Frontier Analysis Report #05 - Sergei

“I’ll break any obstacles that get in my way. Maybe a neck or two.”

Name: Sergei Tulinov
Age: 45
Nationality: Russia
Former Job: Ex-pro wrestler

Personality Analysis (Extreme)

Sergei is a reserved and blunt individual with an impulsive nature. He may not be financially savvy, but his determination knows no bounds.

Desire Analysis:
Fame

Frontier Background Report:
Sergei was born into a poor family, and life had been tough from the beginning. At the age of eight, he lost his parents in a tragic car accident, leaving him with only his older brother. Despite their age difference, the brothers were close and relied on each other for support. But when his brother was selected for a scholarship program and sent to a prestigious school, Sergei was left behind and sent to a children's care facility. This separation was a significant turning point in their relationship, and they grew apart as they went on with their separate lives.

Living in the care facility, Sergei learned to be independent and self-reliant, but he felt lonely and unloved. He missed his brother and remembered the happy times they spent together, but his feelings for his brother became twisted and obsessive over time. Even when his brother did not show any interest in him, Sergei longed for his recognition and approval.

Despite the odds, Sergei discovered that he had an innate talent for athletics and strength. He was scouted by a sports institute and eventually the UFC. He believed that this would bring him closer to his brother, but his brother disapproved of his career choice, calling him a barbarian and uncivilized.

Sergei's life took another tragic turn when his child was diagnosed with leukemia, and he resorted to fixing matches to make more money to pay for the treatment. The decision led to his downfall, and he lost his arms in a brutal attack orchestrated by rival mafias. His family turned their backs on him, and he was left alone and broken, with no purpose or motivation to live.

But then something unexpected happened. Sergei's former cellmate helped him find a new purpose in life, and he discovered the Space Frontier. He became a space frontier, driven by the hope of finding someone who would love and care for him unconditionally.

Gadget Analysis:

Sergei's unique gadget, BombaX by injecting a synthetic Keystone substance into his body making him inevitable. It allows him to endure more hits and prevent ambushes from others for a short period. However, the aftereffect of BombX is that he becomes weakened for a short time. When things are going sideways and physical contact looks inevitable, Sergei can take the upper hand with a well-timed dose.

Early Access Patch Note 1.0.4
Hello, Frontiers 🫡
We are excited to bring you another update that includes important fixes and new content based on your valuable feedback from Steam and Discord after the Early Access launch.

In addition to the summarized patch note below, we would like to explain a bit more about some major updates which many of you gave feedback on. Please check below and if you have other questions or further opinions, please leave a comment below or let us know on Discord.
Major Updates Overview 📝
- BP & Daily Mission and XP for Mission Failure Adjustment🧗
We have adjusted the difficulty of the daily missions and changed the total XP amount to level up till Lv.10 making them more achievable and motivate you to play more. Additionally, with this update, players will be rewarded even if they lose(cannot escape from) the game. However, players who forfeit the game will not receive any rewards. We hope you enjoy stacking coins and leveling up your Frontier Pass.

- Asia Region Server & Match-making System Update🌍
We have added an Asia region server for players in Eastern regions to reduce latency in the game. Additionally, the match-making system now prioritizes players with similar ping environments for better matchmaking.

- ‘Party Code’ Invitation 🥳
If you’ve been looking for a team member (party member), you can play together even if you two are not friends on Steam. Play together with community members on Discord through ‘Party Code’

- Invincibility Rule Adjustment💪
Based on feedback from the community and streamers, we have made changes to the invincibility status after reviving as a Traitor. The previous invincibility status was deemed too overpowering for Traitors as some players used multiple Force Takedowns or Stealth kills in a row right after the revival. Now, the invincibility status will be deactivated if a Traitor uses Force Takedown or Stealth Kill.

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]
- Melee Attacks Update 🔪
We received feedback that melee weapons felt clunky and difficult to hit. To improve this, we have made two changes. First, the camera will no longer zoom in when using a melee weapon. Second, we have added a crosshair that turns red when the player is in the effective range of the weapon, helping players better understand the range.

Frontier Analysis Report #04 - Sobok

“Could you please go over there if you're going to help me? You're disturbing me right now.”

Name: Sobok ee
Age: 18
Nationality: South Korea
Former Job: Haenyeo (Female Diver)

Personality Analysis (Extreme)

Sobok is an individual who values efficiency and autonomy. She has strong perfectionist tendencies and exceptional concentration skills but can sometimes overwork herself. Sobok finds it challenging to connect with others and is resolute in their decisions, maintaining a cool head even in emergencies. She is an individual with strong convictions who don't let others sway their decisions.

