Gatewalkers weaponry #3 - Spellsword
Hi Gatewalkers,
today we will introduce one of Gatewalker’s weaponry classics, the spellsword! The spellsword was already available in the beta tests, but we have tweaked some of its elemental and higher tier (T4+) versions. So even if some of you already wielded a spellsword, some of its mechanics have changed since then.

Spellswords, despite their appearance, are not cutting weapons. The core of the weapon is made using the technology of the Ancients. Gatewalkers interested in dealing medium-range, area attacks will find this weapon particularly interesting. Due to its shorter range, spellsword users have to stay closer to their targets than other magic weapon wielders. This inherent weakness is offset by a larger area of attack of its skills.

Sonic Wave: This simple attack is a wave of energy within a close-/medium-range. It hits every target in the area. Every once in a while, the spellsword charges itself. When it is charged, the next Sonic Wave will deal significantly more damage. Charged Sonic Waves will also have a larger area of attack when used with endgame spellswords.

Pillar: The caster gathers energy in a selected spot, and after a short delay, every target in the area will be struck by a pillar of raw power. This power will charge the next Sonic Wave if the caster chooses to be in the striking area of this skill. This secondary skill attack effect changes significantly with different elemental enchantments.

The key to maximizing damage with a spell sword is charging Sonic Waves often. To achieve this goal, one must consistently hit both oneself and the enemies with pillar spells.

Spell Surge: A massive high-damage vortex of energy forms around the caster. The vortex deals bursts of damage to all targets for a short period. This spell’s secondary effects are affected by the weapon’s element the same way as the pillar spell.

Elemental modifications: The pillar’s and spell surge’s skills secondary effects change depending on the element ingrained into the core of the spellsword.
Those effects are:
Also, remember, this is a one-handed weapon, so you can use it in combination with all shields and off-hand weapons like pistols or torches.
We hope you will like the weapon and try it out! Please let us know your thoughts in the comments!

- Heat: More damage to enemies and damage buff for friendly targets.
- Shock: Interrupts and dazes enemies. Faster movement for caster and his allies.
- Cold: Slows down and stuns enemies.

- Toxic: Toxic poison that deals damage to enemies over a period of time.
