Nexus News - Ember Cat and a Surprise Collaboration!

Greetings, Knights!


Welcome back for another edition of the Nexus News! We have some exciting things to talk about so without further ado, let's dive right in!

As you know, our original plans involved taking a break with updates after 1.5 as we push to the finish line for Ember Knights 2.0 - Wrath of the Architect. However, we've had a few things come up that were too compelling to ignore, so we're going to be releasing an interim 1.5.2 update on September 5th - more on that later!

[h2]INTRODUCING HYDRA![/h2]
We're getting closer and closer to the release of Ember Knights 2.0, so we wanted to take this opportunity to show you a little more about one of the powerful new skills that will be available in Wrath of the Architect.

The Hydra is a versatile skill that's effective at both short and long distances. Upgrades for the Hydra will increase its versatility as well as its power.

Is that enemy too far away to punch? Fear not, summon a Hydra!

Are Shroombanes getting a little too close for comfort? It's a good thing Hydra has Fire Breath!

But wait, what if an enemy is too quick for the projectile? Fear not dear player, the Hydra will adjust its attacks so no Mini Shroombane gets left behind.

[h2]THE EMBER DOG![/h2]
In addition to the Hydra, you may have heard that Wrath of the Architect will include the adorable Ember Dog! And it's official, you will be able to pet the Ember Dog!



But wait, there's more!

[h2]THE EMBER CAT![/h2]
We've heard from quite a few of you requesting an equally adorable Ember Cat. As you can imagine, development is extremely tight with so much content coming in Wrath of the Architect, but we didn't want to write off the possibility quite yet.

So....we're doing this: to show us how popular of a suggestion the Ember Cat is, we've created a Global Community Challenge for you to make your voices heard!

If the community can come together to show us that enough people want the Ember Cat, we'll squeeze it in!



[h2]GLOBAL COMMUNITY CHALLENGE![/h2]
From September 5th until September 19th, collect points by killing enemies and bosses. The more you kill, the more points you earn! There's also a cute little kitten hiding in the worlds. Find the hidden kitty and collect even more points!
If the community can collect enough points, we will design and implement the Ember Cat and include it as part of the free Ember Knights 2.0 update!

On September 5th, update 1.5.2 will go live and all the information about the Global Community Challenge will be included!

[h2]SECRET COLLABORATION - ASTRAL ASCENT[/h2]
We've also been talking to our friends over at Hibernian Workshop. It turns out, they're huge fans of Ember Knights! If you're not familiar with them, they made the hit Astral Ascent!

Needless to say, we're also big fans of Astral Ascent and after one of our Discord members, Pac planted the seed about a possible collaboration, we had to look into it!
Hibernian has been wonderful to work with and we think we've each come up with something special for you!

We don't want to fully spoil the surprise but we'll leave you with a little teaser!

Hotfix Update v1.5.1

Hello, Knights!

We've heard your feedback, so we've decided to put out a small update to address some of your concerns. While we didn't roll back every change, we hit the ones that we feel are the most problematic.

Please see below for everything that's included in this hotfix patch.

Note: items marked with 🔥 are a result of player feedback.



[h3]Balancing & Minor Adjustments[/h3]
  • Updated Ultimate Skill Upgrades to equip automatically when any 2 upgrades for a skill have been equipped. (Reverted to previous implementation) 🔥
  • Updated to allow skill upgrading in Scoggfirth. All Skill Selectors will include upgrades. (Reverted to previous implementation) 🔥
  • Warrior Wisps Upgrade III - Doubled the healing. (Reverted to previous implementation) 🔥
  • Ballista Upgrade III - Doubled the healing and removed the healing cap and cooldown. (Reverted to previous implementation) 🔥
  • Seek and Destroy Upgrade II - Doubled the healing. (Reverted to previous implementation) 🔥
  • Added the chance for the Golden Steward to drop additional items with his gold 🔥
  • Removed the gold cap for additional loops when endless looping 🔥
  • Updated the boss rewards to include Ash when defeating a boss 🔥
  • Reduced the cost of the Refinement Shop 🔥
  • Updated the Rainbow Player Skin to not cycle through the colors in sync with a teammate 🔥

[h3]Fixes[/h3]
  • Fixed a bug with saving & quitting with Quasar Orb and Nexal Staff's Arcane Mastery where the upgrades will be lost when resuming 🔥
  • Fixed a bug with saving & quitting with Cloak and Dagger and Reaper Toll's Hidden Blade where the upgrades will be lost when resuming
  • Fixed a bug with disconnecting where Marvin's unlock sequence is triggered again 🔥
  • Fixed a bug with the Rainbow player color where the icons weren't being used when saving as a preset color 🔥
  • Fixed a visual bug where button prompts can remain visible after exiting the inventory when viewing upgrades for a skill 🔥

Ok, now on to the details for Update 1.5 - For The Players! Reminder, this is our last update before Ember Knights 2.0 - Wrath of the Architect!







