Update 1.2.7f2: New animations, new weapons, and new mechanics!

Hi everyone,

First of all, here are the latest changes to Easy Red 2:

Recent changes
New features:
•Added Enfield No1 MK2 revolver in 2 variants.
•Added new auto-short sleeve system*
•Added new vehicle drift sound and fx.
•Added early war german side cap.
•Added new AI cover animation reacting to suppression fire.
•New TPS Bazooka anims.

Fixes:
•Improvements in TPS controls.
•Big changes in Plane's physic.
•Improvements in Physic of Wheeled Vehicles and Tanks.
•Adjustments in shoulder patches.
•Improved uniform riggings.
•Small improvements in sound system.
•Small improvements in AI.
•Several other smaller changes and fixes suggested on the Discord server.

*The new short-sleeve system introduces the ability for uniforms to adapt to short-sleeve or summer variants based on the current climate during missions. The game calculates the temperature of the area by considering factors such as latitude, longitude, season, time of day, and climate conditions (such as rain or fog). Depending on the resulting temperature, the game will automatically select the appropriate uniform variant. It's important to note that this system is currently exclusive to British infantry uniform.

TPS Animations Rework

We're continuously enhancing the game by incorporating new and reworked third-person shooter (TPS) animations on a weekly basis. If you'd like to stay in the loop on our upcoming animation improvements, you can find a detailed list on our Discord server.

The enhancements we've implemented so far have already brought a noticeable transformation to the game's visuals. In particular, we've seized the opportunity to refine the AI cover system, giving them more dynamic animations that respond effectively to suppression fire.

Upcoming campaigns

We are thrilled to announce the launch of the store page for the Ardennes 1940 & 1944 DLC. This exciting expansion introduces the French faction, allowing you to defend France during the early days of World War II. Additionally, it brings you to the intense late-war Battle of the Bulge campaign, complete with new winter equipment and vehicles for an immersive experience in Easy Red 2.

You can already add the campaign to your wishlist, and we're aiming to make it available for you to enjoy in November or December. Stay tuned for more updates!

We officially started working on the Xbox release, we don't have much to say or to show yet, but we can't wait to give you more news!

Nintendo Switch
I want to personally thank all the Nintendo Switch users who provided feedback on the latest update and the Normandy DLC. According to your feedback, the game on the console seems to run better than ever and has few (if any) worthy competitors on the platform in terms of World War II simulators, and we are proud of this achievement. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Next step for the console will be to bring the new updates and the new upcoming campaigns on the console as well!

Extra informations

In case you didn't know we have defined a precise roadmap for the next months of development and you can read it here.
Such roadmap will be updated this year as most of the planned works have been already completed!

We keep improving all features of the base game and as always we will be going on listening to suggestions from people inside the Steam Discussions and the Discord server.

The updates for the base game we are constantly releasing are very expansive, so if you are interested on giving us a hand to make a better work, this is our Patreon. All the money raised from this will be spent to make a better game.

Thank you all,
Marco

Update 1.2.7: New TPS rig, new upcoming campaigns, added uniform modding!

Hi everyone,

First of all, here are the latest changes to Easy Red 2:

Recent changes
New features:
•Completly reworked TPS rigs. All the uniforms have been re-skinned to a much more quality and more optimized skeleton system.
•Started implementing new TPS animations (for the moment no-weapon locomotion and some rifle animations). More reworked TPS animations will come every week.
•Added new uniform modding system.
•Added setting to keep reading mouse input when binded input is a controller.
•It's now possible to keep aiming down sight in TPS when cycling bolt.
•Added new grass types in map editor.
•Uniforms can now have short sleeve or can integrate gloves.
•Uniforms can now have hood and/or cover the head.

Fixes:
•Updated Normandy map.
•Added more icons in server browser.
•Removed vignette suppression fx at easy difficulty.
•Added new sound fxs.
•Fixes in new pine trees.
•Fixes in DoF.
•Fixes in missions.
•Fixed switch faction button when there is no other faction.
•Several other smaller changes and fixes suggested on the Discord server.

TPS Animations Rework

After putting in a significant amount of effort, we have successfully revamped all of our uniforms for the TPS animations rework. The TPS Animation Rework aims to enhance the quality of our game by remaking all the third-person-view and AI animations. This rework consists of several stages, and we have recently completed a major milestone: a complete overhaul of our uniforms, utilizing a more refined and optimized skeleton system. This new system will greatly improve the fluidity and flexibility of our animations.

Now the focus is on creating new animations for this updated rig. It's worth noting that some of the older animations may appear slightly less polished on this new rig. However, we have already introduced new and improved animations for the no-weapon pose and the rifle pose, and we have plans to introduce fresh animations on a weekly basis until all of the animations have been reworked.

