The Unusual Village Contest



Hello all!
Just doing a minor update (I'm still working on some surprises for the future!) but I thought it could be fun to do an unusual village competition!

As you well know, Kainga is a pretty weird game, so let's celebrate that weirdness with a competition! I've spiced up this post with some past creative examples for a bit of inspiration. I'm excited to see what you come up with!

[h2]Competition Ground Rules:[/h2]

  1. Villages don't have to be large, efficient or successful, just unique looking!
  2. You can use any map, any Thinker, any technology!
  3. You can submit more than one village!
  4. It would be nice if you named the town as well
  5. Submit your entry sometime between now and October 31sr, 2023
  6. Submit images to the #share-your-village channel on Discord or directly to me at [email protected]
  7. Selection will occur on Discord on November 5th

[h2]Tips for Taking Good Screenshots[/h2]

  1. In game, press "V" to remove the hud for a seamless image
  2. Use the mouse wheel click to get a lower angle that looks really nice!
  3. Holding CTRL will allow you to move the camera without it automatically changing its height
  4. Take a picture of the village's most interesting part! Not the widest shot :)

I'm excited to see what creations you come up with! The winner will get access to a copy of the Collectors Edition of Kainga, which includes an artbook and the soundtrack, as well as the glory of being the fanciest architect in the wild lands of Kainga!

[h2]Update Notes[/h2]

There was a small update as well, which covered a few things, here's the list:

Patch 1.1.06
Changes:
- Added Russian translations (thanks to community translations!)
- Added a small chance for AI to spawn with a beast even without a beastmaster
- Added a small hitch in movement when getting hit
- Worked on command issues so AI will not get distracted when commanding them
- Balloons can now pop when damaged!
- You can no longer have more than 42 technologies

Fixes:
- Changed the Beast Lure description to include that it tames beasts
- Fixed the loud noise that appeared on geyser maps on loading
- Fixed the drought modifier on the Pebbles
- Fixed the Thatched Multi-Storey House’s bonus (Combat Ready)
- A Gosanke house won’t spawn at the center of high-tide Edges
- The “New Town” event now activates as it should have been
- Karamana houseboats will properly reduce your pop cap when exiting
- Fixed some floating cactus in the Terraces

Patch 1.1.02



Just doing a routine bug-fixing session to fix some problems the community has come up with. The biggest of which was some problems with boats on unusual water heights. Also, some changes for Serrano's B-Side.

Patch 1.1.02


[h3]Changes:[/h3]
- Mushroom houses can now only be placed on mud
- Added some behind the scenes passives to the encyclopedia
- Kala and Jeera B’s spike ring will only appear once the campfire is built
- Serrano B can now only memorize festivals, but recall them one at a time
- Added a setting to disable events

[h3]Fixes:[/h3]
- AI wells will no longer collapse after their civilization is destroyed
- AI will no longer fish in acid water
- Mushroom farms can now be placed East and West as intended
- Mushroom houses have protection information and allow for docks and barracks properly
- Sumac and Serrano B-side passive techs can be unlocked as expected
- The Firelance and Whitebarrel Caserns now appear in the encyclopedia
- All buildings now have the correct B-Side selection color
- Caged Thinkers have the correct selection color when your Thinker is B-Side
- Houses with attachments that were destroyed properly don’t require food again with the Spectral Units passive
- Boats are now commandable in unusual water levels
- Fixed a bug where storage would sometimes disappear when being built

- Finished the Chinese translations
- Tallbacks are no longer available for nomads for now
- Mushroom huts can be properly repaired with food
- Guiding Gates use a better under-construction model now
- Windcatcher now also counts as a way to “understand the benefits of wind”
- Braves will search further for water to fight fires
- Made the snow houses more generous in giving free food
- Fixed the tooltip of the caged Thinker when not rescuing
- You can now also get B-Side quests by unlocking all of a Thinker’s memory slots
- Encyclopedia button sounds are properly marked as UI sounds
- Added some cheats for youtubers ;)
