Revita - Newsletter October 2021

Hi everyone!
The whole team hope you had a Happy Halloween! Wait, does it mean it's already Christmas time? 😳
Like the September newsletter, we can't say too much in this one. To quote our lead dev BenStar: "Me looking at the beasts and bees update patchnote and going "ha cute""

Heyo, Ben here.
One of the big upcoming changes, that we have already teased on twitter and discussed heavily in our discord community, is the change to hp balancing. With the upcoming update, we have taken a lot of the feedback to heart in regards to the game being frustratingly difficult. Now, difficulty isn't the issue, its supposed to be and still will be, but it should never be frustrating. In order to achieve this new balancing, enemies will now deal half a heart of damage instead of full hearts, however relic costs won't change, meaning the balancing whether you want to invest heavily into upgrades or survivability still stay the same. There are also a bunch of other changes to make, especially the early experience flow a lot better. I hope you are looking forward to those changes!

Hello again, you lovely, spooky people. It's Octoberween, and do you know what that means? It's newsletter time. The whole team has been hard at work on the next update, and as usual, any details on that front get embargoed until launch. Lucky for you, I have a few bits I saved from the last update to share. In particular, some behind-the-scenes inspiration for one of the newest characters, the Fisherman.
When I was writing the Fisherman, I saw him in my head as death. Not in the literal sense. That's too overt. The mystery of the Clocktower and its cast of characters is far more nuanced than that. Still, he was death. Not your typical grim reaper here to spirit souls away to their final destination. Instead, he's the kindly-faced allure of giving into distraction without end. In these strange and trying pandemic times, it's easy (for me at least) to stare into the face of this ongoing health crisis, become overwhelmed, and lose myself in distractions– even if they're momentary.
Proof that inspiration can come from anywhere, I took that notion, internalized it, and built it into the idea of the Fisherman, who wants little more from life than a quiet, sunlit day, filled with good food and, if absolutely unavoidable, tolerable conversation with a new friend.
So, there you have it, a peek behind the Revita writing curtain.
