Further Varlamore Tweaks & Game Jam | April 24th

This week’s update is short and sweet, as we focus on our Game Jam projects!

This week marks the start of our fifth bi-annual Game Jam – and so today’s update is rather on the small side. Tune in next week to see what we’ve been up to!

Varlamore Feedback Tweaks

Last week’s fresh batch of Combat Achievements saw you taking on Perilous Moons and the Fortis Colosseum in droves!

Notably absent from the festivities were ‘Zerker’ builds, who are limited to 45 Defence and are therefore extra challenged when completing Combat Achievements. Obtaining the prestigious ‘Zuk Helm’ on these accounts is no small feat! Unfortunately, two of last week’s Achievements are inaccessible for these players, so we’ve made some tweaks:
  • 'Betrayal' now only requires you to use a Perilous Moons weapon for the fight instead of a full set. This still heavily incentivises the use of a full set but lets everybody have a go if they don't mind making things harder on themselves.
  • 'I Brought Mine Too' has been updated to include all spears and hastae, as well as halberds. Spears/hastae grant Defence XP on every combat style, so we've included halberds in the mix to keep on theme and provide a more Strength-focused alternative. Note that the fight feels even trickier with a halberd, and you might have to unlearn a little bit of muscle memory to tick this one off!

Beyond the bloodshed and brutality of Combat Achievements, we've got more changes in and around the Shining Kingdom this week:
  • Adjusted the weight of various Moons of Peril rewards:
    • Eclipse Moon Helm - 0.907kg
    • Eclipse Moon Chestplate - 3kg
    • Eclipse Moon Tassets - 1kg
    • Blue Moon Helm - 0.453kg
    • Blue Moon Chestplate - 3.175kg
    • Blue Moon Tassets - 1.360kg
    • Blood Moon Helm - 0.907kg
    • Blood Moon Chestplate - 5.443kg
    • Blood Moon Tassets - 4.083kg
  • Unbuilt Quetzal landing sites now stand out better among Varlamore’s beautiful scenery.
  • Updated the names of various speed-related Colosseum Combat Achievements in line with the others.
  • Players who run out of Membership are now able to freely reclaim Quetzin and Smol Heredit upon regaining Membership status.
  • The 'Mantimayhem' modifier will no longer be offered as an option going into Wave 12, since it doesn't do anything during the Sol Heredit fight. We could add a Manticore into the mix here, but we're not sure it would be a welcome addition...
  • Sol Heredit will no longer damage players with his 'grab' attack after he runs out of hitpoints. Apologies to anybody who's missed out on juicy rewards as a result of this nasty bug.
  • Kebbity Tufts from Hunter rumours can now only be handed in if they were obtained from the same kebbit that you've been assigned.
  • Razor-backed kebbit footprints have been made darker so that they don't blend in with the environment quite as much. While not strictly Varlamore-related, Hunter rumours have led to these prickly fellas seeing a little engagement than they're used to!
  • Bees inside the Colosseum are now more visible and easier to keep track of.
  • It’s now possible to charge multiple Quetzal Whistles at once.
  • Updated the appearance of the Cam Torum pickaxe stall.
  • Finally, an apology! A few changes were included in a previous newspost by mistake, but are only going live today:
    • Nagua are now classified as spectral creatures, so should offer Prayer XP when killed if the player has an Ectoplasmator in their Inventory.
    • Rune prices in Nahta's shop should increase at a rate of 0.1% per missing stock, as opposed to 1%.
    • Mapping around the Sunfire Antelopes has been improved so they don't get stuck quite as often while you're hunting them.
    • Deadfall NPCs have had their pathfinding improved for similar reasons.
    • The Fur and Meat Pouches can now be opened to automatically accept their storeable items. Additionally, their contents can be emptied directly into the Bank.
    • Impling Jars and Rings of Pursuit can now be stored inside the Huntsman's Kit.

