Retro News

Retro is now only $1!

[p]Hello everyone![/p][p][/p][p]It's been a couple of years since the last update. I wanted to let you all know what the future of Retro looks like.[/p][p][/p][p]I've been busy finishing my college degree and working on other projects. So, it's unlikely Retro will be receiving any updates in the future. However, if you find a bug, feel free to send me an email or message and I'll try to put out a fix.[/p][p][/p][p]As my skills have improved I've realized I have been charging too much for Retro. I think it's only fair that I make the game $1 USD (the lowest Steam will let me make it), especially because it won't be receiving further updates short of bugfixes. To celebrate, the game will be 50% off starting tomorrow, January 6th 2025, and I'll schedule deep sales often.[/p][p][/p][p]I'm not done with game development, in fact quite the opposite. I have a project in the works significantly more ambitious than Retro, so hopefully that will be finished soon. I'll post an update when it comes out.[/p][p][/p][p]Thank you to everyone who has played. I hope you're all doing well.[/p]

Retro October 20 Update

Fixed a bug where the "corruption" stage of the story mode wouldn't let the player progress when they hit the score requirement.

Have a great day!

Retro October 16, 2021 Update

Hey everyone!

I made a couple of changes to Retro recently, here it is!

Difficulty changes
  • Helicopters in Dogfight now have less health
  • Decreased the point requirement to progress from Ball Protectors in story mode to 100

Gameplay changes
  • If two bullets collide in Dogfight, they will both be destroyed

Bugfixes
  • Fixed an issue where a distortion effect wasn't applied in the intro of the story
  • Fixed an issue where the player won't be told when they can progress during the "corruption" portion of the story

And a lot of optimization updates
I went through nearly all of the code in the game and revised it to be a bit more performance-friendly.

Thanks
Thanks for playing Retro! I'll talk to everyone later!

-Matthew

I've been working on my next game! You can follow my progress on Twitter.

The music update has finally arrived!

Hey everyone, it's Matthew.

Music Update history
Back in September of 2020, I promised an update for all of the music in Retro. The main menu music was replaced when I announced it and I was working on replacing or updating some music. For the time being, I temporarily replaced some music with the songs I was more proud of.

Fast forward to April of 2021, I canceled the music update. I've been busy with school, work, and working on my next game so I just didn't have the time to work on Retro.

Recently, I revived the music update and here it is! To kick off the update, Retro will be 80% off for 2 weeks (starting tomorrow, Steam wouldn't let me start it today for some reason)!

Changes in this update:
  • 2 new songs: Hired Guns and Carbon. These are used for Zombies and Ball Protectors.
  • All arcade songs have been updated.
  • The soundtrack has been updated with these new songs.
  • Fixed a bug that allowed objects to appear before the player was supposed to be able to see them.
  • Minor optimization improvements.

Come talk to me!
If you run into any bugs, want to ask me questions, or just want to chat, please email me at [email protected] or shoot me a DM on Twitter! I'd be more than happy to chat!

Love yourself
These past couple of years have been rough for everyone. I know it's super easy to feel bad right now and be upset with the general state of the world. I just want to say that I'm super proud of each and every one of you for persevering through this time. I really hope you are in a good mental state as it is extremely important to stay positive in a time like this. But most importantly: love yourself, even if you don't feel like loving yourself. If that's hard for you, please reach out to someone who can help. I really want everyone to be happy so don't be afraid to ask for help.

Thank you and talk to you later!
I can't thank everyone who has played Retro enough. You all really mean so much to me and I am so thankful for all of you. I really hope you have a fantastic day and I'll talk to everyone again when I release the settings update!

P.S. I've been working hard on my next game. You can see more about it and check out my progress on Twitter.

Retro April 26, 2021 Update and Announcement

Hey everyone! It's been a while. I've been busy working on my next game (you can check out my progress on my Twitter).

I got word about some bugs in the game, so I took some time and fixed them.

If you run into any more bugs, please email me at [email protected] and I will get on it as soon as I can! Please tell me what the bug does and how it can be recreated so I can fix it. You can also email me about anything else, I'd love to chat!

I can't believe it has already been over a year since I released Retro! It feels like I just released it last week. Since the launch, I've been busy working on a couple of different game ideas. I've worked on about six different game idea and gotten to a playable version for a couple of them. However, I lost interest in each of them but I think the project I've been working on for a couple of months now is something really unique and I'm pretty confident I will finish it! So, keep an eye out for that!

Because I'm already busy with my other game and other stuff, I'm not sure I will be able to get the music update finished any time soon, if at all. I do want to get it finished but don't get your hopes up. Sorry again.

Now to the changes in this update:

  • Fixed a bug that caused the boss fight to be unbeatable. Sorry to anyone who wasn't able to beat the game because of this.
  • The player can no longer go off of the screen on the boss fight (I have no idea how this happened, but it's fixed now).
  • Cleaned up some unnecessary objects in various mini-games.
  • Minor optimization improvements.

I hope you have a great day and I'll talk to everyone again soon!
-Matthew
