Road Map #3

Here is a tentative roadmap for the rest of the year. As always, nothing is really set in stone, but I will be trying my hardest to keep to what’s outlined here.

Additionally, there are a few backer-generated quests and characters that will be added but not listed.

October: The Valley of Pillars, sexy orgy stuff, revamped Free Mode

October’s going to be a strange month. My main goal is to flesh out the Valley of Pillars, a large explorable area of the Abyss comparable to the surface overworld. There are lots of locations, quests and mysteries here, and they are mostly non-linear, so it will take a little more effort.

Also, as I expected, the Abyss questline is possibly the most plot-rich of the four faction quest chains, as it not only explores (and reveals) the most fundamental mysteries of MoonFall, but also those of your companions. It also acts as a direct prequel to my previous game, Singularity: Tactics Arena. Honestly, I could probably build an entire game out of the Abyss.

The Valley of Pillars itself is an eerie and incredibly dangerous place. The October update will add a number of roaming mobs that will make exploration riskier than usual.

For now, there are a few important locales in the Valley of Pillars that I want to cover:

 • The Forgotten City - a ruined but still inhabited city inside the heart of the Abyss
 • A Decaying Tower - a looming tower with a strange, fungal growth on its exterior
 • The Central Temple - an imposing and monolithic structure with a dark history, and houses an anomaly that some of you may recognize from my last game

Additionally, I will start introducing sex scenes involving more than one companion, and there is a good possibility that the revamped Free Mode will be released this month.

November: The Coming Storm, Faction mechanics

For the Coming Storm, Dejah Mars will be tasking the player to take out some vital infrastructure in MoonFall.

A more detailed faction reputation mechanic will also be implemented. I originally intended to introduce this mechanic much earlier, but had a hard time figuring how to make it fun and not frustrating.

Having too high of a reputation with one faction will net you a warning from their rivals. Go even beyond that, and their rivals may consider you an enemy. But these factions are large organizations. Some individuals will still want to work with you, but others may want you dead and put out a contract on you.

Faction rivalry:

Guild Progressives ->Stormbreakers ->The Old Watch ->Three Moons ->The Board ->Traveler’s Mandate ->
That leads to the Pursuers. As their name suggests, Pursuers will actively try to hunt the player down on the overworld map if there is a contract on their head.

Pursuers are difficult enemies and one of the few that will be scaled to the player’s Esteem (not level). They are also very fast… but a canny player will have several options to deal with them besides just combat. You can even pay them off to report you dead… but that will only fool their faction for so long.

December: Story content

The last update of the year will be completely story-focused. I try not to make any promises ahead of time, but I will be striving to complete and launch 1.0 of the game sometime in 2022.

For the last portion of the game, Endgame, I will likely depart from the usual monthly updates and release one large update when the game is finished. There’s a lot of exciting changes and events that come with Endgame, but I’ll let you know more once we get closer.

For December, I am focusing on two questlines:

For the Iron and Velvet questline, Iron Gregarion will be moving against his enemies both in and outside of the cartel.

In the Bloody Hawk, Shrike sends you on a fact-finding mission to learn more about the famous shaper that has resurfaced.

Version 0.22 now live

Hi everyone!

A smaller update this month as I’ve been working on a lot of background stuff that isn’t quite ready to be included in the early access version of the game. Also, I think future missions in the Abyss quest chain will be a little bit different than the other quest chains, as it’ll involve an explorable area comparable to the overworld map.

Here’s what’s in this update:

Pixel sex scenes for Zafra, Diana and Jasen (for both male and female PCs). Sex scenes can only by accessed after completing their personal romance quests and being in a relationship with them.

You can invite them to your room under the dialogue option: Relationship->More options->Come to my room

The Abyss

The Valley of Pillars is now open. Return to the Nonas for a short quest to get past the Gate Guardian and then you can explore the valley itself. Currently, much of the content in the valley is still under development, so it’s mostly exploration for some lore tidbits.

I’ll also be putting up the revised roadmap soon.

Thanks again,

Announcement: Upgrading Free Mode to 3D!

Hi everyone!

I will be changing Free Mode sex scenes from animated lineart to 3D! Only Free Mode will be affected (and existing bugs will be patched too). The pixel art and 2D art will not be changed.

One of the biggest reasons I decided to release Memoirs into Early Access was to get player feedback as development continues. One thing I’ve seen consistently was a demand for sex scenes beyond just pixel animations. I’ve been experimenting with animated black and white line art, but I wasn’t entirely pleased with that approach, and players weren’t either.

