Development News: Now You See Me, Now You Don’t!

Hi everyone,
This week we worked on two traditional fantasy spells most wanted by our community: Fireball and Teleport. We previously had Explosive Arrow Talent Stone which works like Fireball but it required an arrow and a target enemy. Its damage scaled with dexterity and intelligence. And a good bow of course helped.

Fireball Talent Stone is different because it is more powerful and scales only with intelligence. Also it can be cast on any tile as long as there is line of sight. So pure intelligent based characters will benefit from this the most.

The other Talent Stone is Teleport. This one is quite valuable because it doesn’t require line of sight to the target tile hero wants to teleport to. Hero can go to another room even if there is a wall in between, as long as it is within 5 tiles distance. It can change the course of events dramatically especially if you are low on health and surrounded.

That’s all for this week, thanks for reading. May the tides bring you triumph!

Spiked Traps & Spider Webs

Hi everyone,
This week we worked on two new tile types to enrich the battlemaps and dungeons. One of them is Spiked Trap. This trap is initially not activated and seems like holes on the ground. When someone steps on it, spikes come out of holes and damage whoever stepped. It gives bleed damage too.

Enemies who step on it panic and try to move away from the trap. Then the big spikes stay visible and enemies will not step on the trap again. But our hero can. This brings interesting tactical choices. Should I step on spikes and take a little damage to secure an escape or is it better to avoid the trap?

The other tile type is Spider Web. These come up whenever there is a spider as an enemy. Who ever steps on a Spider Web will slow down for 3-7 turns except spiders.

If our hero is in bat form or levitating, he can avoid these tiles. Also flying enemies are not affected. The other thing is that our hero can push the enemies to these tiles and activate them. These will add new fun tactics to the game.

That’s all for this week. Thanks for reading.

New Update Arrives! Arctic Barrels and Other Curiosities

Hi everyone,
We are ready with a new update. We introduced three kinds of barrels that can explode and two overworld incidents where you can see plenty of them. These barrels explode when hit and damage adjacent squares granting interesting and fun tactical advantages to the hero. But enemies with ranged attacks can also hit these barrels. Also they explode each other causing a chain reaction.

See below the details of the update:

Update notes for 0.69.43

ADDITIONS
  • Explosive Barrels: Burn the adjacent enemies when hit.
  • Arctic Barrels: Freeze the adjacent enemies when hit.
  • Poison Barrels: Poison the adjacent enemies when hit.
  • Thug Leader's Hidden Stash: An overworld incident where hero can investigate a suspicous activity leading him to a cave battlemap with explosive barrels and bandits.
  • A Cave Entrance with ancient symbols: An overworld incident where hero can investigate an ancient cave full of poison barrels and cultists.
CHANGES
  • Arctic Barrels appear at Lost Mausoleum.
  • All barrels can appear at all dungeons.
FIXES
  • Fixed a bug where speechcraft skill doesn't lower the ship price.
  • Fixed a bug where meditation skill stamina reduction doesn't show on the talent stone cards.
  • Fixed a bug where there was no hero title for the fame points between 70 and 80.
  • Enabled screen info when using toxic arrow.

Thug Leader’s Secret Stash

Hi everyone,
This week, we worked on a new overworld incident to utilize the explosive barrels. When travelling at the overworld, our hero notices a suspicious man carrying supplies to a cave entrance. This is actually a hidden loot stash of a thug leader. Hero can choose to investigate the cave. There is a wooden chest and at least one copper chest inside, along with the bandits. There are also lots of explosive barrels to make the fight all the more interesting.

We also worked on the arctic barrels. As mentioned last week, they freeze the adjacent squares when exploded. We put those to the lost mausoleum incident at the overworld. They seem to fit there thematically along with the cold hearted phantoms and skeletons.

We also tested the barrels in the dungeons to make sure they don’t come up too many or too few. Now it's time to work on poison barrels to bring some less than chivalrous tactics to the table. Thanks for reading.

Development News: Explosive Barrels

Hi everyone,
This week we worked on a fun new addition for the next update, Explosive Barrels!

These barrels can be found mostly in dungeons. They will also be in the castle ruins and lost mausoleum at the overworld. When the hero shoots them, they explode and give damage to the enemies adjacent to it. Enemies may catch up fire and burn for several turns. Hero can also attack them with melee weapons but then he will get fire damage too.

Explosive barrels can also explode each other. So they must be handled carefully taking this chain reaction effect into consideration.

We will be adding different kinds of barrels too. One of them is Poison Barrel, which poisons adjacent squares when shot at. Another one we think to add is Arctic Barrel. This will freeze all around itself when the hero shoots it. Last but not least, we are considering Barrel of Nails which bleeds adjacent enemies -if they can bleed, that is.

They will bring interesting and fun tactical choices to the game. That’s all for this week. Thanks for reading.