Other Changes

In other news this week:
  • Fixed a bug where the Imbued Slayer Helmet wasn't refunding the points/scroll used to imbue it in some instances when lost on death.
  • Moved the Elite Clue Step formerly inside the Wilderness Agility Course to the small mound just south of the Pirates' Hideout.
  • If an NPC is afflicted by venom, standard poison attacks will no longer downgrade the venom effect to a poison effect.
  • When you check the charges of a Tome of Fire, it now tells you what kind of page was used to charge it, meaning you're able to tell whether you're using Burnt or Searing Pages.
  • Leo's dialogue in the Gravedigger random event is no longer so gratuitously loquacious (apologies, we simply could not resist).

Additionally, this week sees the release of our updated 'Report Abuse' interface. We spoke about it in detail during last week's game update newspost so check that out if you didn't catch it last week! Ultimately, these improvements should improve the useability of the 'Report Abuse' system for players on both PC and mobile, make it easier to report players that you suspect aren't playing by the rules, and allow residents of EU Member State countries to report law-breaking content if it ever pops up in-game.

Apologies 'Dodgy Git', we saw your post but we're using the same image. We're sure you're a lovely, rule-abiding player, despite your username!

Game Jam V

Game Jam (or as we like to call it, ‘Jame Gam’) is in full swing once more!

We do these internal events twice a year, and they provide us with a fantastic opportunity to come together as a team and pursue passion projects outside the normal roadmap. Game Jams gone by have introduced projects that eventually became Scurrius, the Hairdresser overhaul, Perilous Moons, Wilderness updates, Project Rebalance, and more!

If you want to see what we’re up to this time, take a look at the #OSRSGameJam hashtag on X. We’re jamming until Monday, May 6th, so there’ll be no game update next week – although there may still be some downtime.

Wilderness Agility Course
  • Hotfixes:

  • Damage now correctly applies through the ladder animation in the Wilderness Agility Course.
  • The Wilderness Agility Course lap streak and loot now display while Game Chat is set to 'Filtered'.

  • The Ring of Wealth(i) now interacts properly with Medium Clue Scrolls at the Wilderness Agility Course.

Undead Pirates and Wilderness Updates

Things are heating up in the Wilderness this week as players flock to join the battle between the Elder Chaos Druids and the Undead Pirates.

Since last week’s update, we’ve made the following hotfixes:
  • The Elder Chaos Druids’ teleblock is now correctly removed upon leaving the Wilderness.
  • We've also stopped those pesky Druids from closing your bank if you'd recently been in combat.

  • The Teleport Anchoring Scroll is no longer doubled when obtained from the Locker.
  • Zombie Pirate Keys now drop at a rate of 1 in 24. On average, assuming you use up all of the keys you obtain, this makes the Teleport Anchoring Scroll around 4 times more common.

This week, we’re making the following changes in line with your feedback:
  • Reduced the wander range of Elder Chaos Druids.
  • Artio, Callisto, Calvar'ion, Spindel, Vet'ion and Venenatis won't attack for a short period after respawn, giving you the chance to manage your supplies and Inventory if needed.
  • Increased the despawn timer of consumables dropped in the Wilderness to 15 seconds.
  • Fixed an issue stopping you picking up loot on a particular tile at the Chaos Temple.
  • Players can now take a pause between Wilderness Agility Course laps by logging out, although they will lose 25 laps for doing so. Leaving the arena or dying will still end the streak.
  • The skeletons on the surface of the Wilderness Agility Course now deal less damage. Watch out though, underground Skeletons still hit for a max of 4.

  • The spikes underneath the Wilderness Agility arena no longer stop projectiles from travelling over them.
  • Moved the location of Clue Steps inside the Wilderness Agility Course to a slightly quieter spot.

The Hard Clue step formerly requiring you to enter the Wilderness Agility Course has been moved to the Ice Plateau - watch out for Ice Giants!

The similar Master Clue step has been moved just south-east of the course. Keep an eye out for traffic between Larran's Chest and the revamped Agility Course!

Third-party Client Guideline Updates

In other news, we’re updating our guidelines for Third-Party Clients, including RuneLite and HDOS.

Firstly, we're removing the following from our 'disallowed features' list:

  • Any plugin which unhides, hides or moves components of the Spellbook Interface.
    • Resizing components of the Spellbook interface is still prohibited.
  • Any plugin which adds additional menu entries which cause actions to be sent to the server.
    • This one now includes exceptions for the Max Cape and Diary Cape.
  • Any plugin which modifies menu options for Construction, such as prioritising build or remove options.

