Dev Log #6 - In The Zone

Hey everyone!

Welcome to dev log #6 'In The Zone!'

No, we're not entering a danger zone, but we will be talking in today's dev log how the areas you'll be cleaning will be tied together and take you both to new places but also visiting familiar zones for repeat customers!

Last week's developer log is available here where we talked about the garage you will be calling home and how you will be booking jobs on your tablet!

Onto this weeks log!

Zones

Last week we covered one of the smaller zones that exist in the world of PWS, which was your home garage where your first and following odd jobs take place.

The role of a power washer will take you outside of your home to new exciting places to clean, you'll also have repeat customers and those from word of mouth as you progress in your career.

One of your first jobs will take you to the quite filthy backyard of a volcanologist, who's decided now, when the volcano is about to erupt is a good time for a clean.

It's not your job to question!

Repeat Custom

Each job you complete in the career mode can open up new opportunities both from word of mouth and for the same satisfied customers. You will find yourself in this zone washing a car of a grandpa and the whole bungalow of someone in the same neighbourhood.

Last week we showed you the tablet and during the game you will get messages from your own client's and potential clients about jobs that become available.

Dirty Map Design

In this volcanic suburb, you can also see some small parts of dirt design we have been working on to breath life and more realism to the maps. For example, this birdhouse is covered in... well, bird poo! This is also replicated for areas that are often soiled by pesky pigeons, like below trees where they nest and on the top of roofs.

Dev Log #5 - There's No Place Like Home!

Hey everyone!

Welcome to dev log #5 'There's No Place Like Home!'

Every budding business needs a base of operations, for you, the upcoming power wash entrepreneur that's your garage. Today we're looking at this home space and how you'll be doing almost everything from booking jobs to shopping in your trusty smart tablet.

Last week's developer log is available here where we talked about the dirt tool we've been working hard on and the equipment you'll use to cut through our grime!

Onto this weeks log!

Home

We've had quite a few questions about having a home or an office to work from in PWS. The garage is a common area we envisage as being this sort of home space. In the initial launch the garage in your home serves as a place where you can complete odd jobs cleaning small to medium sized vehicles for extra money for equipment.

Moving forward with early access, we'll be considering ways on expanding this area. Some of the things we'd like to do are to have a space to show off all of the equipment you have unlocked so far here and also to expand it to fit larger odd jobs. There's no promises at this point, but we're going to be listening closely to community feedback on whether this is what people really want. So please let us know if a base of operations would be important to you and if you have any suggestions you'd like to see in-game!

The Tablet

Your smart tablet is your gateway into everything, the options menu, shop, job and more! You can bring up the tablet at any time and in any job. The busy on the move business person needs this portability so they can take bookings at any time!

Come see this modern marvel of technology in action.

With our quest for relaxation we want to ensure that moving between jobs is as seamless and hassle free as possible. With the tablet you can leave and join other jobs, picking them up wherever you left off in an instant.

Dev Log #4 - Dirt!

Hey everyone!

Welcome to dev log #4 'Dirt!'

Without dirt, grime and muck would there be power washing at all? Probably not, that's why it's important for us to focus on that very fundamental substance we all enjoy washing away with pressurised jets of water!

Last week's developer log is available here where we talked about setting up your business and making money in the world of power wash sim!

Also, Happy St. Patrick's day everyone!

Dirt Has Layers

To keep things interesting going into early access launch we'll have a solid range of dirt and grime types you will need to wash away. Each has it's own visual properties that will make blasting away as satisfying as possible.

Not noly that but dirt types have different levels of toughness to be removed, rated by ‘Layer’. Here's all of the types coming to early access:

Layer 1: Surface – BirdPoo, Dust, Egg, Grime, Mud, Mud Splats, Sand

Layer 2: Encrusted – Dirt Streaks

Layer 3: Embedded – Algae, Lichen, Moss

Layer 4: Tough – Grime Stains, Mould

Layer 5: Stubborn – Graffiti

Layer 6: Ingrained – Rust, Chewing gum

Layer 7: Oily – Grime Oily

These aren't exhaustive and we will look at potentially adding more during the early access period. Is there any type of dirt that you would like to wash away? Please let us know in the replies below this news post! :)

Getting Stacked

Objects often aren't just layered with one kind of dirt and often have several different types of dirt stacked on top of each other. These layers of dirt are all ordered by how tough the dirt is.

