Big Gun Update: Firearms Reworked



[h2]Realistic Firerate and Recoil[/h2]


Happy to introduce you new gun physics system we've been working on. Some things changed a lot, got new layers and mechanics, so you may need to get used to them.

[h3]Firerate[/h3]
Now the breechblock on every gun moves according to the real physics and moves the bullet into the barrel. The process inside the barrel is not visualised yet — we'll get there eventually.

This is a big improvement that brings us ability to control and tune the firerate of every gun in the game.

[h3]Recoil[/h3]
As we have breechblock simulation now, we have a new force to handle with — recoil. Every gone now reacts accordingly it's bullet type and firerate, so keep your hands on them to stabilize and controll where you shoot.


[h3]Gamedesigner's dream comes true[/h3]
The system we created is a very very customizable so these are not the final solutions and final gun behaviours.

Expect often updates in guns physics cause now we can change it on the go and no need to wait for next big updates!

While we'll be bringing back all Hard Bullet guns during next weeks, be ready for small updates in gun balance and please, leave your feedback on the Forums or Discord.

[h2]Shotgun Reloading[/h2]
We always wanted to bring badass shotgun reloads like in Punisher or Terminator to VR and here we are — reloading our shotguns with one hand in Hard Bullet!


Right now we are using a special control scheme to prevent accidential discharging. To let the pump move, you need to press and hold trigger during this reloading process. Pump won't move even if you shot the shell.

We are working on a second solution that brings classic pavlov-like pump that is blocked only if the shell is inside the barrel back to Hard Bullet. When this option will be added, you'll be able to select the way you want pump to handle.

Shotguns now shoot with several shots (pellets) so they have greately reduced range for dismemberment skills. This is more realistic and not so owerpowered.



[h2]Off-hand grab[/h2]
Keep holding weapons for handguard to free you main hand. You can use other weapons, take pistol form your chest or just reload a mag.

[h2]Advanced Handguard[/h2]


Handguard now works the same way the hand weapons handles do. You may choose the best place to lay your hand on. But only one.
Would be really cool to add a second hand grab too, we'll definetely look into this one day.

[h2]Break Action Firearms[/h2]


Press Drop Magazine Button to open the barrels and you'll be able to put bullets inside.
Enjoy this bad boy while we are working on sawed-off and two barrel beauties.

[h2]Tactic is now Default[/h2]


While we still looking for the best solution for Arcade mode, we made Tactical the default one.

If you switch back to Arcade, it will affect only your reloading — guns will still get autoreloaded when you move them near your waist (as before), but you'll need to move the breechblock by your hand to move the bullet inside the barrel.

You can perform tactical reloads to avoid this issue.

[h2]Force Feedback[/h2]
Guns feel new not only in VR but in real life too!
We added long-awaited force feedback to firearms types. This is a thing that will get improved and tuned overtime as new guns being added.

Right now you can set the strength or turn it off in the Settings Menu:



[h2]Demo Updated[/h2]


Added all these awesome features into Demo version. And removed AI opponents. We can't have both righ now, so stay tuned for further Demo updates and enjoy new physics!

[h2]UPD from 02/06[/h2]

Rolled out a couple of important things today according to your feedback.

Changed handle positions for each controller type and for every gun. Should be easier to reload pistols and some rifles.
Please, leave your feedback so we can learn more and use it during upcoming Player's Body rework.

Arcade mode got important updates:
  • Pistols and SGMs: mag drops when gets empty. Autoreload works like it used to so you can go dual wielding.
  • Rifles: You need to fix the breechlock before shoot again after doing autoreload.
  • Shotguns: Autoreload works the same but you need to pull the pump every time. That's why we have those awesome onehanded reloads!


[h2]Other Changes and Fixes[/h2]
  • Guns you drop will disappear in 15 seconds if not taken again. — ok, ok, they are immortal again.
  • Removed "baby shotgun" bug. There is a voting on the Discord to leave it in the game — join and tell us what do you think!
  • Nailgun is back in business. And have endless nails. Have fun.


[h2]Known issues[/h2]
  • Made inactive some guns. Bringing them back during next weeks.
  • When performing reload with your main hand, magazines disappear from your waist — fix in work.
  • Buttstock on Gal and MiniGal stopped poping up when grabbed with both hands.


[h2]What's Next[/h2]
During February we plan to do couple of things and get to the player's body physics.

Player's body here is not just a model but the way you move, how you grab and hold weapons, your holsters and even that annoying Pause Menu — all these things will be reworked in Player Body Update we'll start working on after we:
  • Add all the guns that were in Hard Bullet before and add new break action models.
  • Add new VFX we prepared.
  • Seasonal Update for Lunar New year.
  • Arenas refreshment.
  • Add more melee stuff and maybe some new experimental weapons.