We’re allowing players to change elements of the Spellbook largely to give people greater flexibility over their gameplay experience. Most of our interfaces are over two decades old, and difficult to work with, but this legacy shouldn’t discourage us from giving players more freedom to make the UI comfortable. This change also gives us the flexibility to add new spells without worrying that we’ll mess up people’s muscle memory, as was the case with the new Teleport to Kourend requirement.

Next, we’re allowing players to add additional menu entries specifically to allow for Max Cape and Diary Cape usability improvements. As we add more teleport options, the menus become harder to navigate – so we’re allowing small tweaks that spare players from clicking through multiple dialogue boxes.

Saving the spiciest for last, we’re allowing players to modify menu options for the Construction skill. This is something we’d like to roll out to our own client at some point, and springs from a desire to make ‘traditional’ Construction training more approachable. Such changes won’t improve XP rates, but they will save your wrists!

These changes go into effect immediately, though you might have to wait a little while for our talented community developers to make the best use of these updated guidelines!

GAME JAM V

We’re gearing up for our fifth internal game jam! This is the time of year when our devs come together to work on passion projects. In the past, this work has led to content like Scurrius, Project Rebalance, and Perilous Moons – so we can’t wait to see what the team comes up with this time!

Game Jam V will run from April 22nd through to May 6th, which means April 24th will be a smaller update than usual, and May 1st will see no update at all – although there may still be downtime.

We’ll be sharing what the team gets up to using the #OSRSGameJam hashtag – so keep your eyes peeled!

Coming Soon: Updated 'Report Abuse' Interface

Next week will bring some usability improvements to the in-game ‘Report Abuse’ interface. The current menu is awkward in various ways – it can be interrupted during combat, cannot be opened while in another menu, and on Mobile the keyboard obscures the interface completely!

So, here's an updated version to address all three of these problems, which you can expect to see next week. Hooray!

  • This opens in the chatbox area rather than covering your game view, so it doesn't need to be dismissed by combat.
  • That also means it can stay open while menus like the bank are in use.
  • Plus, it won't be hidden under the keyboard on mobile devices.
  • We've enabled a keyboard short-cut for each rule, too. For example, '7' would report this player for macroing, or '9' would report them for advertising websites. This may be handy if you're often sending reports for the same few rules.
  • The menu's scrollbar remembers its position, too, where possible, so you hopefully won't have to scroll up and down too much when you use the menu.

If you need to type or edit the name of the player you're reporting, that can be done in the Chat Box too:

As a little extra feature, we're also adding a right-click option to the congratulatory messages you receive when you PK someone, making it easier to report them if you think they were suspicious:

Now, while the game team is trying to improve what we can about the game's menus to help you report rule-breakers, the back-end systems are not changing in this particular update. This means that other rules, like not being able to report someone if they haven’t spoken or traded recently, will remain unchanged.

Rest assured that our colleagues in the Player Support and Anti-Cheating teams are doing all they can to root out the rule-breakers from our community, and they do appreciate the in-game reports you sent them. We hope that next week’s update will make it easier for you all to help them out!

An extra feature you may notice is the 'Law-breaking content' button. We've added this new button to make it more straightforward to report illegal content to us. Very rarely, you may see chat related to illegal topics that are not fully covered by our game rules. For now, reporting illegal content is restricted to residents of EU Member State countries, although we may expand this rule in future.

To be clear, most of the rule-breaking behaviour players encounter is already covered by our game rules, and in those situations, the regular in-game 'Report' option is the best way to let us know about the issue.

Undead Pirates & More! | April 10th

This week we've got a little something for everybody, from the Colosseum to a brand-new Wilderness hotspot!

Undead Pirates

Today marks the beginning of an epic battle between Undead Pirates and Elder Chaos Druids, conveniently localised entirely within the Chaos Temple between Levels 9 and 14 Wilderness.

