Development news and new content

Greetings arcade racers!


A lot of the required features are now implemented in Total Arcade Racing which has given us the chance to focus on adding more content. Since the last news update we've added 3 new courses, 1 car and 1 new game mode. Mac support has become a more frequent request and since v0.7.3 you can enjoy Mac support through Steam. Thank you all for the feedback and suggestions for Total Arcade Racing, keep it coming and we'll try our best to deliver on it.

[h2]Latest updates[/h2]
Since the last news post we've released 9 updates. Here are some of the highlights in the updates.

New course - Suburbia
Inspired by the car mats you had as a kid we created a course with a suburb style. Here is a short clip of how it was made.



New course - Mishap Station
Ever since we added the train crossing in Endless mode, we wanted to create a level with a train in it. After a lot of experimenting, we created Mishap Station where you can optionally drive on the train track but most of the time it's a really bad idea.



New course - Bridgeton
A fast-paced course with a lot of twists and bends. Fits the new F1 inspired car perfectly.



New car
A new F1 inspired car has been added with very little drift and massive acceleration. This is a perfect choice on narrow courses with a lot of turns and bends.



Delivery game mode
Inspired by capture the flag style gameplay you need to pickup a box and bring it to the delivery zone as fast as possible. Other players can steal your box by hitting it! Currently this is a multiplayer only game mode but maybe we should add single player and a Hall of fame leaderboard to this mode also?

* Improved: When a multiplayer race starts the sound of the car engines is a bit too loud during the count down.
* Improved: Added a next championship button if you manage to win the championship you are in. Makes it easier for people to keep racing.
* Improved: Replaced "Race again?" text in Championship mode with more information on how many races are left.

* Fixed bug: If no gamepad is plugged it shows A next to next course when you complete a Time Trial race.

v0.7.4
* New Course added: Bridgeton

* Improved: Improved AI in Destruction Derby and made it more interesting to play against.
* Improved: Added a max limit to how far behind you can be from the leader in Elimination mode before you get eliminated. This prevents dragged out races if the last 2 cars are driving very slowly.
* Improved: Ghost cars fade in when a race starts.

* Fixed bug: Some road sprites didn't have a perfect pixel match causing tiny edges to appear.

v0.7.3
* Published Mac build on Steam

* New feature: Added steering assist with the option to disable it in settings.

* Improved: Added Fast Forward feature to Destruction Derby & Elimination. This allows you to fast forward when only the AI remains.

* Fixed bug: On screens that do not use aspect ratio16:9 there is a bug in Unity that causes issues with UI remaning on screen edges. We've added a workaround for this so it clears the screen border.
* Fixed bug: In Demolition Derby car outlines was showing all the time.
* Fixed bug: Roadster was allowed in AM championships.

v0.7.2
* New F1 inspired car added..

* Improved: Tweaked car values.
* Improved: Slightly improved handling for cars. Making it easier to make tiny adjustments while you drive.

* Fixed bug: Start position of Pace cars was not correct on Mishap station.
* Fixed bug: Leaderboard cannot handle introduction of new cars. This happens if the user has a version that does not include a new car.

v0.7.1
* New Course added: Mishap Station.

* Improved: Rail road crossing signals are now elevated so you cannot collide with them.
* Improved: Reduced AI wobbling when passing other cars.
* Improved: The respawn feature used if you get hit by a train or drive into water will now respawn the car in the direction it should be driving in.
* Improved: Added more flags.
* Improved: Tweaked course times to get 3 stars.
* Improved: Increased the starts required to unlock Lambo with 1.

* Fixed bug: Cars do not respawn after train crashes.
* Fixed bug: If a time trial course doesn't contain any Hall of fame entries then starts are not shown just the leaderboard.

v0.7.0
* New feature: Added option to disable gamepad vibrations.

* Improved: Improved the initial car acceleration so it would feel less stuck when you hit the accelerator.
* Improved: Added more flags to country selection.

* Fixed bug: If you let go of the accelerator and hit grass your car will stop almost instantly.
* Fixed bug: If you drive into the water then you're car will be more sluggish to turn when it respawns.
* Fixed bug: Fast forward causes some tiny issues with the AI driving ability.

Championship mode is finally here

We hope you all had a nice start to 2021. At Pretty Fly Games we've had a flying start and have been pushing out lots of updates for Total Arcade Racing. One of the core features that we planned a long time ago is Championship mode, where you would race across a few courses with either your friends or with AI, and now it's finally here!

Since the last news post we've released 11 updates. Here are some of the highlights in the updates.

Nitro Boosters
The booster areas in the game were a fun feature but it felt quite limiting in a way. So, we replaced them with a nitro booster that charges as you drive. When you are ready just hit that X button, just make sure it's a good spot. Nitro boosters also works in other game modes where it can give you a nice boost and lets you make better shots in Hockey or get out of tricky situations in Survival.



Championship mode
Race against your friends or just he AI and beat the other drivers. You need to be on your toes during all course to win. If you reach that #1 in total standings, then you'll unlock next course and the AI difficulity increases with each championship. Championship mode comes with its own Hall of fame.



Improved AI
To really give a challenge in championship mode we had to improve the AI drivers a lot. In custom race mode you can set the AI difficulty level but in championship mode it gets harder in PRO races.

