SANDBOX IS HERE!

[p]Update 10/12: Sandbox is available now*! Players on Steam who were unable to purchase on Steam should now be able to gain access after restarting the app.[/p][p]
Thanks to everyone who has reported other bugs with 3.21 and sorry for the rocky launch! We're working hard on bug fixes and will have another hotfix incoming soon.[/p][p]
* Please note Sandbox is available with a launch discount of 33% off while only the Map Editor is available. When the Scenario Builder is added in 2026 the price will go up accordingly, so get in quick!
[/p][p][/p][p]Ever wanted to fine-tune the territory bonuses and deployment numbers on Classic to give it your own spin? Place blizzards across Europe Advanced to craft perfect battle lines? Add symmetrical portals to Trigon’s? Well, now you can![/p][p][/p][p]We’ve been working on a brand-new way to play RISK: a suite of tools to empower players to remix and reconfigure their RISK maps to play and share online. We call it Sandbox, and it’s beginning to roll out today. [/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]Note: The screenshots below and throughout this article include UI elements from our upcoming UI refresh, which will land after Sandbox early next year. That means they may look slightly different in the current UI. All functionality is the same however.[/p][p][/p]
What’s launching with Sandbox?
[p][/p]

[p]Sandbox users will have access to a powerful new tool for making and sharing original creations. It can be accessed via the following two tabs:[/p]
  • [p]Sandbox Tools: Map Editor
Remix any map you own into a custom Sandbox map. Creations can be published, shared, and hosted online.[/p]
  • [p]Sandbox Maps
Save and access your collection of custom sandbox maps, host Sandbox games that are available to join for all players — whether or not they are subscribed.[/p]
[p][/p]
Who is Sandbox Mode for?
[p][/p][p]We’ve designed Sandbox for any players who want to play a map but have an idea to make it their own:
[/p][p][/p]
How do I gain access to Sandbox?
[p][/p][p]Sandbox is a subscription product. For a small annual fee, you can bring any map you have purchased or unlocked into the Sandbox Map Editor.[/p][p][/p][p]From there, you can customize the map to your liking, adjusting things like Portal placement, Continent bonuses, Territory Card & Starting Troop rules, and much more [/p][p][/p][p]After you’re finished customizing and playtesting your map, you may then publish it to share with the wider RISK community. All other players — including those not subscribed — can join your hosted Sandbox map games, and other Sandbox creators can save your Sandbox maps to play later, share it, or even duplicate and remix it again themselves.
[/p][p][/p][p][/p]
What can I edit in the Sandbox Map Editor?
[p]The editor launches with a deep set of tools, with even more planned for 2026.[/p]

    3. [p]Portals (quantity & exact placement)[/p]

    2. [p]Define how many bonus troops are given for owned territories[/p]
    3. [p]Define how many Wild Cards are shuffled into the deck[/p]

[p]If you’d like to learn more about the tools in practice, check out our introduction to Sandbox video below:[/p][p][/p][previewyoutube][/previewyoutube][p][/p]
Coming in 2026: Scenario Builder
[p][/p][p]Sandbox will keep expanding. Our first planned update in 2026: Scenario Builder will be a tool for creating single-player custom scenarios you can save, play, and submit for review. The best scenarios may even be featured in-app for all players to enjoy your handiwork.
[/p][p]There will be plenty more coming to RISK in the meantime - a UI update, more maps, bug fixes, and of course, RISK Battle Cards, all coming early in 2026 as well.
