New Year, New News Update, New Horizons

Hey everyone, Ben here.
I hope your start to the new year has been as exciting as ours!

Due to quite a few things going on behind the scenes recently I thought it was important to post another update regarding progress on Refocused and things happening outside of Revita.

For one, quite a lot of progress has been made on Refocused towards the end of last year!

We got some more updated ui elements:

A bunch of cool new relics!

Even more Quality of Life!

And lastly, the game finally has a place where you can look up general statistics and also data on your previous runs =D

Now to the more important bits! As you might remember, in the last post I mentioned that even though we would return to working on Refocused, the original issues wouldn't be gone and they still aren't. Since Refocused is pretty expensive to produce in order to get it where I want it to be according to my vision, me and the team started working on a new project to keep ourselves above water.
While I can't say too much about it yet, though you can probably expect an announcement sometime around the middle of the year, I think it's safe to say that if you enjoyed Revita, you'll probably also like our new game!

So, what does that mean for Refocused then? The short and simple answer is that the new project has become our priority while Refocused has become the "Hobby" project. However this means we'll be able to keep working on more games going forward and ALSO work on Refocused, Refocused will just take a bit longer to complete. However this still doesn't mean Refocused WILL release, as the outside factors and general circumstances mentioned in the last post still exist, but it at the very least allows us to potentially finish Refocused without having to rely on others in regards to funding and to finish it on our own terms. Should it not, I am still proud of what we as a first time team accomplished. We finished and released a big scoped Roguelite, with tons of relics, enemies and other content. With the help of the community via countless updates throughout Early Access. And speaking of community, have been able to gather one of the coolest communities around Revita!

Refocused will never and was never meant as a way to make more money, it was a passion project through and through and will stay that way. I still have the drive to want to finish it and will continue working on it on the side.
But should the time come where I'll have to stop, so be it. I am still immensly proud of what we made and I'll keep fighting till then. =D

Of course as always, should anything change, should there be cool new details to share, or anything else I deem important to share, I'll do so here, on our Discord and Twitter, as transparency is always key!

Lastly I also wanted to shout out a really cool Celeste mod made by people in the community, that is based on Revita. Super cool stuff, give it a shot if you are able to =D

With all that out of the way, I hope you too will have a happy 2024, me and the team certainly hope it won't be as much of an emotional rollercoaster as last year. And we hope you are looking forward what we have been cooking, be it regarding Refocused and/or the new project

The REVISED Current and Future State of Revita

Hey everyone, Ben here.

Before we get into the exciting stuff I just wanted to take a quick second to say that Revita is currently on sale for 35% off during the Steam Autumn Sale. So if you haven't grabbed the game yet, now is a good time!

Additionally we are also up for the Steam Awards, so if you wanna help us out, feel free to vote for us in the category of "Labour of Love", we'd super appreciate it!

With that out of the way, lets get to the exciting stuff. As many of you know, I haven't really been posting anything here due to the fact that Refocused had been cancelled back at the beginning of October.

Well I am happy to say that it might not be in such a dire situation anymore.

Thanks to the outpouring of fan support last month, it gave us the opportunity to get every participant back to the table to renegotiate the situation and so without wanting to make any promises, it looks like Refocused will release in some form afterall!

The original issues aren't gone though sadly, so while it looks like we'll be able to release it, for now the priority lies soley with a PC only release. Console porting is very expensive, and at least so far, with the publishers expectations regarding sales, not financially viable and therefore not on the table. There is always the chance that the update does well enough for itself, to make those ports viable though and that is at least what I am hoping for!

We were given the option to either release nothing or PC only and so in that case, I personally think a chance is always better than nothing.

In regards to release window, I can't really say much as of now. Due to the whole situation happening for quite a duration ahead of the announcement, we are missing at least a few months of full development time. Additionally, since I am now financing the update mostly out of pocket, where I am able to, I will also have to look into new projects on top of Refocused work in order to make sure that there is steady income and a budget, both for finishing the update the way I want to, as well as making sure future projects are going to still be viable. If I had to make a very rough guess though, I would personally like to be able to release it at some point in the first half of 2024, but again, no promises.

With all that rambling aside, I thought it would also be nice to show some new Refocused gifs and screenshots for you to look at. In the mean time I'll get back to finishing the update. Again huge thanks to the community, this definitely wouldn't be happening without you!

The Current and Future State of Revita

Hey everyone, Ben here.

I know a few people have been anticipating the new update but I have some unfortunate news to share, that to some, might come as a bit of a surprise.

After nearly 2 years of hard work, time invested and money spent on the 2.0 update, I sadly have to announce that it and further work on Revita will come to a halt.

After long discussions with our publisher, Dear Villagers, we reluctantly have come to the realisation that continuing work on Revita and its 2.0 update would be too costly, from both sides, to be worth pursuing further. The costs of porting, QA and localization alone would vastly outweigh any revenue gained from this update, even if we charged for it.

This decision was of course very difficult to make. The team and I have poured a lot of time, effort and personally quite a bit of money into it too, which we hope is visible from what we have shown so far, so trust me when I say this is the last thing I wanted to happen.

It's an upsetting turn of events and ruefully one that is completely out of my hands. However, I'll be holding onto the update files and assets very closely, and who knows, hopefully the opportunity will show itself in the future and we will be able to release it in some form, just not any time soon. But trust me, if there is any way to make it happen, I'll try my darndest!

Thank you all for your support over the last few years. Revita and it's community truly mean the world to me and again I am devastated and upset that we couldn't deliver what everyone was eagerly waiting for.

But there is at least some promising news, in light of this decision, roughly two months ago we began to work on a new project and it looks to be very exciting, especially if you already liked what we did in Revita. No specifics to share as of now, but we'll make sure to let you know once we do.

Thank you for your understanding and as always, if there are any questions, I'll be here and on the discord to respond to them.

Dev Update | Progression Changes

Hey everyone,

There is a lot of stuff going on behind the scenes atm, so I might have been a bit more quiet recently.
Not just is Revita going to be at Bitsummit in Japan and at Gamescom in Germany, but there are also a handful other things, that I can't talk about right now, but might be able to one day. =D

However that won't stop me from talking about some new things I have been working on recently.
Namely, Progression Changes.

The Memoria Tree:

As you already know, the tree at Memoria Station keeps track of all of your discovered secrets, but going forward it won't start out as big. As you uncover more secrets it will slowly grow more and more.
This doesn't change a whole lot in regards to gameplay, but I thought would be a cute way to have some more "visible" progression throughout the game! =D

Trial Tickets:

Trial Tickets are the replacement for the previous Trial Relics. They are a little bit different from other Tickets in that they will persist between runs as long as you don't use them, meaning you don't have to slowly unlock relics in fear of not utilizing them all properly.

New Death Screen:

Lastly, we also reworked the Death Screen! Not just is it a lot clearer and faster to use now, but it also gives additional details on which Npcs got something for you at the hub, how much and what it is.
Oh and what could the "growth" bar potentially mean? Well I guess you'll have to wait and see.

With all these changes this update is really starting to feel a lot more like a sequel than an update to be honest. but I am quite happy with the direction it is all going in and if anything they will ensure the Revita experience is a lot smoother, more fun and more interesting overall! =D
As always feel free to leave your feedback in the comments, or in the Revita Discord!

Until next time,
- Ben