It's hard to believe that it's already been a year since we launched Ember Knights 1.0! Despite the Stewards working tirelessly to maintain the Nexus, they've also been noticing all the heroic work you've been putting in and they took the time to give you a little gift!

When you fire up 1.5, you'll see a couple Stewards ready to present you with their little token of appreciation!

  • Updated a bunch of achievements and challenges in multiplayer games so clients also get credit for unlocking the achievement
    • Weapons Training - Unlock your first new weapon
    • Record Keeper - Unlock the Compendium
    • A Fire Ignited - Restore Ember to the Ember Tree

We reworked the Ember Tree UI to look more like the Ember Shrine and function like the weapon modding UI. We also added your current upgrades to the Ember Tree tooltip, so you no longer need to open the UI just to see what upgrades you have equipped.

[h3]Golden Steward[/h3]
As a fun little bonus, you can now encounter Goldie throughout a run. Defeat this glittery little loot Steward and he'll be sure to reward you with his stash of gold!

[h3]Special Anniversary Steward Gift & New Player Color 🔥[/h3]
It's been about a year since we released 1.0 and the Stewards have been paying attention to all your hard work over this past year. They've worked really hard on a neat little present for you and it can be found on your first visit back to the Nexus!

Before we talk about the balancing changes, we'd like to extend a heartfelt thanks for everyone that tested these changes on the experimental beta branch and provided their thoughts. The feedback was incredibly valuable! ❤️

[h3]Skills 🔥[/h3]
  • Updated ultimate upgrades to no longer automatically equip after 2 upgrades are equipped
    • Being reverted in Hotfix 1.5.1
  • Removed upgrade options from the skill selectors in Scoggfirth
    • Being reverted in Hotfix 1.5.1
  • Updated a bunch of individual upgrades:
    • Blast Bomb Upgrade III - Reduced damage on the 3 bombs by 50%
    • Knight's Charge Ultimate Upgrade - Requires hitting unique enemies to refresh
    • Warrior Wisps Upgrade III - Reduced healing by 50%
      • Being reverted in Hotfix 1.5.1
    • Hailstone Armor Upgrade III - Invulnerability clears after 4s or when you attack or cast another skill
    • Ballista Upgrade II - Reduced damage on the 3 arrows by 33%
    • Ballista Upgrade III - Reduced healing from 2 to 1 with a maximum of 15 HP per Ballista. Added a 5s cooldown
      • Being reverted in Hotfix 1.5.1
    • Judgment Upgrade I - Reduced damage on the additional set of lightning bolts by 50%
    • Seek and Destroy Upgrade II - Reduced healing by 50%
      • Being reverted in Hotfix 1.5.1
    • Cloak and Dagger Upgrade I - Reduced damage on the 3 daggers by 33%
    • Arlan's Lucky Dice Upgrade I - Set a limit of 1 food item and 1 stat gem per room
    • Arlan's Lucky Dice Upgrade II - Set a limit of 2 Wisps and 1 Ballista. Additional rolls will replace the current Wisp or Ballista
    • Arlan's Lucky Dice Ultimate Upgrade - Updated to require a perfect cast. Second dice deals 75% damage
    • Soul Siphon Upgrade II - Reduced damage on additional lasers by 50%
    • Gravity Well Upgrade I - Reduced the range of the laser. Updated the distance to be controlled by the charge time

[h3]Relics[/h3]
  • Updated the following relics:
    • Spell in a Bottle
      • Removed the ability for the projectiles from this relic to refresh skills
      • Reduced projectile damage from 25 to 15
    • Magic Tome
      • Reduced AOE damage from 25 to 20
    • Pristine Band
      • Reduced base health gain from 5 to 3
      • Reduced max owned from 5 to 4

[h3]General[/h3]
  • Suppression Obelisk changed from lifetime to hit counter
  • Added a skill selector or relic refinement to empty secret rooms 🔥
  • Added number of loops and chain of perfect rooms to the summary screen 🔥

