Dev Update - Pitstops, Online Leaderboards and more!

Hi guys!

We're making lots of progress on the game and in this post we'll highlight a number of features and recent additions which we are especially excited about.

Pitstops

This has been one of the most requested features, and we're happy to let you know that pitstops will be an integrated part of the racing experience.

We've equipped the cars with fuel tanks, which means that, on longer races, cars will need to pit mid-race for refueling. This creates a new dimension to the gameplay and lets you experiment with different pitstop strategies in order to optimize your race performance. We're really happy with the way this feature turned out, and how it makes the races feel even more dynamic, and fun!

Online Leaderboards

Another much requested feature is online leaderboards. This is now part of the game and you will be able to compare your results against other drivers around the world. Our servers will store leaderboards for lap times, race times and top speeds for all tracks.

Driver Nationalities

With online leaderboards in place, wouldn't it be nice if you could represent your own country? We though so, and added ~200 flags to the game which you can choose freely between. Let's see which country has the fastest drivers!

Time Trial Mode

For those of you who like to optimize your driving and find the perfect racing line, we think you will like our new Time Trial mode. In this mode you drive by yourself on a selected track for as many laps as you want, trying to improve your lap time and advance on the online leaderboard. The leaderboard is displayed at all times, showing your current position in the list, as well as the interval times to drivers ahead of you - so you know exactly how much faster you'll need to drive in order to advance to a higher position.

And The Release Is Getting Closer...

We are gradually shifting focus now to start preparing for the full release of the game. There are still some work to be done on world tour (more info on this later), as well as general fine tuning, but the finish line is clearly visible. This feels really exciting and we can't wait for you to get your hands on the full game when it's released. :-)

Cheers,
Per & Marcus

Dev Update

In addition to building new tracks and working on the game mechanics, we're also spending a bit of time reviewing and refining the existing content in the game. Part of this is stuff we've been wanting to address ourselves, and part of it is based on feedback and comments directly from you guys - something we really appreciate!

In this post we'll show you a few examples of this refinement with pedagogic "before and after" pictures. :-)
Adjusted Race Curbs
First up, we have removed the spacing between the tracks and the race curbs, plus elevated the curbs slightly to make it more realistic, as well as more fun to drive through the curves.
(Thanks to hjuugoo for this suggestion!).
New Rails
Next, we've replaced all rails, which were previously a bunch of straight segments, with a new variant which is more realistically curved along the tracks. Looks better and you're also less prone to get stuck on a sharp corner when driving close to the rails.
Updated Race Cars
The final improvement we want to highlight is the updated car design. We've made quite a few changes to the race cars, adding more detail everywhere and adjusting color schemes. Here are two examples (out of a total of twelve new designs):

Well, that's all we got for you today. Hope you like it! If you haven't already, please join us on Discord to share your feedback or discuss the game with other players: Click here to join.

Demo Update - Improved car handling, better AI, a new track, and more...

Hi guys!

We've just released an update to the demo with a bunch of important improvements. Based on your feedback, we've adjusted the car dynamics to make the steering more direct and to give you better control of the car in general. Learning how to handle the car is still one of the intended challenges of the game, but we believe these changes will provide a better balance for new, as well as experienced, players.

Furthermore we've made changes to the AI behavior of the other cars. They are now less prone to crashing into your car, and the dreaded "wheel lock" should not happen very often from now on. The AI is also more dynamic now, resulting in more competitive driving among the AI cars, more overtakes etc.

Finally, we're letting you try out a new track in this update. Clydebank has been replaced with Highashi, which is a tight, varied track, a little bit based on the iconic Suzuka Circuit in Japan.
Changelog
• Replaced Clydebank track with Higashi track
 • Car control adjustments to make steering more direct
 • Steering helper adjustments
 • Changes to AI cars to make them less aggressive, less prone to drive into the player
 • Added logic to AI cars to prevent/minimize the cases of their wheels interlocking with the player's car
 • Better curve handling for AI cars
 • Reworked the "rubberbanding" of the AI cars to make them adjust (to a certain degree) to the performance of the player
 • Added AI car performance variability during the course of the race, resulting in less predictable races.
 • Increased the number of cars in a races to 12
 • Made it possible to skip directly to race summary even if not all podium cars have finished
 • Made it possible to speed up race summary points calculation
 • Camera mode is now remembered between races
 • Last used car is automatically selected in the car select screen
 • Added "distance to next car" info when far behind the car ahead, as well as "distance to 2nd place" when in the lead.
 • Increased the rendering performance of sand particles

Give the demo a try and let us know what you think!

Dev Update

Hi guys!

It's been a while since our last update. As some of you know, we participated in the Steam Game Festival a few weeks ago, which led to many people trying out our just-released demo. As a result of this, we've recieved lots of valuable feedback and comments and it's been great hearing what you think about this preview of the game! Some of the feedback will certainly influence how we move forward towards final release.

At the moment we're building more tracks and refining the car controls. We're also doing difficulty balancing and improving logic and behavior of the AI cars.

Here's a sneak peek of a new night track we're working on.

And those of you who have played the demo might recognize this one. It's Clydebank, but in reverse. Looks like the rain has finally stopped.. :-)

Demo Version Released!

We're happy to let you know that we've just released a free demo version of Race Condition! This demo let's you try three different tracks from the game in single player mode, or 2-4 players split screen.

As you know, the game is still in development, and details are continuously being fine tuned. You can help us in this process by letting us know what you like, as well as what you don't. Every kind of feedback is genuinely valuable to us.

Now, go ahead and try out the demo!

All the best,
Per & Marcus
