What's New in Version 0.5.3

While we're working on big new features like an interactive tutorial, we've been making many more improvements and fixes to the game. This quick update has a few things that can make it easier to play over screen sharing with friends, and some options to help out new players.

We're aware there was a server problem with the in-game feedback system recently, but it should be better now. If it's not working when you try sending feedback, you can still reach us via our contact page.

When sending in feedback, please take a look first at our status Trello board to see if it's already on the list. For gameplay issues, check the official FAQ to make sure it's really a bug, and not a misunderstanding.

Interactions:
  • Added several options for reducing the difficulty of the game: bonus Spirit growth, omitting initial Explore, and unlimited undo.
  • There's now a confirmation when choosing a deck to gain a power card from.
  • You can now move the map using arrow or WASD keys.

Information Display:
  • Improved 3D Presence tokens with unique icons and adjusted textures.
  • Right click boards in the New Game screen to view them in full.
  • Added an option to show land numbers on the island boards. This can make it easier to make plans with other players over screen sharing!

Audio:
  • The in-game music has been expanded.
  • More sound effects have been added and updated.

Bug Fixes:
  • Tidal Boon now allows you to select inland lands with Ocean's Presence (added by Indomitable Claim).
  • Fixed a problem where at the start of Guard the Isle's Heart, too many icons showing the inner lands were shown.
  • Mists of Oblivion no longer incorrectly generates fear from destroying Explorers.

Lots of improvements are underway, both small and large. Stay tuned for additional big features like an interactive tutorial, card library screen, Steam achievements, and much more. The England adversary will be added as well. See the store page description for the full list of major items.

What's New in Version 0.5.1

Spirit Island has been out in Early Access for just two days and we are overjoyed with the response! We have received a mountain of great feedback from you already. Rest assured if you sent an email we will get back to you, but it might take a few days!

We're quite happy that most of the feedback has been about suggestions, not bugs. We're proud of the work our developers have done and grateful to our excellent squad of beta testers.

This quick update has a few improvements and fixes for some notable bugs that affected a few players.

Improvements:
  • We figured out how to keep the Invader pieces upright without their plastic bases. Thanks to those who suggested trying that!
  • Cities and Towns are now easier to distinguish between in the 3D map.
  • Added an indicator showing the number of cards left in your Power Progression deck. Click it to view the cards coming up in order.
  • The Power Progression toggle in the new game screen (when right clicking a Spirit) has been moved to the top right and made easier to see.
  • Improved animation for gaining power cards from power progression or the start of the game.
  • Clarified that the "intro game" is not a tutorial. We will be adding a proper interactive tutorial to the game over the course of Early Access.

Bug Fixes:
  • Fixed an issue where Quick Play could occasionally cause a freeze.
  • Gaining all your cards from Power Progression can no longer lead to gaining duplicate cards.
  • Fixed a problem with Bringer of Dreams and Nightmares where damage caused by Dahan Insurrection was not handled correctly.
  • Fixed an issue where the number of card plays this turn could display incorrectly in Guard the Isle's Heart.
  • Fixed an error in end game score calculation.

Spirit Island is now Available!

Spirit Island is now available in Steam Early Access - and it's 15% off for launch week!

The first Early Access release allows you to play full games with 1-4 Spirits. Most of the content of the core game of Spirit Island is implemented and playable: all Spirits, Power cards, Scenarios, and 2 Adversaries.

Spirit Island is under active development and will be updated regularly. You can think of Early Access as a step between Beta and Retail release. There will be bugs, and some content is currently not available, but the game is much further along than what you might see in a Public Beta (See Steam's Early Access FAQ for more).

Over the next several months, we will continue to add features and content to the game ahead of its official retail launch later this year. Still to come:
  • Interactive tutorial
  • More animations and visual effects
  • Extended music and sound effects
  • Card library screen
  • England adversary
  • Thematic island boards
  • Steam Achievements

One of the most important aspects of Early Access is hearing from you, the players. You can send feedback (suggestions or bug reports) directly in-game. We will directly respond to players who send feedback, and take all feedback into consideration during development. We have a public Trello board where you can keep tabs on our development progress, and we welcome discussions on the Steam community forum & our Discord.
