3.19: HOW TO USE BLOCK LISTS

[p]In 3.19, we introduced several new tools and features to reduce unfair play and improve the overall quality of your RISK games. [/p][p][/p][p]The highly requested blocklist is now available to all players. [/p][p][/p][p]We’ve heard stories of players using their friends list as a defacto block list. Now all players can block users from both the pregame lobby to the postgame.
[/p]
Navigating Block lists
[p]Home screen, press friends panel icon at the top right (where arrow points) [/p][p]Within the Friends panel, tap on any player's avatar to add, remove and manage players between your Friends and Blocked lists. All players currently on your blocked list are displayed within the “Blocked” tab. Your block list may already be populated, these are people you have reported in the past. This means if you report someone, that player will be automatically added to your block list.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]Block lists (like Friends lists) will currently block up to 500 players - when you add more after this they will replace your oldest blocked accounts. We’re exploring solutions to increase this number which would likely land in 3.20. [/p][p]
[/p]
Block players from the pre-game lobby.
[p]Additionally, more options have been added to the pregame screen by tapping on a player's avatar. Doing so reveals a mini-menu with options to View Profile (Non-Ranked games only), Report, Block, or Mute the chat of the chosen player. [/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p]
Block players from the post-game screen.
[p]You can now block players directly from the post-game screen. On the “Add New RISK Friends” screen, select the red block icon under the player you want to block. Then, confirm by selecting the green tick. You can still send friend requests from this screen too.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p]
Blocked players are banned from your pregame lobbies
[p]Blocked players cannot enter your hosted lobbies and will be flagged regardless of whether they are hidden behind a persona if they join a non-hosted lobby you are also in.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [/p][p]If you have any more questions on how to use block lists, feel free to reach out to us by submitting a support ticket or reaching out to us on social media:[/p][p]Over and out,[/p][p]– SMG: Team RISK[/p][p]

BOT OUT TIMER UPDATE, PT.2

[p][/p][p]A few weeks ago, we posted an update to our bot out timers. One of those changes involved closing loopholes that made it too easy for players to bypass the bot out timer and sneak into the end game. [/p][p][/p]
How the Bot Out Timer Works:
• [p]Mobile: The timer starts automatically only when a player backgrounds or closes the app during a match.
    [/p]
  • [p]PC: Minimizing the game or switching windows does not trigger the bot out timer. Inactivity is only tracked during your turn.
    [/p]
  • [p]If the player is on PC, or the player is running the mobile app in the foreground, they will always receive a warning before AI takeover, and there is a generous window to return before being fully botted out.[/p][p][/p]
[p][/p][p]What’s Changing:[/p][p][/p][p]To improve flexibility, we’re increasing the bot out timer from 180 seconds to 600 seconds (10 minutes). This gives players more time to return before triggering a bot out.[/p][p][/p][p]We’re continuing to fine-tune this system based on your feedback, so please keep it coming.[/p][p][/p][p]Thanks to everyone who’s taken the time to share their thoughts.[/p][p][/p][p]Over and out,[/p][p]– SMG: Team RISK[/p][p]

RISK: BOT OUT TIMER UPDATE

[p]Edit: We've been mulling this over and have decided to change the bot out timers back to 600 seconds for the time being. There's still more we want to do to the bot out system to make it fair and unexploitable, and we're going to keep working on it for now. Thanks to everyone who has chimed in here, or on discord. Read the new update here.[/p][p][/p][p]In 3.18 releases (including hotfixes) we made some adjustments to the overall timings of players being forced out of games.
[/p][p]Prior to our recent release, we’ve received reports of players exploiting the botting out logic. Players had been found to enter a lobby and ready up before minimizing the app, letting an AI take over and the game play out, before resuming at a later time to determine if the game was worth continuing or not. This created a bad user experience for all other players involved.
[/p][p]With the most recent release, we have ensured that regardless of whether a player leaves the app foregrounded or backgrounded that they will be kicked from the game if they exceed the new time limit.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------[/p]
Changes
[p]The newly adjusted timings for the game are set up as such that after 50 seconds of inactivity on their turn a player will receive a pop down warning, after 60 seconds of inactivity on their turn an AI takeover will occur. If a player remains inactive and crosses the new threshold of three minutes they will be removed from the game permanently, the way this three minute timer is calculated varies depending on the bot out style.
[/p][p][/p]
Foreground
[p]If players bot out and keep the app foregrounded their inactive timer dictates their ability to re-join the game or not. A player's inactivity timer increments on their turn from the last moment of activity and continues to increment on their turn while their AI replacement plays. If the inactivity timer exceeds the time limit then they are automatically kicked out of the game and sent back to the home screen. [/p][p][/p]
Background
[p]If players minimize the app, sending it to the background, then a countdown timer is started on our servers. This timer is counted in real time and begins decrementing after the host has acknowledged the disconnected player and notified the server, in this instance there may be some leeway in the three minute deadline. If they exceed the time limit then they are unable to re-join the game when they re-focus the app, instead they are redirected back to the home screen.[/p][p]