It's important to recognize that while our primary focus is on reworking existing animations, once this phase is completed, we intend to incorporate new animations and systems into the game.

Uniform modding

Thanks to the revamped TPS rig, creating custom uniform mods for the game has become a straightforward process.

Designing uniform mods for the game is relatively easy compared to other aspects of modding. It also provides the flexibility to design uniforms with various features, such as long sleeves, short sleeves, or even those that completely cover the hands, such as gloves or creatures that require modeling of the entire arm and hand.

Furthermore, this system enables the creation of custom head models, such as hoods or unique creature faces, which can be integrated into your uniform mods. Additionally, custom vests can be designed using this system.

Here is an example of modded uniform:

Upcoming campaigns

We've essentially completed the development of the new DLCs for Early War France Invasion and the Late War Battle of the Bulge! We will now begin a phase of private testing that will last a couple of weeks to ensure everything functions smoothly. Afterward, we will set up Steam pages, and we'll be ready to go! Our aim is to release these DLCs by the end of the year, although we don't have a specific release date yet.

To give you a sneak peek, here are some screenshots from the campaigns

Upcoming campaigns

We are excited to announce two new campaigns for Easy Red 2!

As many of you know, we ran a poll a few months ago to ask you what campaigns you would like to see next. We received many interesting responses, with the most popular requests being for North Africa, Poland, France (early war), the Bulge, China, Market Garden, and Berlin.

It was difficult to choose which campaigns to develop next, but we ultimately decided on two new fronts:
Early War France: The Battle of Stonne
Battle in the Ardennes

We chose France in particular because it was a popular request from the beginning of development, and we wanted to choose a relatively known campaign but not covered in many games that took place near the Ardennes region. This allowed us to include some late-war Ardennes winter campaign content in the same package.

The two campaigns will take place in areas that are very close to each other, but they will be two separate maps. This allowed us to develop the campaigns quickly without delaying other work, such as the Switch updates, modding support, and ongoing improvements to the game. In fact, most of the work for the campaigns is already done!

I should also mention that we delayed announcing these campaigns because we originally planned to make them free updates. However, we ended up spending more money than expected on developing high-quality maps and missions. As a result, the campaigns will most likely be a paid DLC (two campaigns in one DLC). I will try to keep the price as low as possible, but it will ultimately depend on the final development costs.

A view of the late war Ardennes area

New uniforms (French uniforms for Stonne and US winter uniforms for late war Ardennes), vehicles, weapons, and of course, the French faction will be included in the campaigns.
We will be revealing vehicles and weapons are gonna be added during the next days inside our Work-in-progress challel in our Discord server, but in the meantime, let me already show a couple of them:

MAS 38

FM 24/29

We don't have a specific release date yet, but it will likely be within the next couple months.

Modding support

We have been very impressed with the cool mods that the community has created since we released the modding system. Earlier this month, we released a short video showcasing some of the best mods that we have been testing. Since then, even more great mods have been created, so we will be making a new video soon.

Unfortunately, uniforms are not yet moddable. We are working on this feature, but it is taking longer than expected because we are also completely reworking the TPS animations, and until we don't put the new TPS rig in game, allowing modding uniforms with the old system won't really make much sense. We will release more information about this as soon as possible.

Anyway, you can learn how to start creating all other kind of mods by watching this tutorial:

Nintendo Switch

We have finally released the new update for the Switch, which brings the game up to version 1.2.6. We have received positive feedback from Nintendo users about the new improvements, such as the improved stability and performance, and the new features, such as the Map & Mission Editor and the new weapons and vehicles.

The Normandy Campaign will be released for the Switch in the first half of September. The exact release date will vary by region, but normally it will be between the 4th and the 11th.

Update 1.2.4: Important bug fixes and performance optimizations

Hi everyone,

We spent a lot of time during last couple months trying to fix a bug that was making some user (normally RTX card user) getting weird crash issue when running on Direct X.
It appeared it was a bug with a recent Unity version and finally a fix for the issue has been released.
We are integrating this feature with last update so you can safely use Direct X again with the game.
Note that Direct X seems to perform better on Nvidia Cards, while Vulkan seems to perform better on AMD cards, however you can try both and pick the one that works better with your setup.

Recent changes
New features:
•Fixed a bug that was making Direct X crashing for many RTX cards users and some GTX cards users.

Fixes:
•Improved aiming down sight and animations for some weapons.
•Changed the way decals are managed in memory to improve memory management and performance.
•Changed the way blood & burns effect happens on uniform improve memory management and performance.
•Changed the way scopes and animations on vehicles are loaded in memory to improve memory management and performance.
•Other memory management and performance improvements.
•Several other smaller changes and fixes suggested on the Discord server.
