now toggleable in Challenge Mode.[/p][p]- Bonus Difficulties in Challenge Mode scale similarly to Mixed Mode for loot[/p][p][/p][p]Challenge Weapons & Rifted Versions[/p][p]- Challenge weapons have been renamed to match their Dungeon Defenders 1 counterparts.[/p][p]  - Their original DD1-style weapon descriptions have been restored.[/p][p]  - Their scaling and stats remain unchanged.
[/p][p]- Rift Mode now awards Rifted versions of all challenge weapons.[/p][p]  - These versions retain the identity and feel of the originals, with Rifted-style stat treatment.[/p][p]- Created a new boss accessory for Forsaken Temple:[/p][p]  - Seal of the Forsaken (a new brooch-type accessory).[/p][p][/p][p]- Created new Rift icons for:[/p][p]  - Sapphire Brooch[/p][p]  - Soldier’s Bracer[/p][p]  - Ancient Monocle[/p][p]  - King’s Face[/p][p]  - Seal of the Forsaken
[/p][p]Thank you so much for playing, testing, and sharing your thoughts with us. The feedback you’ve given during these PTR cycles has a huge impact on how we tune balance, build rewards, and plan future updates. There’s a lot packed into this holiday PTR, and we really appreciate everyone who takes the time to jump in and experiment with it. Our current goal is to move this PTR patch to the live branch before the start of the new year, as long as things are stable and your feedback doesn’t reveal any major issues. We can’t promise an exact date, but that’s the window we’re aiming for, and your testing helps us get there. If you’d like to support the game’s ongoing development, please consider checking out our DLC on Steam. And if you want to chat with other Defenders, share builds, or give direct feedback, we’d love to see you in the official Discord server (you can find the link on the store page or in our community posts). From all of us working on Dungeon Defenders: Awakened, thank you for your support, your patience, and your passion for the game. Have a wonderful holiday season, and happy defending![/p][p]
[/p][p]Sincerely,[/p][p]

[p]Pet Changes:[/p]
  • [p]Lil' Bomber did not receive an increase in this update.[/p]