Desire Analysis: Tracing Her Origin

Frontier Background Report:

Sobok's parents worked as researchers for Shadd's resource research HQ while also supporting an eco-friendly NGO called Blamane. However, trouble arose when Shadd demanded unethical research on keystones, causing a conflict between Sobok's parents and the company. As an internal spy for Blamane, they planned to expose Shadd's unethical research. However, when Shadd discovered their plans, they sent people to capture them, and Sobok's parents had to send her away to safety on Jeju Island.

As a child, Sobok was unaware that her parents had abandoned her until she discovered the truth. She made a promise to herself never to cherish those who abandon her, making her a stronger person. Despite feeling the limitations of not having a family, the people around her taught her about the bonds of love and family. Sobok learned to be a Heyneo (Sea diver) and found comfort and consolation in the ocean.

As a young adult, Sobok left Jeju Island to study oceanography and became a sea diver and researcher. She avoided socializing and remained alone due to her childhood experiences. One day, while working, she met an old friend of her parents and learned about they worked for Shadd.

Sobok left Korea and got a job at the Space Frontier to investigate Shadd's research on keystones. The CEO of the Space Frontier planned to use Sobok to gather information about Shadd's enterprise and keystones. Sobok journeyed alone into space, determined to find the truth about her parents' past and Shadd's unethical research.

"Like the dark sea, Sobok will go alone into the space station to uncover the truth."

Gadget Analysis:

Sobok's unique gadget Mulsoom allows her to go to areas where oxygen is scarce even in a toxic area filled with gas. While equipped, Mulsoom reduces the amount of oxygen used every second. It also works as a gas mask that can filter out hazardous chemicals. But, at the cost of some oxygen. Sobok can perform well under any pressure. Even when she is low on oxygen, she can maintain focus on her objectives. And toxic gas? That's just something she can take advantage of!

Frontier Analysis Report #03- Ryan

“We can become good friends if you don't overthink it.”

Name: Ryan Goldman
Age: 30
Nationality: United States
Former Job: Coroner

Personality Analysis (Extreme)

He is a typical white-collar psychopath who also happens to be a talented actor. He accepts his psychopathic tendencies and believes everyone hides their true selves. Ryan always appears confident and relaxed but secretly manipulates people and situations. He has an obsessive-compulsive disorder and wears gloves even when not working.

Desire Analysis:
More Thrill, Keystone, Show and prove in an extreme situation

Frontier Background Report:

Ryan, the son of a wealthy family, found life boring and mundane. Despite his wealth and privilege, he craved adventure and excitement. He was most fascinated by human stories and the different behaviors people could exhibit.

However, Ryan's disinterest in wealth and fame was influenced heavily by his family. His older brother was set to inherit the family business, and all trust and expectations were given only to him. Even when Ryan worked for the family business, he faced criticism.

Ryan had no reason to be involved in this dirty situation, but he learned that the truth didn't matter much - what mattered was how it was portrayed. To distance himself from his family, he became a coroner and began examining the reasons for a person's death. The thrill of a death scene excited him, and he loved the stories that the crime scene could tell.

But then, Ryan's brother asked him to change their eldest brother's allergy medication, which would effectively kill him. Ryan accepted the job out of curiosity and for the rewards he would receive from his brother. On the day of the funeral, Ryan realized that even an impotent and worthless person like his brother could become a boss, so why couldn't he? His curiosity was piqued, and he began to scheme.

Over time, Ryan slowly brought his brother into the abyss and inherited everything, but he declined his parents' offer to give him the inheritance, telling them to hold it for him.

One day, while at work, Ryan examined a man who had been stabbed multiple times and should have died. Shockingly, the man stood up and left on his own two feet. Ryan investigated and discovered that the man was a Space Frontier on a mission to deliver an object called a keystone. The more he delved into the case, the more he realized that he had stumbled upon something extraordinary. Ryan decided to go out and search for why it happened, as always seeking adventure and excitement.

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]

Gadget Analysis:
His unique gadget Necropsyco investigates and provides useful information about others. By analyzing any trace left by others, Ryan can collect useful information he may need. After finishing the inspection, the player can see the whereabouts of the person who left the trace for a short period. If Ryan manages to analyze meaningful traces, he may just discover who he needs to observe with a bit more attention.

Dev Log- June 2023: Two Weeks into Early Access

Hello, Frontiers,

It's Finally OUT! It is a month of Early Access Launch. We hope you had some chance to play several matches in DUBIUM(FYI, 1-2 matches aren't enough to understand the game)

Thank you for your interest in and support of DUBIUM. We want to look back at the first two weeks of DUBIUM and share our team's current thinking on gameplay and progress with you.
The Good
Global one server
In 2021 & 2022, in 1st CBT and the demo test, we used to run three different regional servers. However, as we saw some players jumping into different servers to play together, to ease it down, we combined our server into one for players in other regions to play together easily and, of course, make it playable in every region!
In the first few days of the Early Access, our one server wasn't well, but thanks to the community's fast feedback and the dev team's response, the server's issue has now been solved. Moreover, to aid our one server system, we have a global chat(lobby chat) per language, and in the global chat, you can invite other players to play together!