Devlog: Next Week Big Gun Update


[h2]New Shooting Physics[/h2]
Reworked from the ground how the guns shoot and feel.

Next week you'll get: gun recoil, controller feedback, bullet physics, break-action, lock mechanism simulation.

We won't be able to deliver Gun Update this week as planned and have to move it to the next one.
The first week of February it is. The end of the week probably. We want to balance and make guns as unique as possible.

This is a teasing post so expect more informative next week when the Update comes.

Devlog: Latest Updates and What's Next

GexagonVR team wants to thank you all again for your support, your reviews and your Youtube videos!

Quick recap of the latest updates made during this month and shreading some light on new stuff on the horizon.

[h2]Enemy Puppets Reaction Updated[/h2]


Bodies Tuned for more realistic bullet and hit impacts.

Working with puppets is always hard, but when you combine melee fights and modern shootouts you always have to choose what's the best for the current game situation.

To return accurate body impacts, we had to make enemies less tought than they were before. They still can take a hit, follow you and can be grabbed, but strong hits will make them fall plus they fall if got shot from heavy weapons and loose balance.

We'll continue to look for the best solutions for all players, right now we are quite satisfied with the overall puppets behaviour and will go deeper into Sandbox interactions.



[h2]Removed New Year stuff[/h2]
Hope you had as much fun as we did!
Some weapons like Carrot will return in the future updates.

[h2]Arena for Patreons and Rougelite in Closed Beta[/h2]

In Patreon build you can start a special training on new arena. Select the Kowloon map to get there (no, it's not the Kowloon map we planned before).
We are getting closer to Rougelite Beta, so stay tuned! We'll start recruiting soon.

[h2]Next big thing — Gun Rebalance[/h2]
Expect these improvements during next weeks:
  • Off-hand pistol grab, one hand shotgun reloading, main hand reloading (while holding gun with your off-hand).
  • After setting this up, we'll start adding more complex gun physics, such as realistic recoil and force feedback.
  • Customizable Gun Angle.
  • If we'll have enough time before rougelike takes it all, we'll try to add break- or bolt- action guns in February.


[h2]List of other fixes and improvements:[/h2]
  • Polished piercing mechanic so swords and knives should stick in/out faster.
  • Reworked vignette when getting a critical hit from enemies — now it's not so black.
  • Bodies should not slide on the floor so easily anymore.
  • Fixed a Bug when enemy could stay on the ground thinking he is still pierced by a blade.
  • Fixed various sound bugs in slow motion.

We continue to add new VFX for impacts and try to make more realistic and yet cinematic experience. This is the very first of a large amount of new effects we are working on — a lot more to come in 2021!

Memories of Kowloon Update



[h2]New Weapon Types: Blunts and Blades[/h2]
New hand physics bring a whole new mechanic to the game — melee fights are bloody and gory as never before!

Prepare to cut through your enemies, pierce them with spears and pitchforks, cut with shovels, knives, machetes and traditional chineese swords to cut off thier heads!

Use taser baton or nailed bat to calm most annoying amd don't forget to put some guys on sharp spikes. Big arsenal right from your garage workshop: hammers, rusty pipes and other familiar instruments.

You also can use metal parts of your weapon to block enemy bullets!

We returned elbows to player, so you can do more hits and deal more damage in melee fights. We plan to expand this side of Hard Bullet gameplay too so expect more fighting mechanics in the future.


[h2]New Enemy Behaviour and Physics[/h2]


New body physics setup that allows us make more complex things and expand interactions with enemies. Now they not just weak puppets.

Bots now can take a hit, react to bullets and get up more naturally. We added some new punches and kicks animations with empty hands so watch fists fly into your face... or be ready to block them!

Prepare yourself for new gory effects like blood streams from wounds, cleave wounds on bodies and new inner textures. Blowing heads and other limb coming next!

Improved the grab system, so nothing prevents you from touching them! And yep, now they look at you when get closer!



To say more, we updated and rigged the whole model again. Just keep in mind, this models are EA temporary anyway.

A lot more to come to make your interactions easier and enemies look and sound more realistic, so stay tuned!

[h2]Important Bugfixes:[/h2]
Lots of annoying things left, however, new physics brings us new bugs, please, report anything gamebraking you spot!

  • Reworked spawning system again, so you won't get an immortal meatboy again.
  • Body physics improvements — should boost some FPS.



[h2]Multi-Language Translation[/h2]
Hard Bullet is avaliable on 10 languages and we will add more. With this update we welcome:
  • 繁体中文 — Traditional Chinese
  • 日本人 — Japanese
  • 한국어 — Korean
  • Svenska — Swedish


[h2]What did not get in[/h2]

New Arena in Kowloon City — will get more interesting setup and design, some Patreons may tried it already in a very early stage.

Second hand gun grab — this, one-handed shotgun and rifle reloads already work in our Patreon build, so expect this features after we polish them enough.
