Tales from the dev side #6

Hey again!

Another week passed by, a bunch of new cool game features have been implemented, and we're up for a little bugfixing/stabilizing/polishing period. Expect some cool screenshots coming up!

Until then, enjoy the weekend together with Cupcake, the not-so-deadly prison guard Orc :-)
(and also, get a glimpse of our development environment!)

Tales from the dev side #5

Yooohoooo! Back again! NO, we're not dead, and YES, we are still developing the game!

I'm not entirely sure about what to blame regarding taking so long to write this update. Corona? Yeah why not! Corona made us (not) do it!

Anyway, what has happened since last post, dated 13th of November, in the year of Our Lord 2020? Actually, I have only some vague memories of those days.. Ohhh, right - I recall we had spoken about some release date in the end of that year? Haha! How young and naive we were back then !

We thought that we knew how to do this properly. After all, we weren't that young - all of us had already made tons of mistakes before we started the journey with Sir WhoopAss, and had learned from them. Our combined pile of mistakes and stupid things we'd done would have been SO HUGE!

So, we weren't going to fall into those old traps again. No sir, we would show the world how to develop games properly, planning and scheduling. Reaching project sub-goals, fulfilling requirements, planning the .. uh... planning? Requiring the fulfilling. And SCRUM.

Then, all of a sudden - it hit us. It came from nowhere. Yes, I'm talking about the DEADLINE. Like a Japanese mega-high speed train transporting rocks, and lead, and gold bricks, it just hit us, right in our faces. SMACK!

It's not like we didn't see it coming! Noo, we knew it was there, lurking.. It was more like that scene from Monty Python and the Holy Grail, when Sir Lancelot are running towards the guards at the Swamp Castle, remember? The guards saw him, running towards them.. Over and over again. But he was so far away so they didn't really care, until BAM - he was there, killing them instantly! (maybe someone can provide a good YT link to what I'm talking about ? Come on, SWA community!)

BUT - that was then. That was the OLD deadline. Now, we have a new, mega secret, deadline. None shall know of this new deadline of ours. But this time, it won't catch us. We have learned from our mistakes. We're going to plan, and schedule. Fulfill requirements, reach sub-goals. SCRUM and KANBAN. Oh yes. The deadline won't stand a chance this time.

--- Oh my god. Did I write all that crap? Sorry!
Well, anyways, we are still developing the game :-) And will honestly try to keep posting random garbage like this, and some other stuff, somewhat regularly, towards The Release.

Until next time, feast your hungry eyes upon this unique image of "Sky City" - the home of The Immortal!

Tales from the dev side #4

At various places in Evergreen Valley, different shrines can be found.

A shrine can be entered, and it usually requires some task, mini-game or quest to be completed, which can be rewarded with some improved ability.

This one shrine is called "The Shrine of Cling", and is for the moment located between Wizards Peak and Stonedale. That is - until someone of the "sweaty developers" decides to put it elsewhere. :-D

And yeah, right ... We haven't actually shared any map with you guys yet, so it's kind of much to ask of you to know of any of these locations, isn't it? Yes it is. Well, stay tuned! One of these days a map might pop up here too, if we're lucky :)

So, right now we are working on Evergreen Valley, a.k.a. The Overworld.
It's nice to see some sunlight after all. D-vitamin .. it's hard to come by this time of the year! At least here in northern (ok, middle) Sweden.

Not much else to do during these dark hours, than to develop some Whoopass game, right ?!
Right !! :-D

Tales from the dev side #3

- "Ah so.

After fumbling through that maze in near-complete darkness, THIS is what's next.

A dilapidated old bridge, brimmed with all kinds of drooling, insane Orcs - whose only desire right now is to strike their rusty blades through my whoopass armour.

And on top of that, some kind of horrifying, gigantic hammers swinging back and forth across the bridge.

"This way", she said... "This way".

Yeah, thanks a bunch for the guidance, Lucy. We'll talk more about this later.
I hope.

Crap."

Tales from the dev side #2

Hello all!

The journey with Sir Whoopass continues, and in this column we'll try to publish some insights from the development of the game on a somewhat regular basis.

This week we have gotten a scheduled appointment with one of the characters in the game - a fire casting shaman, "Keith"! (the quotes will get an explanation below)

We were very excited to have succeeded in getting some room in his busy calendar, and we had prepared some questions for him. Maybe the interview did not go perfectly well.. And it's a little bit long. But anyway, it's included below for you all! Enjoy!

------------------------8

I = Interviewer, S = Fire casting shaman

I: Hello there!
S: Hi.

I: So, you are a fire casting shaman, from what I've been told?
S: That's correct.

I: What's your name?
S: You can call me Keith.

I: ...So your name is Keith? Is that a common fire casting shaman name?
S: No it's not my real name. But I'd like to call myself that, to honor Keith Flint. You know, the guy in The Prodigy(tm). God bless his soul.

I: I see! The Prodigy(tm) - do you like their music?
S: Oh yes. Firestarter is my favourite song.

I: Ah - so ---
S: And Ring of fire, by Johnny Cash. That's a good one too.

I: ..Ok. Yes that's a nice song. But now - let's talk about the game! Sir Whoopass - Immortal Death! Can you tell us something about your part in the game?
S: Naah. I really don't want to talk about the game.

I: Ehh, what? You don't want to talk about the game?
S: No. Quite frankly, I'm kind of tired of talking about it - I've done interviews all week about it, man.. Let's talk about something else, or I'm outta here.

I: ...uh... But .. We are here to get some information about the game.. That's the whole point?
S: Sorry man, pick something else to ask about.

I: Hmm. Ok. So... Uh... Do you.. Have any role models?
S: - Yeah! The Human Torch! You know, the guy from the Fantasic Four? He's really cool.

I: Ah, yes I remember him.. The burning guy, right? He's cool, yeah.. Uhm..
S: Totally - can you imagine, being able to actually generate fire - from your own body? How cool is that??

I: ..Uh, yeah.. But, you can do that too, right? Generate fire, being a fire casting shaman and all?
S: Yeah I know!! HAHA! - But, can YOU image that? HAHAHAHAHA...

I: ... haha.. uh.. I guess it would be cool...
S: ...HAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHA.. (Here, "Keith" starts to shoot fire balls around)

I: Maybe we should end the interview here.
S: *woosh* *wooosh* ..HAHAHAAHAHHAHAH!! *woosh*

I: I'm leaving now. Thanks for the talk.
S: HAHAAHAAHAHAH!! *wooosh* *woosh*
