RISK 3.2 SCI-FI Update

To celebrate this update we also want to share the out-of-this-world artwork created by Dan Dussault for our Sci-fi map pack. Check out his work, give him a follow.

This update features our Sci-fi Maps, our first visual theme update since Pirates about 4 yaaaaars ago (sorry, bad dad joke). With a new holographic look, glowing connection lines, glitchy fog of war effects, and new fortify/attack arrows, this new update is anything but a waste of space.

SCI-FI MAP PACK!

The future will be fought with dice controlled by robots on distant planets. This pack also includes exclusive new map visuals.
[REDACTED]
Continent: 11
Territories: 47

This battle is taking place on a classified planetoid that Earth doesn't even know exists yet. Win and keep it that way!
SPACEPORT SIGMA
Continent: 10
Territories: 96

In space no one can hear you scream... Because you rolled a one.
LUNAR MINING FACILITY
Continents: 10
Territories: 47

As Earth battles for control over the Helium-3 supplies the once peaceful mining facilities are turning into battlefields.
COMMAND BASE C1X
Continent: 11
Territories: 100

We cannot tell you how bad it will be for Earth if this command base falls into enemy hands... Does the enemy even have ‘hands’?

ADVANCED MAP PACK!

Available mid August as long as you have the v3.2 installed. This pack includes the most community-requested larger versions of our maps. Perfect those who prefer a longer game and deeper strategy.
Check out the spectacular artwork for the map pack designed by Harry Heath.
BRAZIL ADVANCED
Continent: 8
Territories: 56

Brazil and neighbors are used to battling about football but now you can settle it once and for all in this RISK map.
CANADA ADVANCED
Continent: 13
Territories: 91

Advanced enough, eh?
EUROPE ADVANCED
Continent: 14
Territories: 83

The most requested advanced map now let’s you take over Europe and surrounding areas in more detail.
RUSSIA 2010 ADVANCED
Continent: 7
Territories: 61

In Russia, dice roll you!

NEW COLLECTABLES!

We’ve pretty much got every theme covered in v3.3: ancient, medieval, futuristic--even edible! We’ll also be rolling out (strike #2 dad joke) country flag dice to show your pride over the next few weeks. Feel free to sing your national anthem as you play. We don't have voice chat so it won’t annoy anyone.

COMMUNITY REQUESTS!
UI
We’re always striving to improve the core RISK experience. In v3.2 we focused on community feedback on the attack and fortify arrows, making them more legible and improving the animation.

Old (left), new (right)
TIMEOUT
We’ve also added a timeout limit to players who dropout from online matches to counter cheating and overall fairness.

FEMALE CHARACTERS

We’ve received a lot of feedback for more female characters so we’re adding more troops and avatars:

Avatar: General Uni Bio: An eminent Intergalactic General, Uni is known for their keen sight and exceptional piloting skills.

Avatar: Tomoe Gozen Bio: Inspired by the infamous samurai warrior of the same name. Thousands feared her, many more followed her into battle.

Troop: Onna-musha Bio: Two blades are better than one.
And here’s a sneak peek of another female avatar we’re working on for v3.3

GENERAL FIXES & IMPROVEMENTS
Major Fix
All players can now see who goes offline in Global Domination matches.
There was a bug where only the game host would correctly see who was offline. The bug gave the false appearance (to the other players) that anyone who was offline was repeatedly dropping out and rejoining in an unfair manner.

+ Multiple minor fixes and improvements.
MAP CHANGE LOG
Pangea
Added missing connection between UK and Italy

Italy
Western and Eastern Austria name overlap fix.

Mont Saint-Michel
Added a hyphen to the continent “Mont Saint-Michel”

Machu Picchu
Improve connection visibility between “City Gate” and “Wheat”

Atlantis
Improved visual connections for bridges
MORE TO COME
Don’t forget the official community run Discord is also the place to chat with all the other RISK fans like you, well maybe not exactly like you as you’re special.

Phew! What an update! This is a significant change which allows us more flexibility and scope to enhance the game.

Let us know in the comments what you think of this update and if you have any dice ideas post away. We’re in production on a lot of new ones now.

Risk Community Bulletin #3

ATTENTION GENERALS!

Sit down, shuttle up, and ready that scroll wheel - you’re in for a jam-packed bulletin! Next month we’ll be seeing the arrival of our 3.2 update which includes new maps, dice, troops, avatars, and bug fixes.

So prepare yourselves as this update as we go behind the scenes and out of this world.

UI DESIGN

It’s been long overdue, but for the first time in four years we are introducing a new theme to RISK Global Domination.

Our new Sci-fi theme brings visual updates to Fog of War, territory connection lines, holographic background, and new attack/fortify arrows.

MAPS

Look to the stars and take your global conquest to the galaxy with 4 new maps!
Without spoiling too much, here are a few sneak peeks on how our new Space Port Sigma map came to life.

DICE
Good news everyone! We’ve figured out a way to roll dice in zero-gravity.
See how we go from concept:

To first modeling pass:

To final design:

AVATARS
New theme who dis? Not one, not two, but FOUR SCI-FI AVATARS will feature in our new update 3.2. We also have a new samurai avatar paying homage to the legendary Tomoe Gozen a onna-musha who appeared in 14th century Japanese literature. Tomoe was undoubtedly a force to be reckoned with as she was appointed as leading commander in the Genpei War.

“she was a warrior worth a thousand, ready to confront a demon or a god, mounted or on foot. “
-The Tale of the Heike

FRAMES

In this update, we have 7 new frames coming to the RISK shop and a little special somethin for our premium players soon after. So here’s a little preview of what’s to come.

