Incoming Flights, Outgoing Chaos Devlog# 2 🛩️

Hey there, security recruits and suitcase snoopers! 👮

Welcome back to another devlog from the sun-drenched (and slightly suspicious) world of Airport Contraband. Buckle up, because today we’re diving deep into what it really means to be the last line of defense between paradise and pure madness.
The Daily Grind on a Not-So-Ordinary Island 🏝️
Nobody said airport security was easy — especially not on our small, charming tropical island that just happens to be a hotspot for smugglers, shady deals, and questionable fashion choices. Your job? Vet every single passenger who decides to set foot here. Some are here for a relaxing getaway, others are just passing through… and a few might be here to make your life a living nightmare.

Passengers will come in all shapes, sizes, and degrees of guilt. Some forget their passports. Others try to sneak in highly illegal "souvenirs." And then there’s that one guy who insists his briefcase full of exotic snakes is just part of a magic show. Sure, buddy.
Not Just Arrivals — Departures Too! 🛫
Think you’re done once everyone’s off the plane? Think again. Your duties also include departures, which means double the passengers, double the luggage, and definitely double the headaches. Whether they’re coming or going, you’ve got to make sure no one’s breaking the rules (or stuffing contraband into a fruit basket).
Development Tree (And How to Upgrade It) 🧰
At first, everything is a humble dream of greatness. But as you progress, you’ll be able to expand your development tree. Think James Bond, but more clipboard and less exploding pen.

Stay focused, stay alert, and remember: not all problems are obvious. Sometimes it’s a fake ID. Sometimes it’s a fishy story. And sometimes it’s an actual fish. In a backpack. With sunglasses.
The Big Question: Which Side Are You On? 🆚
Of course, your role isn’t just about paperwork and pat-downs. This island is under the thumb of a flamboyant dictator and watched closely by a very persuasive cartel. They both want something from you — and they’re not afraid to make their demands crystal clear.

Will you stand by the rule of law and become the model airport officer? Or will you give in to temptation and make some quick (but extremely sketchy) cash? Whatever you choose, remember: every bribe accepted, every suspect waved through, every choice you make will ripple through your story.
What’s Next? 📝
We’re working hard to make every moment at the airport feel unpredictable and packed with personality — and that includes the passengers! In future devlogs, we’ll introduce you to some of the more… memorable characters you’ll be scanning, questioning, and possibly want to bribe you.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1167820/Airport_Contraband/

Until then, keep your scanners warm and your bribes negotiable. We’d love to hear what you think about Airport Contraband, so drop us a comment, a message, or just a very suspiciously heavy suitcase.

Thanks for flying with us, and see you in the next devlog!

And in the meantime, while you're waiting for the next devlog, check out the fresh Car Dealer Simulator demo from Garage Monkeys, which they just released. If you've played the Prologue, you can now check out the all-new content, and those who haven't yet had a chance to play either the Prologue or the Demo, just try both, because it's a piece of good gameplay.

Paradise Island, Smugglers, and... a Dictator?! 🏝️🛩️

Hello, fellow airport enthusiasts! 🛩️

The time has come to show you another riveting devlog, and, boy, don't we just have some salivating updates for you! Take out those boarding passes; it is now time to leave the tarmac and take a flight to the wide, sun-sunk world of Airport Contraband!
Welcome to Paradise - or Is It? 🏝️
First and foremost, our little tropical paradise needs a name. We've tossed some things around — Isla Turbulencia? Contraband Cay? Smuggler's Haven? — but we're open to suggestions! We do know this island is much more than sandy beaches and swaying palm trees. Under the surface is a powder keg of tension, secrets, and a lot of questionable luggage.

As the airport's security officer, you're the gatekeeper standing between the island's two major power players: a charming but ruthless dictator with a flair for bizarre decrees and a cunning cartel that knows how to make tempting offers and equally persuasive threats. Sounds like a dream job, right?
A Day in the Life of a Highly Stressed Airport Security Officer 👮
Imagine you start your shift, sipping the finest cup of coffee on the island, all geared up to keep those skies safe. Well, you haven't even had time to say Jack Robinson and it's gotten out of hand. There are irritable passengers, someone is smuggling exotic lizards in their carry-on, the dictator has declared a decree against red socks, and the cartel is whispering in your ear about special packages to go through - no questions asked.

