Despot's Game: Dystopian Battle Simulator News

Here are the 8th season results!
"We're wrapping up the last 8 season of the old demo version!

Yes, season info again! Yes, we're reminding you about the new demo yet again! Any objections? That's right, «No objections, Mr. d'Spot, everything's fine.»"
The public playtest of the newest demo is starting on August 19. Until then, let's sum the last season up.

The 8 season's King of the Hill is bombbua. Besides taking the 1st, he took the positions from 3-6, as well as a lot of other positions: the participants will surely remember his expressive avatar for a long time. However, gadzilla prevented the King from completely dominating the top 5 by being ranked second! Last season's King, Bunsen05, ended up in the 7th position, thus finishing third.

  1. 🥇 bombbua
  2. 🥈 gadzilla
  3. 🥉 Bunsen05

As usual, the winners can receive their reward—the Steam version of Despotism 3k by sending a direct message to ShinShilo.

We have received a fair number of survey answers with useful feedback (and countless requests for us to add ridiculous stuff we don't even know how to make but oh well). We will turn the older demo off in a few hours and add a Playtest button to our Steam page on Aug 19. The plan is to give access to everyone, just not to everyone at once. You can read what's new in the upcoming demo here in this Steam post.

Playtest: What Does Despot Have in Store for You?
"- Hi, puny humans!

I have some news for you. The playtest kicks off on August 19th (you may have even been able to remember this — honestly, I'd be surprised given the limited abilities of your species), and I've prepared a number of new challenges for you. See the info below. You can read it to brighten up your totally insignificant stay in my captivity.
1. Leagues and groups have been added to the King of the Hill multiplayer mode. From now on, nobody will be kicked out of the ratings: every puny human will take their place. In the first season, all players will be divided into groups of 100. Top players from each group will be promoted to the higher league next season. The more battles you win, the higher your rating and the chance to move up to the next league. The first league is called Greenhorns, so it would be better for your already pitiful reputation not to stay there for long.

    For those who have no idea how The King of the Hill works:
    To fight other players' teams, you will need to clear the d'Spot dungeon. Battles will take place according to the principles of asynchronous multiplayer: your assembled and (hopefully) correctly placed team automatically joins the battle against an enemy team.

2. Seasons will be shorter during the playtest: we need to test the King of the Hill servers thoroughly. Each season will last from one to two weeks.

3. You can choose a starting team before your run thought the labyrinth. Each preset fits a different playstyle. For example:

4. Autoplacement is here! This feature allows you to save your undoubtedly negligible time, if you don't want to place humans manually before each fight. You can press the Q key to place selected units, or hold it down to place the entire army. The Autoplacement button is located to the left of the Fight button.

5. We added some abilities to some enemies, perhaps we even added some new enemies. Hard to keep an eye on everything, you know!

6. We have added new items! There will be 5 items for each class. That'll be enough; we are not going to change it in the near future. Period.

7. We have added the death log. Now you can check any time which of your humans died a miserable death in the last battle.

8. A new grid of mutation upgrade has been added.

9. Most of the mutations given in the altars have been replaced. We've hid some cool old mutations like Rubber Bullets to keep your interest to see how they all work together when we release the game.

10. We have added a cool new Reaper quest.

11. We have rebalanced the game. It wasn't about improvements. We had literally gotten rid of the old balance and created a new one from scratch. Any reason for that, you ask? We changed some formulas, and all the numbers were displaced. Well, most of them.
See you in a week, humans.
News About the Current Season, New Demo Release
"- Hey you, puny humans!

Tired of waiting for us to reveal the release date? I see. Well, keep waiting. We have other important news to share."
We're preparing a brand new demo version for you. Just like the last time, you will be able to play it by joining the playtest. We'll explain: you request access and we decide whether you're worthy or not. Simple as that. The ongoing 8th season of the current demo will be the last: we will conclude and recap it on August 17 and then launch the playtest. On what date? Can't tell you that quite yet. Stay tuned.

The new demo is as long as the current one, but it features a lot of new gameplay mechanics & UI elements we've been working on lately. It's not an early access release: we saved a large part of the content to prevent puny humans from playing Despot's Game for free before the actual launch😉.

We will talk about the differences between the upcoming demo and the full version of the game in detail in our future posts. Rest assured: they will be published more regularly from now on.

Here are the 7th season results!

Time to update the season!
This time, Bunsen05 beat Peterson, and for reliability he took the first two places. D'Spot respects your efforts, champions! In addition, Ronhul, Heimdallr and SOLЯR from 5th, 7th and 8th places can also receive the keys to Despotism 3k as a gift, as well as two of our champions, just write a private message to ShinShilo via steam.
It's cool that this time there are completely different teams at the top. It's even a pity that this whole idyll will be destroyed to hell on release!

For now, here's a tiny patch to give less popular classes a chance:
  • - Bomb Thrower Damage: 80/360 -> 120/410
  • - Throwers attack range: 5 -> 7
  • - HP bonus of the Plague mask: 338 -> 438
  • - Yellow Suit HP Bonus: 676 -> 876
  • - Medics evasion: cost 5/20 -> 5/15/25; chance 30/60 -> 25/50/75%

Despot's Game is like Teamfight Tactics except it's also a roguelike dungeon crawler

Roguelikes must be the perfect genre because it really does seem like you can combine it with any other genre and get something interesting. Case in point: Despot's Game, a roguelike autobattler where you build and manage a horde of naked humans that can be equipped with everything from pretzels to fridges. You then use that army to navigate a procedurally generated dungeon filled with monsters and, occasionally, other human players. The further you make it, the more wacky items you find to give to your soldiers, but when you die you lose all your progress and start over. I like roguelikes and I like Teamfight Tactics, so Despot's Game seems like a pretty safe bet...