Fast forward
In championship mode you need to wait for 20 seconds when you finish to give those other slower drivers a chance to reach the standing leaderboard. If you are racing on your own it quickly becomes a bit boring. Now you can fast forward by holding down Y once you've completed the race.

* New feature: While waiting for the AI to finish a championship race you can now fast forward by pressing Y on your controller.

* Improved: Added background to locked championship name to increase readability.

* Improved: Set a max time for how long the ai will chase the player. After a while they'll give up.

* Fixed bug: First time you come into a scene and hit pause the mouse cursor doesn't show on PC.
* Fixed bug: Changes to Hall of fame broke Endless and Survivor mode.
* Fixed bug: In Endless mode AI cars was driving at max speed all the time.

* New Feature: Leaderboard (Hall of fame) support for Championships.
* Improved: Added more flags to country selection.
* Fixed bug: If you place #1 on a leaderboard but you're not using Steam then the leaderboard will be empty.

* New feature: Player is required to unlock championships.
* Improved: Tweaked values of some cars.
* Improved: Player has the same limitation as AI in championships. PRO cups allow all cars, AM cups do not.
* Improved: Added ability to cycle Hall of fame with shoulder gamepad buttons.
* Improved: Tweaked AI paths a bit.

* Fixed bug: On car unlock dialog, selecting no on Gamepad (Press B) still selects the new car.
* Fixed bug: When AI falls into the water they change color to the same color as the player.

* New Feature: The medal you've earned is displayed in the championship selection UI.

* Fixed bug: Main menu music started twice causing it to sound a bit glitched.

* Added a new Cup.
* New feature: Rubber banding added. Each player behind the first position gets a faster Nitro booster recharge to make it easier for them to catch up.
* New Feature: ability to set AI skill level 10-100% i custom race.

* Improved: AI cars will try to pick a color which no other car has.
* Improved: AI selects cars in championship mode based on difficulty of the cup.
* Improved: Reduced speed penalty of grass surface.
* Improved: Opponent car slowly fades out while counting down to avoid a instant shift to pace car in time trial.
* Improved: Fine tuned AI a bit more making it slamming less into walls at lower skill levels.
* Improved: Name of championship is added to win screen when you complete it.

* Improved: Changed how select game mode works. Instead of picking single player or multiplayer you get to pick the game mode. Most game modes can be played in either single player or multiplayer mode, which made it less apparent that you could play Elimination with AI as an example.
* Improved: Integrated more games more into new background.
* Improved: Changed order of buttons in Hall of fame. Next, Previous swapped places to make it more logical.

* Fixed bug: Offroad sound effect was not played while driving on grass anymore.
* Fixed bug: When selecting Car Hockey, the text 2 Players required remains even in the other game modes.

Hi arcade racers!


Sorry... its been slightly over 1 month since our last news update and that's a bit too long in our opinion. However, we've been super busy with the game and have added a lot of content (new course, new game mode and a long list of improvements). But first of all, we've changed studio name, say hello to...

[h2]Pretty Fly Games[/h2]



Long story short, our old studio name CasualGames.nu, was rather limiting and well plain old. So we wanted something that represents the games we work now, which are pretty fly :)

Since the last news post we've released 8 updates. Here are some of the highlights in the updates.

New Course - Concrete Island
To continue the Harbor course we've added a similar course but with a twist. There are fire posts and if you hit them, they'll start spraying water which might push you into the water.



Improved menu graphics
We've replaced the menu with a new fresh version where the AI zips around random courses. The logo for Total Arcade Racing also received a face lift.



New game mode - Elimination
In Elimination the rules are simple, each lap the player who is last will be eliminated. Don't be last.



[h2]Price increase[/h2]
When we launched the Early Access version, we said that the price would periodically increase with new releases. We're now at version 0.6.0 and we've added a bunch of stuff since the last price increase in v0.4.6. Therefor the price will be increased to 6.99$ on Friday the 11th of December. If you haven't already grabbed a copy at 5.99$ then make sure that you do it now.

* Improvement: Hiding mouse cursor if the player is using a gamepad. Mouse cursor gets enabled again if the player starts using the mouse.
* Fixed bug: Esc button no longer pauses the game if you had gamepads attached.
* Fixed bug: Car color selection was skipped in single player if you use the keyboard to select a car.
* Fixed bug: If you back out of car color selection with the back button on joypad it will navigate back to game mode selection instead of move to car selection.
* Fixed bug: In multiplayer you can only back out of selection with gamepad 1.

* Improved: CPU players will also show their position each time they make a new lap and not only when they've completed a race.
* Improved: Certain game modes requires certain number of players before they'll start. Made that more clear in the car selection stage.
* Fixed bug: Player crashing into other players in local player could cause cars to blow up in modes where they were not supposed to blow up.
* Fixed bug: Missing Win SFX in Demolition Derby and Survivor game modes.
* Fixed bug: In harbor level AI thinks it's stuck when lifted out of the water so it will attempt to reverse and ends up in the water again.
* Fixed bug: If you flip the AI cars switch and do not have enough players it will start a race anyway with just 1 player. Fixed by removing the AI on/off setting once the countdown starts.
