Dear gamers, thank you for wishlisting my game! I have decided to bring the launch date forward from the 16th of April to the 27th of March because I am bored of waiting for my game to launch. I figure this move will get the game into people's hands earlier at the expense of maybe a few more wishlists. Meh. Just play it. Do the levels. Try the speed run mode. Give some feedback. Have fun.

Important note: My game is designed for 9:16 portrait mode. If I made the screen area bigger monsters would behave differently and the player would be able to see way too far ahead making the game too easy. Now, I realize that most PC gamers have a landscape screen. All this means is that there will be black boxes on the sides just like when you're running an old retro game designed for a TV or something. I actually don't mind those black boxes - you soon forget about them when you're in the game. I have decided not to put in bezel art at this stage as I don't want the distraction and also I don't know how I would go about implementing it.

With that small note aside, I really look forward to people playing and enjoying my game. I have put in around 2 and a half years of work to get this far and I'm proud of what I have achieved. I hope you'll give it a go, support indie development and enjoy it. There should be something there for everyone - and for those who want a challenge, please clock my game. I challenge you to just finish all of the levels, and if you can do that, find all of the secrets and get all of the achievements. Good luck, have fun.

25 Steam achievements have been added to 99 Anime Girls in preparation for launch.

The 25 achievements come in addition to 36 in-game achievements already present. In-game achievements consist of 12 main categories (Adventurer, Explorer, Defender etc) with bronze, silver and gold "kamon" or Japanese seals in each category.

The 25 new Steam achievements include 5 hidden achievements. There is a good mix of easy to get and difficult achievements that should keep the hunters busy. Good luck getting them all!

In this pre-release update I want to talk a little about what type or genre of game 99 Anime Girls is. This will hopefully help you decide if it is the type of game you're interested in playing.

First up the main genre is "platformer/runner". I would say about 70% of the game is this. The characters run automatically and you control their other actions - primarily jump, I wouldn't label it an "endless runner" though. The levels are hand-crafted and not randomly generated. As the game controls the running for you it is not your standard 2D platformer like "Braid" or "Super Meat Boy". It's different in that the parts that you control are fewer, but it is nonetheless challenging because the levels have been designed with this in mind. There are also several boss fights and puzzles within the platform levels. The puzzles mostly revolve around pushing boxes, but there are a few levels where you'll have to think a little to get past them.

The other roughly 30% of the game play consists of mini-games, chat and a few RPG elements. There are two main mini-games and a lucky chest scene. The first mini-game is a monster battle which involves clicking to attack and holding right mouse button to block. This is a simple "action/clicker". The card game mini-game is also simple, the players and enemies are dealt cards and choose which card to play with the highest card winning the trick, best 2 of 3. The strategy comes in the form of the enemies who play their cards differently - so you have to work out what strategy they are using and counter that. The "chat to the girls" feature reading text and at times making decisions. There are also events within the chats where you can get gold or other items and equipment. The RPG elements come in the form of weapons and accessories that you can find (by chatting and through lucky chests) and equip. These weapons and accessories boost your attack, luck or defense stats. The attack and defense stats come into play in the battle mini-game and the luck stat comes into play in the cards mini-game (as well as a few other secret places). A lot of knowledge about the mini-games can be gleaned from chatting with the girls as some of them have special areas of expertise.

I should mention here that this is not a "hentai" game despite the suggestive name. In some of the CG the girls do wear some suggestive attire but that is about as far as it goes.

So in summary my game is a platform/action/puzzle/runner with a few RPG elements! Everything ties together quite well though, so it's not as crazy as it sounds. Dear gamers, thank you for considering my upcoming game "99 Anime Girls". This is a brief update of where things are currently at and some of my thoughts and to do's.

The game is set for a mid-April release. I am currently testing some of the latter levels and fixing up small bugs where I find them, but everything is looking great! My main focus now is marketing and promotion and first up I would really like to make a new game trailer as I realize the current one is not that great! I feel like my video editing skills are quite lacking being a one-man indie. Therefore if anyone has the ability to make a cool game trailer and wants to help me, please message me, otherwise I'll just do my best and try and make another one.

Also, if I have time I would also like to implement some steam specific features such as leader boards, achievements etc. While my game already has those it would be nice to link them to the steam infrastructure.