Newbie-welcoming Community
We are always grateful to our community for being so welcoming and helping new players understand the unique gameplay of DUBIUM and for sharing different gameplay styles.
We can never forget the valuable feedback and discussions from you. We've carefully watched some other DUBIUM plays and studied your feedback to find out what you want from the unique gameplay experience from DUBIUM.

We welcome you into our community, and we (Claire & Simon) are always in Discord, so if you have any questions, come over to Discord anytime; devs or other players are always happy to hear from you!

Frontier Balance
While some Frontier characters are loved more than others, and there are differences in skill usage levels, we were happy to see that no Frontier's overall power level is not out of line with our goals!
Currently, we are not planning any immediate significant balance changes based on what we are seeing. However, we are considering an adjustment to Archie's gadget as we had many feedbacks regarding a wide range of usage. We'll continue looking at Frontier's performance and listening to player feedback before finalizing any changes to balances for the future.
The Bad
Progress in Battle Pass/ XP for mission failure
Everyone progresses through the Frontier Pass simply by playing the game and completing daily missions that offer significant XP. We had many feedbacks about the "difficulty of the progression in the Frontier Pass" and "receiving no rewards upon failing the mission." The Frontier pass should be motivational and fun as you unlock rewards gradually as you play the game. However, instead of being motivated, players were grinding and grinding for rewards and the pass.

We are actively discussing reducing the difficulty of leveling the pass. Moreover, we plan to lower the difficulty of daily missions to ensure a more achievable and motivating gameplay experience than doing homework.

Regarding the feedback about no rewards and XP & Coins upon losing a game, we plan to introduce rewards for losses to make the gameplay more motivating and enjoyable. However, forfeiting the game midway will not grant any rewards to maintain fairness.

Some odds: Teaming, Griefing
Unexpectedly we had spotted and heard stories of these players who were "Teaming" and "Griefing" and giving a bad experience to other players. We know some of you reported this before during the beta tests. It's not that we ignored the feedback; it's more like a developing issue of 'how do we need to approach this.
That's because, due to the various play styles in Dubium, it is difficult to apply the player reporting system to determine whether a player's actions were intentionally malicious or a survival tactic. For example, reporting a player who escaped alone while other players were doing missions would be debatable, as he was just doing selfish gameplay.
The Player Reporting System has been a prominent topic in your feedback, especially regarding players engaging in malicious behavior, spoiling the experience for others. We want to assure you that we are discussing player behavior and exploring methods to prevent such malicious actions. Implementing a reporting system is a complex task that requires careful development, and we also aim to ensure fair judgment and avoid penalizing players unjustly. Please share your stories and thoughts on what should be considered reportable play in DUBIUM. In the meanwhile, we have created a player report bot for the Discord community and a Google survey for our Steam community; if you'd like to report a play, please do so by clicking Player Report Survey & Discord.
The Ugly
A little bumpy road on Day 1, which is now resolved.
Day 1 was a little bumpy due to some unexpected issues such as "Login Issues" and "Server being down." Thanks to the fast response for you and the team, we resolved the problem.
We thank you for understanding the day one situation and kindly waiting for us to maintain the issue.

Shouting matches; Being strategic vs. Abusing.
We are always grateful to our Frontiers who enjoy the game and having fun betraying each other and working together as a team. However, recently we had some moments in the game and the community having a heated conversation about who did the right play or didn't do the right play. In DUBIUM, there are diverse tactics in how the game is played out. Some people would think it's a strategic move, or others would think it abusive or annoying to do that. We believe this could happen only if players were so into the gameplay and immersed in it. (Sorry, not sorry for making the very immersive game)
Rather than debating who is right or wrong, the best option is to share your stories with the mod, like Simon and Claireo aware of the situation, and we will be more than happy to help and discuss with you guys.
THANK YOU FOR WEEK TWO, AND HERE'S TO MANY MORE
We thank all the players who participated in the first two weeks of DUBIUM. This period has been filled with excitement for the community and our team. Still, it has also presented us with numerous challenges we seek to solve quickly. We always appreciate and welcome your feedback as we will continue to listen and respond to you by making DUBIUM more enjoyable to play.
In the upcoming weeks, we will be sharing more information about the future of DUBIUM through a roadmap. Meanwhile, we hope everyone is thoroughly enjoying the thrill of DUBIUM. If you have any questions or feedback, please leave them in the comments below or on DISCORD.

Thank you, and see you soon!
