Friday Progress Report 298

The quests are talking a bit more than expected, the old system was a lot less flexible than we remembered, but they are almost done, As soon as we finish hunting the bugs we will release the Questing update.



Every NPC has their own quests, asking for critters, fish, crops and forage, in the future more items will be added to the list as we implement them.

Quests are easily moddable as they are entirely contained in XML files.

While my brother finishes up the quests I begun working on the exploration update, starting with small forage, the first plants we will be adding will be both pretty and edible.

Dandelion


A very common weed with pretty yellow flowers, did you know they are edible? The entire plant can be eaten, despite the weak nutrition and bad taste, there will be ways to prepare them and make it a decent ingredient. Dandelions will spawn in the areas between grasslands and cliffs or roads.

Violet


Violets are also edible and despite being cultivated in gardens IRL they are indeed weeds. They will grow in small patches in the middle of grasslands.

I am also making cattails as a new grass type, but it won't be harvestable until we add the shovel that will allow the player to gather the edible roots.

Keep in mind that these forageables will not be as abundant as they are now, most of them will take a full year to respawn, so choosing to harvest and use them all at once can lead to a nasty winter.

Friday Progress Report 297

We will probably be able to resume fulltime development soon, my brother is finishing up his freelance work, the Catarse campaign is basically done and is waiting for a few more scenes for the new trailer that will use the reworked quest system and we got some financial support from our family.

The quest rework should be done by next Friday. Right now it is half-way done and quite broken, so we won't be uploading a new version until it is done.

Again short report, but can't really do anything about it, as we were busy with other work.



Also a screenshot from the house I build for the new trailer, I will upload it to the workshop after the trailer is up.

Friday Progress Report 296

We only managed to work 2 days on the game this week, so we couldn't do much progress other than a few bugfixes, this week there is nothing really to report, and the next few weeks will be very similar.

Since we can't try a kickstarter campaign we are going to do one in Catarse.me, a brazilian alternative, with luck we will get some money to keep developing fulltime, the catch it that we will have to translate the game to brazilian portuguese, which will be time consuming, but would have to happen eventually anyways.



There isn't much else to report this week, sorry.

Fixed many types of buildings being built under the ground, including sprinklers

Friday Progress Report 295

Both Reiko and Yukari now sell finished dishes, Yukari's shop is right above Catarina's (the bakery Bready Good), Reiko sells food while she "prepares" it at the INN's kitchen during the morning.



All of the items they sell can be recreated and improved by the player, if you check your recipe book there will be over 60 pre-made recipes now, including all of Reiko's and Yukari's menu



Next we are going to reform the quest system a bit, instead of requesting finished dishes the characters will request crops, fish and critters as well as react with dialogue when the player delivers the items.

Now for more serious news.

If you have been keeping up with these updates you will know we are out of funds, We got some support from our family, with the condition we do some oddjobs and earn something while we develop the game, my brother managed to get a nice opportunity and will for the following weeks take time off from Edengrall and focus on the job he got, he will still develop during weekends, but right now I am the only one working fulltime on the game, and this may change as I am also looking for a freelance job or maybe we will try to crowdfund here on Brazil since we cannot use Kickstarter and other sites like that, this will probably last 2 or 3 months until we get out of the red and can go back to focusing on the game.