The pesky pirates have run aground on the Wilderness’ eastern shore and they’re itching to get their bony hands on some Wilderness booty. The Elder Chaos Druids are fending them off, but the battle is quickly reaching a stalemate. Seems like a great time for some bold adventurers to nip in and start looting!

We’ve spoken about this update already at the Winter Summit and the poll blog, so we’ll keep it brief.

The goal here is to breathe a little life into low-level Wilderness, in the hope that ‘specialised’ PvP builds like Pures and Zerks will carve out a space of their own, and lower-level players will be able to enjoy PvP without being at the mercy of PKers far more experienced than they are.

In the past, the problem has been that content below Level 30 Wilderness is difficult to make risky since players are always one click away from teleporting to safety. To up the ante, we’ve slipped the Elder Chaos Druids some forbidden knowledge, and they’re now capable of Teleblocking. Now, they’re unlikely to fire off the Teleblocks if you remain a safe distance away. If you are unfortunate enough to be hit by one, you can quickly re-log to clear it. Note that they’ll also re-up your Teleblock if it’s close to expiring, so you’ll need to get your Run on if you plan to escape!

Meanwhile, we’ve opened up the southern side of the Chaos Temple to allow for two entry points – which means you and your friends can pincer opponents from each point or meet an opposing group in the middle!

As per our poll, the Hard Clue step that directed players to the Chaos Temple has been moved to a safer location, near the Obelisk just northwards.

On the rewards front, the Pirates' provide reasonable consistent loot, so you’ll constantly be accumulating rewards and weighing up whether or not to make a quick exit. It's worth noting (pun intended) that the Amulet of Avarice will note your drops here, so feel free to bring one if you're comfortable with the added risk!

Pirates also have an uncommon chance to drop Adamant Seeds or the Teleport Anchoring Scroll, both of which are tradeable.

Adamant Seeds work almost exactly like Mithril Seeds except they'll move you to the east when planting, as opposed to west, which might lead to some interesting escapes... or at least some funky dance moves.

The Teleport Anchoring Scroll (formerly known as the ‘Blipblock Scroll’, for which we express our sincere apologies) is a one-time consumable item which will makes you impervious to the rage-inducing teleport attacks of Elder Chaos Druids and Abyssal Demons. A nice pickup for anybody looking to pilfer some pirate pockets!

Undead Pirates rapidly respawn and have low HP (it’s the scurvy) so you should be able to mow them down fairly quickly. You can even use a Dwarven Multicannon if you’re willing to risk it! As you're living, laughing and looting, you might come across a Zombie Pirate Key or two.

These tradeable keys are used to open a chest on the pirates’ grounded ship, located in a single-way combat zone on the eastern shore. Opening the chest acts like a roll on the pirates' loot table but will double any loot received, including uniques! The aim here is to spread a little bit of the action into single-way combat zones, while keeping the heart of the update in the multi-combat moshpit.

Varlamore Changes

This week, we're making some changes to Colosseum modifiers and unique drop rates that should make your runs feel more enjoyable and more rewarding!
Colosseum Modifiers
Bees
  • Increased time between movements from 7 ticks (4.2s) to 12 ticks (7.2s).
  • Increased respawn delay from 18 ticks (~11s) to 50 ticks (30s).

Doom
  • Doom is now a stackable modifier to reflect new behaviour:
    • Doom stacks reset to 0 at the end of each wave.
    • Death is guaranteed at 15, 10, or 5 stacks of Doom depending on the active modifier tier.
    • Doom stacks will only be applied by Colosseum sources. Instances of self-dealt damage like the Soulreaper Axe or Divine Potions will no longer add Doom stacks.

Blasphemy
  • Similar to the Doom change, self-dealt damage will no longer result in additional Prayer Point drain if Blasphemy is active.

The Doom Scorpion
  • Has been put back in its cage and is no longer available as a modifier.

Mantimayhem (New!)
  • ‘Mantimayhem’ has been added to the modifier pool, with some changes in line with your feedback:
    • Tier 1 adds an additional projectile per orb, meaning you'll get hit twice as many times for each attack, making hits off-Prayer more punishing.
    • Tier 2 adds a Venom effect to any damage received from the Manticore's attacks.
    • Tier 3 removes the 'forced' Melee orb in the final slot of the Manticore's attack sequence. Effectively, this makes the order of attacks totally random.