First PTR Update

[p]Greetings Defenders,[/p][p]This is our first Official Public Test Realm (PTR) update from the Dungeon Defenders: Awakened Community Development Team, and we are really excited to roll it out. The PTR is where we can safely try balance passes, new rewards, and experimental ideas with your help before anything lands on the live branch.[/p][p]If you enjoy building, theory crafting, and breaking things in the name of science, this is the build we want you on. The PTR runs alongside the main game: you can hop in, test wild setups, then swap back to the live branch and keep playing as normal.[/p][p]For this update, our goals are simple:[/p][p]- Give builders more tools to play with, through new tower pets, tower weapons, and targeted defense tuning.[/p][p]- Use your feedback to decide what should go to live as it is, what needs number tweaks, and what might be too disruptive.[/p][p]We will keep both the Live and PTR branches playable at the same time. Whenever we update the PTR, we will post an announcement on Steam to let everyone know that the branch was updated and to summarize what changed. Over time, we will continue to adjust values and fix issues on the PTR based on your reports until we feel the patch is ready for the live game. At that point, we will ship the patch to the live branch with a final set of official patch notes.[/p][p]If you want to be directly involved in shaping how DD:A plays, this PTR cycle is your chance. Jump in, stress test your favorite builds, try new things, and tell us what feels strong, weak, confusing, or just plain fun.[/p][p][/p][p]HOW TO ACCESS THE PTR (STEAM)[/p][p]1. Open your Steam Library and right click Dungeon Defenders: Awakened.[/p][p]2. Click "Properties..."[/p][p]3. Go to the "Betas" tab.[/p][p]4. In the dropdown, select the PTR / Public Test Realm branch (usually called "ptr" or similar).[/p][p]5. Close the window and let Steam download the update.[/p][p]To go back to the live version, repeat the steps above and set Betas back to "None".[/p][p][/p][p]WHAT IS IN THIS PTR UPDATE? (OVERVIEW)[/p][p]- Series EV and Warden tower balance passes, including big improvements to Proton Beams and Roots of Purity.[/p][p]- Hero ability cooldown tuning across Squire, Apprentice, Huntress, EV, Monk, Summoner, and Warden.[/p][p]- Pure Strategy improvements, including Hardcore and Bonus difficulty toggles and a much higher Rift conversion chance.[/p][p]- New tower-focused pets and class guardians, plus a long list of tower-specific weapon drops for every hero.[/p][p]- Enemy and Rift damage adjustments that encourage mixing fused and non-fused towers while keeping fusion set bonuses meaningful.[/p][p]Everything below is PTR only and subject to change based on your feedback.[/p][p][/p][p]-------------------------------------------------[/p][p]TOWERS AND DEFENSES[/p][p]-------------------------------------------------[/p][p]SERIES EV - PROTON BEAM[/p][p]- Maximum beam distance increased from 750 to 1250 (about 12.5 meters of maximum buff length).[/p][p]- Minimum DU distance increased from 25 to 50 (minimum placement spacing is now about 0.5 meters).[/p][p]- Maximum DU distance increased from 750 to 1000 (maximum DU cost is reached after about 10 meters, with the remaining length costing fewer DU).[/p][p]- DU health scale increased from 1.2 to 1.75 (about 45 percent more base health per DU).[/p][p]- DU health exponent increased to 15 percent, giving a much larger health increase at high stats.[/p][p]- Health drain per tick reduced from 4.5 HP to 3 HP, so beams last longer while enemies walk through them.[/p][p]- Defense Rate hero stat exponent increased from 0.20 to 0.25, so Proton Beams reach their maximum attack rate faster.[/p][p]- Proton Beam Shock Rune stun duration increased from 3 seconds to 5 seconds[/p][p][/p][p]SERIES EV - HEAT CANNON[/p][p]- Defense Range hero stat exponent increased from 0.30 to 0.50.[/p][p] This gives the Heat Cannon much better range scaling and makes it more viable on larger maps.[/p][p][/p][p]WARDEN - ROOTS, WISPS, WRATH, SHROOMY, SLUDGE[/p][p]Roots of Purity:[/p][p]- Tower Health hero stat scalar increased from 1.0 to 1.5, bringing it in line with the Magic Blockade.[/p][p]- Tower Health hero stat exponent increased from 1.005 to 1.055.[/p][p] Roots of Purity should now feel like a proper, tanky wall option.[/p][p][/p][p]Wisp Den:[/p][p]- Defense Unit cost reduced from 4 DU to 3 DU.[/p][p]- Wrath Defense Rate buff multiplier increased from 1.25 to 1.30.[/p][p]- Wisp Rune explosion radius increased from 250 to 500.[/p][p]- Wrath Mode tooltip updated to match the new behavior.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]Shroomy Geyser (Wrath Mode):[/p][p]- In Wrath Mode, Shroomy Geyser now applies a 10 percent Strength Drain for 3 seconds.[/p][p]- This debuff is now properly reflected in the UI.[/p][p][/p][p]Sludge Launcher:[/p][p]- Radius of the sludge pool created by its rune increased from 300 to 400, about a 33 percent larger area.[/p][p][/p][p]SUMMONER - ARCHER MINIONS[/p][p]- Tower Health hero stat scalar increased from 1.0 to 1.25.[/p][p] This is about 25 percent more health and lets Archers reach well over one million HP with high Vitality.[/p][p]- Life Leech Rune health penalty reduced:[/p][p] - Internal value reduced from 1.0 to 0.6.[/p][p] - At rank 8 this lowers the maximum HP reduction from around 25 percent to roughly 10 to 15 percent.[/p][p] This makes Life Leech much less punishing to use on Archers.[/p][p][/p][p]GUARDIAN - DIVINE JUDGEMENT[/p][p]- Divine Judgement blast radius increased from 150 to 350, making the hit box much easier to connect with.[/p][p]- Spellbook updated to reflect this change.[/p][p][/p][p]HOLY BULWARK[/p][p]- Holy Bulwark’s protection effect now applies correctly.[/p][p] The range scaling previously reused a divide by 100 that did not belong on the effect, which made it far weaker than intended. NEWS For The Public Testing Realm

[p]Greetings Defenders,[/p][p]We want to take a moment to remind everyone that the Public Testing Realm (PTR) is fully open to all players and has been available even before the Community Development Team began work on updates. It will remain publicly accessible moving forward. If you would like to join the testing branch, simply open your Steam Library, right-click Dungeon Defenders: Awakened, select Properties, navigate to the Betas tab, and under Beta Participation you should see recruit. Selecting this option will swap your game to the PTR build.[/p][p]The PTR is where major updates will be pushed first so players can try content early, experiment with changes, and help us make improvements before patches go live. You are welcome to use this branch to test features, builds, towers, or anything you want to explore outside of the live environment.[/p][p]Your feedback is incredibly valuable to us. Please continue sharing your thoughts, ideas, and bug reports as we work toward expanding the tools and channels for community feedback.[/p][p]Thank you for supporting the game and helping shape its future.[/p][p]The Community Development Team[/p]
