JDM’s campaign and events!

Ossu!

If you’ve been following our devlogs, you know what to expect when JDM: Japanese Drift Master releases on May 21. However, there’s still one big question mark that we haven’t officially tackled and discussed in more detail - what’s the gameplay loop like? What to expect from a ‘minute-to-minute’ experience, which you will delve into on launch?

To best illustrate, here’s a fresh new RAW gameplay from the game, captured from the end of Chapter 01, where Touma faces off with Scorpion. We quickly clicked through the story pages to avoid bigger spoilers, but be warned - you will find a few of them in the footage below.
Story Campaign
You play as Touma, a Polish drifter, who comes to Japan to restart his life. With the help of a few friends, he gets up on his feet and starts to compete in local racing events, growing his reputation and building a name for himself. The story is told through a series of events/missions intertwined with manga pages.

You always start in the open world, riding out of your garage. The game will then mark the next Story event on your map, which will progress the narrative. When you drive to the spot, you will be able to interact with a marker and launch the next mission. The event will most often open up with a manga page (or a few) and then proceed to the race. After completion, you will be back in the open world, and a new marker will show up on your map.

Of course, you don’t need to push story events one after another, the whole game world is open for you from the moment you step out of your garage, so it’s up to you if you want to roam around Guntama in between the Main Story events.
Story Events
During the campaign, you will take part in a plethora of events: some happening directly on the streets of Guntama, some on dedicated racing tracks (which you will also be able to visit from the open world at any time). You will compete in drifting events - where style points decide the winners, or in grip races, in which you have to cross the finish line first. Sometimes, you will need to be first AND race in the best style, so take notice of the win conditions during each event.

Story Events do not need to be connected to a race - without spoiling too much, let us only say that you will work for a sushi restaurant and you will be challenged by various characters to show off your skills. You will also make a few enemies on your journey, so expect chases to be part of the experience.

JDM: Japanese Drift Master is releasing May 21st. If you haven’t done so, please consider wishlisting and following the game, to never miss a beat (it also helps us out with visibility!), thanks!
