Various fixes and QoL patch

Version 1.0.240417 - 17 Apr 2024
  • Lobby changes: You can now select (or create) a character with a different torment level from the lobby owner
  • Quickplay game list now also shows 0-torment games
  • Added incoming damage indicator for rotten damage and cards that deal damage to the player
  • Added an option to decline taking cards given by the Vicious Hatchet artifact
  • Added displaying attacking monsters indicators when the turn starts
  • Added highlighting character avatar when hovering over their character in dungeon and vice versa
  • Added closing drop-down lists by the B button on the controller
  • Fixed exploits when returning from locations to rewards
  • Fixed Shadow Stance and Backflip influences lowering damage for all heroes from an AOE attack
  • Fixed crashes when loading broken characters
  • Large tweaks and improvements to RU translation done by Ermak. These changes were rolling out in stages over the last couple of updates

Languages and Bugfixes Update

  • Fixed card upgrade window getting stuck after pressing the ESC key
  • Updated French and Chinese translations
  • Added missing tooltips to selected cards (thank you ERMAK for reporting this one!)

Cards, Chocolate Box and Quality of Life stuff

The two most noteworthy changes in this update are fifteen new cards and a new artifact with a card draft mechanic. We also implemented the first two QoL improvements from our new feature request website.

[h2]New Cards[/h2]
As promised we would like to add more cards to each class. Starting with Rogue, who receives 15 new cards today. These include a new Quarrel card tag. Here you can see three out of fifteen new cards:



Ivy Extract card is also changing to take into account new cards.
[h2]New Artifact[/h2]

Called Chocolate Box, this starting artifact acts as an improved Veteran's Pin. When selected, it allows you to draft cards picking from sets of fixed types of cards.

[h2]Noteworthy QoL[/h2]
  • Floor span will now be listed when picking Torment modifiers in endless.
  • It's now possible to go back to the Reward Screen if no Location options has been used.
  • When upgrading cards in locations it will now be possible to view the upgrades.

  • Fixed exploit with adding multiple starting artifacts when changing language during character creation
  • Fixed a rare crash when starting the battle

Hotfixes Update and Feature Request Tracker!

We pinpointed and fixed a couple of bugs reported by the community after the last update. You can read the full list of fixes at the end of this post.

We are also testing a public feature request tracker. Ideally, this would help us to see which features are most requested and keep track of stuff better while at the same time empowering you, the players (insert Bane gif :archduck: ).

We decided to try it out for a week or two and see if it works out. Please go to https://feedback.hellcardgame.com/, request features you feel are needed and would improve Hellcard, and vote on others you think are cool.

Don't know about you but I'm excited to have a place where all ideas can be discussed and upvoted.

Keyboard, Japanese, join in progress, and more!

Thanks to our community translator Dumpty, we can add the Japanese language today!

We are also experimentally rolling out an often-requested feature: play while you wait. You can now enter matchmaking and start the run alone. Other players will be able to join you while you play. The caveat here is that the game will be more challenging since there are no companions in co-op mode.

Aside from the above today's update introduces some quality-of-life changes and fixes a crash.

  • Added join-in-progress functionality to co-op mode. You can now start a multiplayer run alone with player slots open and other players may join your lobby. You can then either retreat from battle (without losing HP) to play with them right away or finish the current fight and meet them in the lobby afterward
  • Added keyboard support to battle (number keys for player cards, function keys for companion cards)
  • Added click-to-select cards to battle (which works alongside current drag-to-select)
  • Added easier navigation on the controller to the language window
  • Added Japanese translation. Dumpty, thank you for your hard work!
  • Fixed Travel Light achievement not working for Tinkerer
  • Fixed Deck and Almanac windows not opening by controller shortcuts on some Location's windows
  • Fixed crash when pasting special characters to Feedback Widget