Last but not least, we fixed a few pesky bugs.
  • Fixed a bug where killing enemies wasn’t updating the relic orb enemy kill counter on the save slot 🔥
  • Fixed a bug where enemies could become pulled before finishing their spawn animation 🔥
  • Fixed a bug with Praxis where he could occasionally teleport out of the room 🔥
  • Fixed a bug with Shared Fate and Praxis buffed enemies where players would take more damage than they should 🔥
  • Fixed a bug with Effigeist where his HP would increase after being frozen
  • Fixed a bug with Hypercharger where his attack indicators could become displaced
  • Fixed a bug with Hailstone Armor’s Ultimate Upgrade where the ice ring could permanently freeze elite and champion enemies 🔥
  • Fixed a bug with Judgment’s Ultimate Upgrade where Praxis could take damage when he’s no longer visible in the room 🔥
  • Fixed a few issues with cursed relics and their cleansed versions where they weren’t being tracked consistently in the Compendium 🔥
  • Fixed some minor visual issues with the Knight when equipped with the Rift Hammer
  • Fixed a bug where skipping a selection in a selector could cause the game timer to resume ticking 🔥
  • Fixed a few multiplayer bugs related to the intro sequences for Praxis
  • Fixed a multiplayer bug where clients would only take 1 damage from Defense Bot’s projectile attack 🔥
  • Fixed a multiplayer bug where clients could identify Soul Siphon and Gravity Well again if the host hasn’t unlocked them yet 🔥
  • Fixed a multiplayer bug where some clients could not see the destroyed Volt buff
  • Fixed a bug where the button mapping for skill upgrade details wasn’t appearing (Switch only) 🔥

Hotfix Update v1.4.1

Hello, Knights!

How are you liking the Skills Mastery Update?
We've seen the videos and screenshots of some of the busted upgrade combinations (*cough* Dice *cough*) so rest assured, we'll be looking to make some balancing changes in 1.5. Until then, we hope you have fun with them!

Now, no update is complete without a few annoying bugs, so we decided to put out a patch to address them!
Please see below for everything that's included in this hotfix patch.

[h3]Balancing & Minor Adjustments[/h3]
  • Reduced the cost in half for unlocking skill upgrades
  • Decreased the attack speed on the Praxis hands attack 🔥
  • Decreased the attack speed and reduced the number of lasers on the Praxis lasers attack 🔥

[h3]Fixes[/h3]
  • Fixed an issue where the player could become softlocked when killing a miniboss with Soul Siphon and having its third upgrade equipped 🔥
  • Fixed a few issues related to bosses and relics, mods, or upgrades that spawn projectiles when refreshing a skill where the boss could take damage during its intro potentially causing a softlock 🔥
  • Fixed a multiplayer issue where a softlock could occur when one player has Brittle Scepter and another freezes an enemy with a perfect Frost Wall 🔥
  • Fixed a multiplayer issue where a softlock could occur if the host defeats a miniboss with Rupture’s Ultimate upgrade 🔥
  • Fixed a bug with Warrior Wisps and its third upgrade where players could become excessively healed 🔥
  • Fixed a bug where the ice rings from Frost Wall and Hailstone Armor wouldn’t damage or freeze Rakkling Nests
  • Fixed a bug with Gravity Well and its first upgrade where it would spawn a projectile
  • Fixed a bug that was allowing locked skill slots to be upgraded
  • Fixed a bug with the Oooh Shiny! achievement where it was unlocking without unlocking all the mods for a weapon 🔥
  • Fixed a bug that was preventing Invigorate from granting 20% attack speed
  • Fixed a bug with Razor Wind’s Empowered mod where it was applying 6 stacks instead of 5
  • Fixed a bug that was preventing Cloak and Dagger’s Ultimate upgrade from applying the proper amount of damage on crits
  • Fixed a bug with Void Mantle’s Laser Focus mod where it could cast dark spells multiple times 🔥
  • Fixed a bug with the exit door in the Credits minigame
  • Fixed some visual issues with various player auras where the visual effects would continue after the player dies
  • Fixed a bug where additional meteors could be seen by clients in multiplayer games 🔥
  • Fixed a visual issue where the revive message was not properly displaying for defeating a miniboss or boss
  • Fixed a few font issues that would occur when switching between languages
  • Fixed a few UI issues that were happening in various languages