X Æ B-52

This frame is made from a metal that hasn’t even been discovered yet.

Steampunk
Assembled from the parts of a time machine, racing car and soft-serve machine.

Samurai X
The wearer of this frame will be installed with the wisdom of the Samurai.

TROOPS
Generals meet the creation of one of your new GUARDIAN OF THE *REDACTED*

The Concept:

Final result:

At the end of July we saw the close of our Discord 1v1 tournament.
Special shout-out to our placing winners
1st place: Tank

2nd Place: Parlox

3rd Place: Spike
1. Zombies are weak, they lose on a tie when you attack them, and they only have two dice to attack with (attacking a zombies territory is safer than attacking a humans).
 2. Don’t focus entirely on zombies as you will leave yourself exposed to the other human opponents.
 3. Zombies will take over a random territory if they are eliminated in the previous round
 4. You need to spread out troops to minimise the damage that zombie takeover does.
 5. In ranked games, note that humans are still the real enemy, eliminating them is more important than eliminating zombies - if you lose to zombies but eliminate all humans you will not be penalised for being 2nd to them

Risk Community Bulletin #2

ATTENTION GENERALS!

Welcome to the second issue of the RISK community bulletin. Last month we saw the massive 3.1 update go live with new dice, frames, emotes, and most importantly the new shop!
Here are a few of the new shop favourites according to you;

Since the new update, the most sought-after Dice (so far) has been the Red Digital Clock Dice!

The most frequently spammed emote is the Mika Raspberry!

Amongst the 10 new frames, Montu’s frame has come out on top!

We hope you’re enjoying the 3.1 update so far! How many of you have managed to conquer Troy yet?
Since the update, we have pushed a couple of hotfixes to fix any issues that came with the update.
Such as;

 • Shop not working on iOS
 • Lost Cities Maps don’t show map pack name
 • Blank chat during emote animation
 • Daily deals repeating and not refreshing
 • Various UI things

That’s 3.1 out of the way, let’s talk 3.2. We can’t get into the fun things like Dice and Frames just yet. HOWEVER what we can tell you is that the next update in addition to new features, we’ll be focusing on existing bugs that got put on the backburner whilst we worked on the shop.

In next month's community issue we’ll be back with a teaser of the new shiny things.

We collaborated with Tribe Gaming to present their and our community with the free limited edition Tribe Dice that was available June 2-9, were you lucky enough to grab yours?

The Big 3.1 Update is Here!

To celebrate this update we also want to share this amazing artwork of Atlantis we commissioned from Dean Ilango to celebrate the Lost Cities map pack. Check out his work, give him a follow.

In the biggest change since launch we’ve released a new shop, cosmetics and currency system. It will allow us new ways to reward players but also give you many more options to customize your profile. We can also now be more flexible with the pricing of items as no longer tied to the store prices and the strict sale requirements. For Steam users this means more regular sales on everything in the store.

LOST CITIES MAP PACK!

Sunken islands, lost cities, empires buried under the sands of time - some found again, others turned into legends. Conquer them all!
Atlantis
Continent: 8
Territories: 57

When you play this map be sure to put on this track which is the official theme song of Atlantis.
Troy
Continents: 13
Territories: 67

Oh, look! A wooden horse! What a LOVELY gift. Quickly, get it into the city! What could possibly go wrong?
Machu Picchu
Continents: 8
Territories: 38

Now you can conquer Machu Picchu, the legendary sacred site which has been triggering awe and humbling astonishment in millions of visitors!
Nan Madol!
Continents: 7
Territories: 42

You don’t need a whip and leather hat to feel like a famous archeologist here. But you need a good strategy to prevail...

NEW DICE

Cheese dice. Check.
Buried dinosaur bones dice. Check.
20th-century-modernist-abstract-art-inspired dice. Check.

This is just the start! More dice on the way and if you have any ideas comment below.

Note: we wanted to make the cheese dice “legen-dairy” but the pun police would have arrested us.

NEW EMOTES

Is your nemesis zzz at their keyboard?
Ever wanted to pirate fist bump an ally?

We’ll we’ve got you covered with our latest batch of emotes. And now available individually at a lower price!

NEW SHOP

All new UI, daily deals, free gems and looooads of new content to customise your play. Let us know what you think and what dice, frames and emotes you’d like to see next.

RISK GEMS

A new currency system means we can not only offer better sales and more flexibility on store discounts, but we can also make the game more rewarding. We’re starting with daily gem giveaways in v3.1+, but plan to create more play-based rewards in future updates.

PLAYER COLOURS

You spoke, we listened. We’ re reverting back to the classic RISK colours
with the exception of the Amazon Prime exclusive purple.

 • Red, Green, Yellow, Blue, Orange have all revert back to the original ‘Classic’ colours
 • Purple will become available after June.
 • Bubblegum Pink added in v2.8 will be retained
 • Charcoal (Black) and Porcelain (White) added in v2.8 will be kept as the exclusive Premium colours

All other new colours have been removed. To update your colours, please go to your profile customisation screen. And big thanks to everyone in the RISK community for your feedback.

AVATARS + UI

There was overwhelming demand to bring back the old way of tinting avatars based on player color (versus persistent colors). We’ve added that to v3.1 along with other improvements to the chat UI to make player colors more legible:

 • Avatars now cropped inside the frame in the chat UI
 • Death State more clear.
 • Tweaks to icons to make larger & legible.
 • More prominent colour panel around avatar frames.

MAP CHANGE LOG
Arkeanos Map
Above: After

 • Added connection between "Left Wall, Black Island and Entry"
 • “Lady of the Lake” and “Market” connection made bigger