So my animator and I went back to the drawing board and we decided to tackle 3D animation. The results blew us away, and we hope that our players will be equally pleased. This upgrade will put the adult content in this game on par with much bigger projects. It goes without saying that it involves a monumental investment in time, effort and probably finances as well.

But I did set out to make the best adult RPG I could, and this brings Memoirs one step closer to that goal.

The challenge in converting characters from their 2D anime-esque art to lifelike 3D is more than just staying faithful to appearances, but also capturing the personality of the characters. I think my animator TORii has done a great job in that regard. I will also be putting out a new, revised roadmap soon, as I expect working on 3D to take some time.

[Update: images have been removed as they no longer represent the current state of the 3D gameplay. Will post new stuff soon.]

Hotpatch version 0.20.1

Hi everyone,

Decided to just a hotpatch to fix some of the following bugs:

 • Updating skill trees upon leaving the guild hall causes an unknown bug, removed the feature until I discover why. Players can still update skill trees at Golgo's.
 • Various skill tree bugs have been fixed
 • New characters and companions not starting with full skill trees have been fixed
 • The bed bug (poor hitbox detection for the player's bed) has been fixed

Version 0.21 now live!

Hi everyone! This is probably the biggest update since the beginning of Early Access, so I’m pretty excited to get it out in the world. It was also somewhat exhausting to cram all this content into one update, so I'm also relieved it's finished. The combat overhaul in particular was much more work than even I anticipated, especially balancing the new skills and working out the bugs.

I’m also working on a big surprise. Since it’s still at a very early stage, I’ll simply leave you with this teaser image:
What’s in version 0.21?
ACT II

Players can start ACT II at any time as long as they have finished the fourth quest in ANY faction chain. Starting ACT II will not cancel or expire any missions. At the end of ACT II, players can formally ally themselves with either the Traditionalist or Progressive guild factions, or continue to remain neutral.

ACT II can be accessed on Level 1 of the Guild Hall, with a floating quest marker, once the above conditions are met.

Diane, Zafra and Jasen’s romance quests

Romance quests for the final 3 companions. Zafra’s quest in particular is combat heavy and relatively difficult, although the new combat overhaul may make it more manageable. Due to time constraints, the sex scenes will be added next month.

Combat skill tree overhaul

Around 50 new combat skills added! A new subclass/specialization for each class! Two new Momentum skills for each existing subclass!

My gameplay design philosophy has always been to offer players more options. I understand this goes against most modern design philosophies, which prefer to streamline and reduce gameplay to appeal to wider audiences. That’s not something I generally agree with.

The biggest overhaul to the combat system is the increased attention on Momentum skills, which are bonus actions much like features. This will make combat much easier for many players, as it can dramatically increase the number of actions taken per turn. However, due to how powerful mid and late game enemies will be, I consider this possibly a necessary addition.

There are now a whopping 12 subclasses in the game! The skills added in this update are designed to help the subclasses focus more on their specialty. Additionally, each subclass now must be unlocked by spending two class points.

Due to some restrictions from the game engine, the new skill trees will not automatically update. Talking to Golgo will now prompt you to update your skill trees, with the option to skip.

Subclasses and their general roles:

Soldier Subclasses

Frontline Juggernaut - melee tank
Heavy Artillery - ranged AOE
Chem Rager - high mobility melee

Shaper Subclasses

Reality Warper - damage mage
Memory Weaver - debuff mage
Wudajin Disciple - very high mobility melee mage

Support Subclasses

Combat Engineer - well-rounded support
Battle Saint - melee healer
Drone Controller - summoner support

Vigilante Subclasses

Shadow Stalker - high-damage single target melee
Silent Vanguard - high-damage single target ranged
Troubleshooter - silencer/mage killer

Due to the overwhelming amount of new combat options, I haven’t had enough time to thoroughly bugtest as much as I’d like, so expect some bugs.

I have also added a new category of weapons: Less-than-lethal weapons. For now this includes a whip and taser, and they can be found in the Saint Gorfu gunshop. Likewise due to time constraints, additional items will be added at a later date.

Bugfixes:

 • Various typos in the Skill Trees have been fixed
 • Reputation loss from attacking factions in the overworld have been greatly increased
 • Relationship bugs have been fixed
 • All summoning skills have been rebuilt and switched to direct control
 • Summoning errors should now be fixed