Your job is to navigate this chaos with a keen eye and quick reflexes. Spot the suspicious travelers, question them, and decide whether to uphold the law or let a few things slide for a price, of course. But beware: every decision you make will have consequences, and this island doesn't forgive easily.
The Dictator vs. The Cartel 🆚
Let's go over the two big players on the island.
The Dictator 🫅
Imagine a man who wakes up one morning and decides the world needs to start wearing hats shaped like pineapples. That's your boss. His ordinances vary from mildly annoying to truly bizarre. And you, as this airport's chief of security, are going to have to enforce these laws - even when they make passengers and yourself question reality.

Disobeying his rules? Well, let's just say he doesn't take kindly to rebellion. Expect fines, demotions, or even a surprise visit from his "personal advisors".
The Cartel 🤠
And then we have the cartel. They're the ones who send you a nice little note that says: "Nice airport you have there. Pity if something were to happen to it." Tempting cash, resources, and every now and again, "favors" - but at what cost?

Turning down their offers might seem like the moral choice, but how long can you resist when the bills start piling up? And remember, the cartel has eyes everywhere. Trust no one.
Moral Dilemmas at 30,000 Feet 🤔
Player choice is one of the core elements we're focusing on. Do you strictly follow the rules and become the island's most diligent officer, or do you dabble in a bit of corruption to make life easier?

Maybe it starts out innocently enough: you've got good intentions, at least. But when the dictator wants you to take away a person's good-luck charm, or when the cartel offers a fat wad of cash to turn a blind eye, will the resolve weaken?

Every choice is an important choice. And remember one thing, though: this is no simple airport security gig here, the name of the game is Airport Contraband. The stakes are high and as hot as the tropic temperatures.
What's Next? 🗒️
We will gradually reveal more gameplay features, such as the questioning and interrogation system, the quirky passengers, and of course, the contraband itself. Ever wonder how a parrot gets past security? You’ll soon find out. Meanwhile, beware and inspect your luggage. Paradise is not as sweet as it sounds. Remember, it is not what is in the suitcase, but who has packed it. See you on the island.

P.S Our friends over Garage Monkeys wanted us to share that Car Dealer Simulator: Prologue just had its release. The free introduction to the base game allows you to get your hands-on the core mechanics of the game, so if you’re looking for something to pass the time over the weekend, feel free to check it out.

Catching some tailwind!

In our last announcement, we mentioned that we are going to let you in our plans on how to proceed with Airport Contraband’s development. It’s something that’s has been set up for a bit now and we now reached a point where we can make it official.
You see, one of the ideas that has been floating around here at the studio, since it’s an obvious one, is to find a team to aid us and develop the game together.

Right, easier said than done, considering that for such a close cooperation which we have in mind the list of requirements makes that obvious approach quite difficult in the real world. Let’s just look at some of the key points on our list:

 • A team that we already know or worked with in the past, so there will be no surprises.
 • A team with a high level of experience in terms of game development.
 • A team that also has the same level of experience in terms of handling development pre- and post-release, having already made some games.
 • A team that is going to be passionate about that type of game.
 • A team that will not just develop our game but make it their game and put their own heart into it.
 • A team that can basically match our team structure since we’ll have to work together closely.
 • A team with members who worked with each other on a regular basis and know each other.

And since we are writing a letter to Santa Claus, let’s also add that we’d like the team to be local, so we just grab a cab or jump on a tram across town and can meet up quickly.

You know, sometimes ones really gets lucky. It doesn’t happen often, but this time it happened for us. We did manage to find a local team checking everything on the list, and they just finished a project, and are ready to start cooperating with us on developing Airport Contraband :)

This team is Titanite Games, and we all just jumped right in and started working on Airport Contraband!

We will do a detailed introduction soon and outline how we want to proceed and what may change in the game going forward, but we need some time with both teams to wrap up some planning tasks first.
