G String - Critical Issue Patch - Now in Open Beta!
Hello,
[p]Here is the open beta for a fairly substantial game patch. This patch is focused on the current version of the game, with the intent of making it a far more stable experience. Virtually every concern from launch has been addressed, it is being opened to the public so that we may better collect your feedback and find any remaining bugs. [/p][p][/p][p]Please note this is NOT Ultimate Edition. More updates on that later! [/p]
Changelog
- [p]Intro video and game should now run on Linux via proton.
[/p] - [p]Reduced total game size by around 2 GB (via LZMA BSP/map compression).
[/p] - [p]Fixed issue with VGUI not rendering properly.
[/p] - [p]Fixed VGUI depth so the main menu now properly appears behind VGUI menus.
[/p] - [p]Removed faulty Cinema library (it was in-fact, not cinema).
[/p] - [p]Added new WebM video support library.
[/p] - [p]Fixed many crashes related to video playback.
[/p] - [p]Fixed broken audio issues.
[/p] - [p]Fixed issues where the game would not launch on Linux.
[/p] - [p]Finally fixed the "White Bug", in which props and textures would turn blindingly white.
[/p] - [p]Fixed file mounting issues preventing certain assets from loading at random.
[/p] - [p]Added DXSupport config, setting DX levels manually is no longer required.
[/p] - [p]Increased an internal memory usage limit, which may help with crashes experienced prior.

[/p]
How to opt into the Open Beta
[p]First, locate G String in your Steam library, and right click it. Then, click the Properties button. From there, press Betas, press the dropdown to the right of Beta Participation, and select legacy_patch_openbeta.
[/p]

[p]The Ultimate Edition us under development after a few setbacks over the past couple of years. [/p][p][/p][p]It will take some time but I am happy with whatever is done so far. I hope to put out a MODDB article detailing future plans later this year (2025). In the meantime, I hope that you'll try the open beta for the patch.
