v1.68b Patch Notes

Hi folks,

We have just released a stability patch for DemonCrawl to resolve a few important issues. We will update this post throughout the day if any subsequent hotfixes are deployed. Thank you!

[h2]Bug Fixes[/h2]

  • Fixed a crash related to reloading a stage that had snow-trimmed cells from the Christmas event
  • Fixed a crash related to Planned Obsolescence (the irony is not lost on us)
  • Fixed an issue with Beyond Mode losing Glint and Emblem properties on reload
  • Fixed Glint pickup animation
  • Elemental Triumvirate and Original Sin are now Lv2 Mythic Emblems as intended
  • Warlock II no longer triggers on failed magic use, e.g. with Divine Blood Magic


Hotfix #1 @ 7:17 PM EST -

  • Fixed a rare issue that could prevent Battering Ram from activating
  • Fixed another issue that could prevent bosses from spawning
  • Fixed an issue related to Blessings and projectile penetration
  • Fixed a hardlock related to Divine Shadowbind and Doughnut
  • Speculative fix for Divine Mortar crash
  • Speculative fix for rare crash related to status effect tooltip


Hotfix #2 @ 9:07 PM EST -

  • Fixed a crash related to entering an Item Shop with Red Dye

[h2]Robot Uprising II[/h2]

  • New boss: UNIT-8055 - "Copies the effects of other bosses and empowers itself with Electric cells."
  • New boss: Automaton - "Spawns with 3 boss mods and acquires more as you make mistakes."

[h2]New Features[/h2]

  • New passive item: Third Eye - "When you open half of all empty cells, unobscure any values and destroy all objects on numbered cells."
  • New consumable item: Green Dye - "You will only find consumable items until you gain a consumable item." (This and other Dye items created by raisins77 - we just changed the names)
  • New consumable item: Blue Dye - "You will only find magic items until you gain a magic item."
  • New consumable item: Yellow Dye - "You will only find legendary items until you gain a legendary item."
  • New consumable item: Gray Dye - "You will only find passive items until you gain a passive item."
  • New omen: Red Dye - "You will only find omens. Lose this item when you gain an omen."
  • New boss mod: Blooming - "When you open half of all empty cells, collect 3 Dark Hearts."
  • New boss mod: Pure - "Removes auras as it travels."
  • New boss mod: Corrupt - "Spawn 2 Dark Hearts each turn."
  • New boss mod: Roundabout - "Lose 1% pathfinding whenever you discover a 4 or greater."
  • New boss mod: Landlord - "Lose a random stat whenever you make a turn in the same quadrant as the boss."
  • New Lv3 emblem: Reality Check


[h2]Quality of Life[/h2]

  • Updated Pathfinding toast to include the Pathfinding sprite
  • Added a toast for failing a Mythic Emblem roll
  • Using a duplicate item will now consume the one you clicked on, rather than the first copy in your inventory - this is an experimental change that may require further testing
  • Updated the description of the Timeless mod for clarity


[h2]Balance Changes[/h2]

  • Added UNIT-8055 as the likely boss of a few existing emblems
  • Negative pathfinding now gives you a chance to finish the stage without marking it as complete
  • Excalibur buff: "You can kill monsters and bosses if your morality is 30 or greater. Lose this item if you are immoral."
  • Paragon Rod price increased from 80 to 100 coins
  • Blood Magic nerf: "Gain 50 mana and lose 1 life."
  • Blood Magic price reduced from 20 to 15 coins


[h2]Bug Fixes[/h2]

  • Fixed a rare issue that could cause mastery unlock conditions to go missing from the Token Shop
  • Fixed a typo in the Saga sigil
  • Fixed an issue with magic bow items not triggering certain "on magic" effects
  • Fixed likely sigil drops for Holiday emblems
  • Fixed "Chomp" Sigil not interpreting inventory slots correctly
  • Fixed a possible issue in the quest cleanup routine


Hotfix #1 @ 5:25 PM EST -

  • Fixed a crash related to Adventurer's Hat
  • Fixed a crash related to Blind Justice
  • Fixed Hearth Classic Skin unlock conditions
  • Fixed a chording issue related to an update to the autosolver

Robot Uprising II & More

Hi folks,

2021 is finally here, and we're kicking it off with several big DemonCrawl announcements! This will be a long post, so grab yourself a coffee and strap in.

We have just released DemonCrawl v1.68 - dubbed Robot Uprising II.



The machine overlords have returned in the form of TWO new bosses!

The twin pinnacles of Dark Science, UNIT-8055 and Automaton are equipped with sophisticated AI protocols that allow them to perfectly emulate their life-and-blood counterparts...

  • UNIT-8055 will echo the effects of another boss whenever it collects a Dark Heart. By supercharging itself with Electric cells, it seeks to surpass its own creators and become the ultimate lifeform.
  • Automaton is the result of a terrifying project to mass produce artificial boss mods. It possesses rapid self-learning abilities and must be dealt with before it's too late.

[h2]iOS Port[/h2]

We have been working to bring DemonCrawl to iOS for quite some time, and we're finally on the home stretch!

We are pleased to announce that DemonCrawl will launch on the App Store on February 24th, pending any delays in the approval process.

With the addition of iOS, DemonCrawl will be available on all major desktop and mobile platforms, which means we can finally turn our attention to a [certain game console] people have been asking about... ;-)

[h2]Secret Announcement...[/h2]

Last year, our main focus was the development of ports and expansions. We managed to complete 2 of each - we are really proud of that, and we couldn't have done it without your support!

Now we are shifting gears a bit. In 2021, we want to focus our efforts on additional gamemodes.

We have three ambitious gamemodes planned, one of which is already well underway. We expect it to enter beta sometime in February, around the same time as the iOS launch.

We will unveil more details about this mysterious gamemode in the coming weeks, but for now let's just say it's a real game-changer and may well surprise you.

Yesterday, we were deeply saddened to learn of the passing of MF DOOM, an incredible artist whose music and witty lyricism served as a great source of inspiration to so many - myself included. His work has had a profound impact on me both creatively and personally, and it's hard to see him go.