Myopia
  • Myopia now affects autocast spells. Manually-cast spells remain unaffected.

Relentless
  • Tiers 1 and 2 now cause enemy attacks to ignore 33% and 66% of your Defence, respectively. Tier 3 is unchanged and ignores all Defence.
  • Bonus 'minimum hits' from this modifier remain unchanged at 1, 3 and 6 per tier.

Totemic
  • Increased respawn timer from 1 minute to 2 minutes after a totem has been destroyed.
  • Reduced healing from 40% to 30% of the targeted NPCs health.

We imagine more of you might get re-gearing for the Colosseum with these changes in effect, especially if there's more reliable loot up for grabs...
New Loot Rates
Check out last week’s newspost to learn about how drops in the Colosseum work. Or, just remember the most important bit: from Wave 3 onwards, the Colosseum rolls to see whether you’re offered regular loot or a shiny unique. As the Wave count increases, so do your odds!

Here's how we’re adjusting these rates in today’s update:

If you're lucky enough to roll a unique item, a second roll is performed to determine exactly which one you'll receive. We've made some adjustments to these weightings too, so that Sunfire Armour pieces are more obtainable:
  • Sunfire Armour Piece: adjusted from 3/10 to 9/16.
  • Echo Crystal: adjusted from 6/10 to 6/16.
  • Tonalztics of Ralos: adjusted from 1/10 to 1/16. Now only obtainable from Wave 7 onwards.

While you’re now less likely to roll an Echo Crystal or the Tonalztics, the increased frequency of unique rolls should make up the difference, especially when you’re reliably getting to higher waves!

To top all of this off, we're making some improvements to both Echo Crystals and the Tonalztics of Ralos which we feel should improve their use-cases:
  • Tonalztics of Ralos' Special Attack's Defence reduction is no longer capped at 50% of the target's Defence.
  • Increased the Tonalztics of Ralos' High Alchemy value to 360,000 GP.
  • Echo Crystals now add 6,000 charges to Echo Boots, up from 2,500.
  • Echo Boots are now able to store charges up to a maximum of 60,000, up from 10,000.
  • Multiple Echo Crystals can be used to charge Echo Boots at the same time, up to the cap.
  • The recoil effect on Echo Boots can now be toggled.
  • When the number of charges in Echo Boots reaches 0, the recoil effect is disabled until recharged, but the boots will remain intact and equipped.
  • Increased Echo Crystals' High Alchemy value to 90,000 GP.

That's a wrap on the big Colosseum changes, though we still have some more Varlamore tweaks this week listed below!

Additionally, a clarification from last week's post: we made an error in our post last week with regards to the Perilous Moon drop rates. In it, we stated that each boss slain gave a 1/56 chance of obtaining its respective armour set, totalling a 3/56 (or ~1/18.67) chance for a unique. That much is correct! What's not correct is our statement that defeating all three bosses would provide an additional 1/56 roll at any item, for a total of 1/14. This is not the case and has never been the case, we just got some wires crossed with our post last week and can only apologise for that!

Now, bring out the list!
  • Nahta's (who runs the Rune Shop in Cam Torum) has adjusted her prices in line with Rune Shops across Gielinor.
  • Visually updated the Pickaxe Stall in Cam Torum to distinguish it from Crafting Stalls.
  • Tidied animations on the Blue Moon Spear.
  • Added a pop-up that explains how to charge the Quetzal Whistle when players first claim a Blueprint. Pitri will still provide this information if players ask them nicely.
  • The Hunter Pouch and Meat Pouch can now be opened or closed, much like a Looting Bag. When open, the Pouches will fill up with their respective resources.
  • Additionally, the Hunter and Meat Pouches can now be emptied directly into the Bank.
  • The Serpent Shaman inside the Colosseum has had some animations updated so that their spells better reflect their powers.
  • Impling Jars and Rings of Pursuit can now be added to and removed from the Huntsman's Kit.
  • Players can no longer walk inside the fence of the bridge in Civitas illa Fortis park. Apologies to any 'phased through the fence on the bridge in Civitas illa Fortis park'-locked Iron players!
  • A crop circle leading to Puro-Puro should now spawn as-intended in the wheat field near Civitas illa Fortis.
  • Nagua inside Neypotzli are now classified as 'Spectral' creatures.
  • Bees inside the Colosseum are now more visible. Buzzin’!
  • Adjusted some of the terrain near Sunfire Antelopes to make them less frustrating to hunt.
  • Special Attack Energy no longer regenerates between Waves in the Colosseum.
  • Fixed a bug where a S.T.A.S.H. Unit that could store Sunfire Armour would interact with a similar S.T.A.S.H. Unit in Trollheim when filled up or emptied.
  • Fixed a bug where Sulphur Nagua’s special attacks were increasing the player's action delay rather than their own.

