Mini-devlog Update #15

Nothing like a good ol' development post on a Saturday to mark the return of the series. Slow coffee sip. Time to shed some light on the upcoming content!

[h2]The world as we know it[/h2]

So, how are we progressing with the game? Here's an overview of the areas of the world map targeted for the full release:



Green areas are currently in the Early Access. They are the equivalent of Books 1 and 4 from the gamebook series. The other two big areas left to be added (that will conclude the continent of Harkuna) are Golnir, covered by The Cities of Gold and Glory gamebook, and Uttaku, covered by The Court of Hidden Faces. So, twice as much content to what we have today! With every new area in the game, aside from new quests, events and locations, there is new loot to be found and sold, powerful magic to unlock, more enemies to slay (or get slain by, ahem, ahem), and some nifty convoluted discoveries for the explorers at heart. Did I use nifty again? Good thing I didn't write the series...

Now, I know there are fans out there of Book 3 which covers the Violet Ocean and the northern parts of the southernmost continent Ankon Konu. Alas, Book 3 will not be part of the initial release BUT some parts of it such as fan-favourite areas like the Sorcerers' Isle of Dweomer will make their debut earlier! More on that in a future update...

[h2]Time to talk about the Cities of Gold and Glory! [/h2]

Back to the matter at hand, the next big content update for the Early Access will focus on Book 2. Although the area may seem smaller in size in comparison to the others, its density of events and nits and bits to discover is insane. Here's a sampled location order only for the southern parts of Golnir via land:



How would that look like in the game? We are working with the artist on that and are still in the rough but here's a sneak peek at some portion of it:



You'll get the chance to pay a visit to the Baroness of Ravayne in her stronghold (or, you know, have a lovely stay in her dungeons for various reasons), meddle with the plots of the nobility, trade in the rich cities like Ringhorn and Metriciens, or even try your luck trading with the trau. Note that the trau do not accept Shards. You must use the odd onyx coins called Mithrals if you wish to do business with them.

Folks already familiar with the book will eventually notice that some balancing had been done to the area. No more grinding easy ranks or ultra-GG-OP weapons! Lots of loopholes being fixed as well. Still, places such as the Smithy of Molhern, the mythical forge of the god of Magic and Lore, remain as flavorable as they were, just not... too powerful.

  • Updated Brawler passive skill. Reduced the requirement from 3 enemies in range to 2 enemies in range to gain the damage bonus. (Experimental)
  • Unified Turns vs Rounds across all skills.
  • Unified the term Ability roll.
  • Restored alphabetical order of achievements.
  • Changed the order in the menu of Save and Load buttons. Save and Load buttons are now disabled while player figure is travelling.
  • Fixed Shadar sword weapon showing different combat stat on tooltip and in the story text.
  • Fixed text inconsistency showing different price tag for a blessing in the description in the temple of Nisoderu.
  • Fixed Quest marker sometimes showing on Golden Tower shop icon.
  • Fixed weathering the Storms near Disaster Bay causing the story text to hide with no map choices available when there is an ability roll left to do.
  • Fixed failing at the Ruby Citadel could result in healing you instead of taking damage.
  • Fixed issues with dice probability display.

  • Reworked Tactical Assessment skill. Gives +1 Damage bonus instead of +2 Offence. Reduced Action Points cost from 4 to 3. Increased Duration from 3 to 4.

  • Added new Achievements

    Added Iron Adventurer achievement (Ironman mode only). Added Arkane Kombat achievement. Added Dissonant Harmonies achievement.

  • Implemented stackable items!

    Ammunition is now stackable. Conch Safety from Storms and Rod of Teleportation charges are now displayed as stacks.

  • Increased character names length.
  • Updated starting character names to match the books correctly.
  • Fixed Character titles hiding Rank and Profession labels when they reached certain amount.
  • Fixed a critical bug in Combat when unarmed and having a dmg boost could lead to unable to attack or move.
  • Fixed right camera boundary for The Great Steppes not precisely adjusted.
  • Fixed Kaschuff and Redcaps head position for appropriate spell effects display.
  • Fixed losing a blessing at a random event not working properly causing sometimes an unexpected blessing to be added.
  • Fixed aspect ratio issues on some resolutions with Menu and Loader full screen images.
  • Fixed Kaschuf quest failing if Locket was left in Stash.
  • Fixed invalid tooltip shown for hero when its currently an ally unit's turn.
  • Fixed rolling 2 dice instead of 1 in sea event near the Isle of Mystery.
  • Fixed Cultists of Badagor text inconsistency.
  • Fixed a typo in Blessed Springs' tavern when listening for rumours.
  • Fixed reported incorrect punctuation.
