Hello, Frontiers,
It's Finally OUT! It is a month of Early Access Launch. We hope you had some chance to play several matches in DUBIUM(FYI, 1-2 matches aren't enough to understand the game)
Thank you for your interest in and support of DUBIUM. We want to look back at the first two weeks of DUBIUM and share our team's current thinking on gameplay and progress with you.
The Good
Global one serverIn 2021 & 2022, in 1st CBT and the demo test, we used to run three different regional servers. However, as we saw some players jumping into different servers to play together, to ease it down, we combined our server into one for players in other regions to play together easily and, of course, make it playable in every region!
In the first few days of the Early Access, our one server wasn't well, but thanks to the community's fast feedback and the dev team's response, the server's issue has now been solved. Moreover, to aid our one server system, we have a global chat(lobby chat) per language, and in the global chat, you can invite other players to play together!
Newbie-welcoming CommunityWe are always grateful to our community for being so welcoming and helping new players understand the unique gameplay of DUBIUM and for sharing different gameplay styles.
We can never forget the valuable feedback and discussions from you. We've carefully watched some other DUBIUM plays and studied your feedback to find out what you want from the unique gameplay experience from DUBIUM.
We welcome you into our community, and we (Claire & Simon) are always in Discord, so if you have any questions, come over to Discord anytime; devs or other players are always happy to hear from you!
Frontier BalanceWhile some Frontier characters are loved more than others, and there are differences in skill usage levels, we were happy to see that no Frontier's overall power level is not out of line with our goals!
Currently, we are not planning any immediate significant balance changes based on what we are seeing. However, we are considering an adjustment to Archie's gadget as we had many feedbacks regarding a wide range of usage. We'll continue looking at Frontier's performance and listening to player feedback before finalizing any changes to balances for the future.
The Bad
Progress in Battle Pass/ XP for mission failureEveryone progresses through the Frontier Pass simply by playing the game and completing daily missions that offer significant XP. We had many feedbacks about the "difficulty of the progression in the Frontier Pass" and "receiving no rewards upon failing the mission." The Frontier pass should be motivational and fun as you unlock rewards gradually as you play the game. However, instead of being motivated, players were grinding and grinding for rewards and the pass.
We are actively discussing reducing the difficulty of leveling the pass. Moreover, we plan to lower the difficulty of daily missions to ensure a more achievable and motivating gameplay experience than doing homework.
Regarding the feedback about no rewards and XP & Coins upon losing a game, we plan to introduce rewards for losses to make the gameplay more motivating and enjoyable. However, forfeiting the game midway will not grant any rewards to maintain fairness.
Some odds: Teaming, GriefingUnexpectedly we had spotted and heard stories of these players who were "Teaming" and "Griefing" and giving a bad experience to other players. We know some of you reported this before during the beta tests. It's not that we ignored the feedback; it's more like a developing issue of 'how do we need to approach this.
That's because, due to the various play styles in Dubium, it is difficult to apply the player reporting system to determine whether a player's actions were intentionally malicious or a survival tactic. For example, reporting a player who escaped alone while other players were doing missions would be debatable, as he was just doing selfish gameplay.
The Player Reporting System has been a prominent topic in your feedback, especially regarding players engaging in malicious behavior, spoiling the experience for others. We want to assure you that we are discussing player behavior and exploring methods to prevent such malicious actions. Implementing a reporting system is a complex task that requires careful development, and we also aim to ensure fair judgment and avoid penalizing players unjustly. Please share your stories and thoughts on what should be considered reportable play in DUBIUM. In the meanwhile, we have created a player report bot for the Discord community and a Google survey for our Steam community; if you'd like to report a play, please do so by clicking
Player Report Survey &
Discord.
The Ugly
A little bumpy road on Day 1, which is now resolved. Day 1 was a little bumpy due to some unexpected issues such as "Login Issues" and "Server being down." Thanks to the fast response for you and the team, we resolved the problem.
We thank you for understanding the day one situation and kindly waiting for us to maintain the issue.
Shouting matches; Being strategic vs. Abusing. We are always grateful to our Frontiers who enjoy the game and having fun betraying each other and working together as a team. However, recently we had some moments in the game and the community having a heated conversation about who did the right play or didn't do the right play. In DUBIUM, there are diverse tactics in how the game is played out. Some people would think it's a strategic move, or others would think it abusive or annoying to do that. We believe this could happen only if players were so into the gameplay and immersed in it. (Sorry, not sorry for making the very immersive game)
Rather than debating who is right or wrong, the best option is to share your stories with the mod, like Simon and Claireo aware of the situation, and we will be more than happy to help and discuss with you guys.
THANK YOU FOR WEEK TWO, AND HERE'S TO MANY MORE