Wilderness Changes

You’re going to wish you had a friendly Chaos Druid to teleport you around when you take on this next activity. Get your running shoes ready for…
Wilderness Agility Course Changes
Today’s update adds an opt-in loot system to the Wilderness Agility Course! You’ll notice a shiny new Dispenser at the entrance to the Course. For an upfront fee of 150,000 GP, you’ll start gaining loot after every completed lap. Simply touch the pillar at the end of the Course, and you’ll receive loot and an Energy top-up! If only gyms worked like that in real life...

Dying within the Course (including the underground area) will lose you your 150,000 GP deposit, although you can rest easy knowing it won’t be transferred to a PKer if you died in PvP.

The amount of loot offered per lap increases at discrete intervals:
  • 1-15 laps, average 10k loot per lap
  • 16 - 30 laps, average 20k loot per lap
  • 31 - 60 laps, average 30k loot per lap
  • 61+ laps, average 40k loot per lap

You’ll get about a 50/50 split of alchables and Blighted items, which should score you both consistent profits and supplies for future trips. If you have an empty inventory slot, you'll also be given an unnoted Blighted item - this is to try and help players who've come out the other side of a fight and want to keep their lap streak going.

On top of this, you'll have a 1/40 chance per lap to receive a Medium Clue Scroll, which might serve as the perfect excuse to make a quick exit and try to snag some valuable new boots...

In keeping with the whole 'rise of the undead' thing we've got going on this week, we've also added more Skeletons around the course. For one thing, they really need to put on some muscle, and for another, this should cut down on insta-logging escapes. Additionally, we'll be making the area Singles-plus combat (similar to the Revenant Caves) so that players can't avoid combat by 'boxing' a Skeleton.

Outside of this opt-in system, you'll be earning some improved XP rates at this course without needing to pay that 150,000 GP deposit!

At the end of each lap, you'll be given a Wilderness Agility ticket, which can be redeemed at the Dispenser for a baseline 200XP per ticket. Redeeming more will grant additional XP modifiers, as follows:
  • 1-10 tokens grant the usual XP (200 XP per token).
  • 11-50 tokens grant an additional 5% XP (210 XP per token).
  • 51 - 100 tokens grant an additional 10% XP (220 XP per token).
  • 101+ tokens grant an additional 15% XP (230 XP per token).