To cut through tougher dirt you'll need the right nozzle, soap and power of washer which you may need to purchase in the shop to cut through. For the most part, the tougher the dirt is the narrower the nozzle needs to be, in other words the spray needs to be more of a beam and more concentrated.

Part of the satisfaction of spraying will come in essentially peeling each layer back to reveal a new layer to wash away.

Developer Paint

To enable us to dirty up objects, we've developed a tool for us to paint the layers of dirt onto surfaces with a swish of the mouse. Which we can input different brushes strength and more to make the most annoying dirt possible to turn into the greatest satisfaction removing!

Dev Log #3 - Money, Shopping and Building a Business!

Hey everyone!

Welcome to dev log #3 'Money, Shopping and Building a Business!'

In last week's log we showcased many of the visual improvements we've made to spray effects and wetness for maximum satisfaction. Plus, the return of gloved hands!

This week, it's all about money, how to get some and how you'll be using it!

Your New Business

You're in a bind, you need some cash and want to start a new business - but what? In an unlikely way you'll find yourself in the role of a professional power washer. From humble washing beginnings you'll need new kit and equipment to take on more challenging jobs. That all costs money!

Each time you clean any significant part or surface you will earn money. This will pop up in your UI with how much you received for the area and what your current total cash is.

Will you take the next step from small time power washer to top tier grime cleaning mogul? Well, we'll see when you step into PowerWash Simulator's career mode!

The Right Equipment For The Job

The store is your one stop shop location to get new power washers, equipment and more!

Some jobs will require cutting through tougher dirt and graffiti that needs the right combination of attachment, power washer and soap.

Elevation might even become an issue where you might not be able to reach for some quality cleaning action...

This WIP scaffolding for example can be easily placed to get to those hard to reach places.

That's All Folks

Now that we've showcased how satisfying the game can be by just by washing away grime, we wanted to show some more depth. This has been a quick look into the economy of our career mode that will take you through our story and see you cleaning a wide variety of mucky objects to level up your business!

As always we'd love to hear feedback on anything shown today, so please let us know any of your thoughts in the comments below! :)

That's all for this dev log, we'll catch you all in the next one for another dose of satisfying spray!

Dev Log #2 - Hands, Spray and Shine!

Hey everyone!

Welcome to dev log #2 'Hands, Spray and Shine!'

In last weeks dev log we touched on the fact that we'd been working hard behind the scenes on the game. A lot of what we've done has been laying solid code foundations and turning our concept into a game, now things we can showcase are rapidly being polished!

In the coming dev logs we'll be sprinkling more in depth looks at PowerWash Simulator's game mechanics but this week it's all about looks!

Hands and Power Washers

The hands are back in and the power washers are relieved to be once again held correctly!

It's something small but changes the look of the game completely and we hope everyone's been enjoying all of our latest socials with these new rubbery digits. With this addition we've also added in recoil, bobbing and a put away run animation. All these are not final, there's still improvements to be made and any feedback you have would be much appreciated!

Check out a stress test of these paws in this funny social where the player forgot which genre of game they were in...

Spray

Some of you may have already seen that we've teased some new spray effects on Twitter. We've since been tweaking them and also think they look much better on the properly rigged power washers! Take a peek:

You can see that each nozzles spray and splash back from surfaces is different, we want using each one to be as satisfying as possible.

Again these are all still a work in progress, so any feedback or suggestions you have drop them in the replies below!

Wetness and shine

Next up on the visual satisfaction tick list is the addition of a wetness effect and the shine that it brings!

You can see in this gif that a trail is left after power washing, it emulates the effect of water by increasing reflectiveness of the washed surface and generally looking... quite wet. We've been experimenting with the time that the effect remains and reflectiveness, you can see how much it has changed if you look at our recent few twitter posts.

What does everyone else think about the time that the wet effect stays in place and how it looks at the moment?

Anyway, that's it for this dev log, we'll catch you all in the next one for another dose of wholesome hydration!