These modifiers apply to all your tickets, so redeeming 101 tokens will result in 23,230 bonus XP. Tickets are not tradeable and are converted into GP upon PvP death. Otherwise, they go unchanged to your Gravestone.
Other Wilderness and PvP Changes
Lastly, we have a few more of the changes polled earlier this year, plus other tweaks that should cut down on abuse:
  • Reduced respawn timers for most NPCs in the Wilderness (including bosses, but excluding Revenants) to 9 seconds.
  • Improved the quantity of the following Wilderness Slayer Tasks:
    • Bandits at the Wilderness Bandit Camp.
    • Dark Warriors at the Dark Warriors’ Fortress.
    • Rogues at Rogues’ Castle.
    • Ankou, Hellhounds, Ice Giants and Jellies in the Wilderness Slayer Caves.
  • Improved the 'aggro range' for Ankou, Lesser Demons, Ice Giants and Hill Giants.
  • Removed a crate in the Pirates' Hideout in the deep Wilderness, allowing Dwarven Multicannons to be placed in the middle. Call that feng slay.
  • Marginally improved the drops of the following NPCs:
    • Bandits: Added Rune Full Helms, Rune Med Helms, Rune Scimitars and Dragon Longswords.
    • High-level Rogues: Added 1,000-3,000 GP per kill.
  • Superior Slayer monsters now have a 10% increased chance to spawn during Wilderness Slayer Tasks.
  • Players can now purchase Imbued God Capes from Perdu for 250,000 GP after completing the miniquest.
  • Imp Boxes can no longer be used on PvP Worlds. Their primary use-case on these worlds is for scamming other players after agreeing to fight on some mutually agreed-upon risk, so we're disabling them to reduce the potential for abuse.
    • Additionally, manually uncharging your imbued items will refund 100% of the points/zeal, up from 80%
  • Dying with an imbued item (such as a Berserker Ring (i), Salve amulet (i) or Slayer helmet (i)) that is lost on death will now refund either the points or the Imbue Scroll used to create it.

We’ve also got some more complex changes introduced to prevent abuse. These are likely to be more relevant to those of you who already spend a fair share of your time engaging in PvP.

Firstly, we’ve fixed unintended PJ timer interactions across single-way and multi-way combat borders. Imagine that Player A and Player B are attacking Player C in a multi-way combat zone. If B is the last one that attacks C, and C has attacked A, neither Player A nor B will be able to attack Player C after C enters single-way combat. This prevents an unintended interaction from the PJ timer where Player C could attack Player A, prevent any incoming attacks for 12 seconds and guarantee a free logout.

On that topic, we’ve finally removed the PJ Timer from Worlds 318 and 319, fulfilling the promise we made in this blog from 2022. Now, players who enjoy a different style of PvP might get the chance to jump back in! We’ve also improved messaging on these worlds to ensure that appropriate information is given to players logging in – although many players who aren’t familiar with PvP are already scared off by the existing messaging.

Meanwhile, players who are in combat in a single-way zone can no longer instantly have Heal Other, Spec Transfer or Vengeance Other cast on them when running into a multi-combat zone. They now need to spend 6 seconds in multi-combat before these spells are useable. The aim for this change is to prevent people in a 1 vs. 1 fight dipping in and out of multi to give themselves an unfair advantage by having another player or alt account repeatedly bolster their combat capabilities.

Raw food no longer appears to other players when dropped in the Wilderness. While it’s uncommon, some players pick up raw food and cook it mid-fight, circumventing the restrictions on picking up cooked food and potions from other players. As funny as this behaviour is, it’s not really in the spirit of PvP, and we’re sticking to our blanket ‘stop running into fights and dropping advantages’ policy.

Similarly, manually dropped food or potions will now despawn faster in the Wilderness. Supplies dropped by NPCs will remain untouched. This change aims to stop players dropping an entire Inventory of snacks, banking, returning, juggling the food, and effectively giving themselves a massive extra health pool for their next fight. We appreciate that this creates another Wilderness-specific inconsistency, but there’s no easy way to tell when your opponent is doing this, and we feel it confers an unfair advantage.

Other Changes

Feast your eyes on these last few changes before gearing up and getting ready for whatever grind you're putting off by reading today's post!
  • Visually updated the footprints of Razor-backed Kebbits so they don't blend into the ground quite so much.
  • Adjusted pathfinding for pitfall and deadfall Hunter creatures and adjusted the terrain to prevent them getting stuck on scenery, instead of your ingenious traps.
  • HOTFIX: Wall Beasts no longer prevent players entering the Lumbridge Swamp Caves. We're considering adding an extra spike to the spiny helmet as further punishment.
  • The Strength Skill Guide now lists the correct Defence level requirement for the Bloodrager Armour set.

Varlamore: Part One Tweaks | April 3rd

Those much-anticipated drop rates for Perilous Moons and the Colosseum are here! Along with more Varlamore tweaks and a peek at next week's update.

Changelog - April 3rd

[expand]
Varlamore Updates
Colosseum
  • The Ranged Warbanders have been given a little buff, so their ranged level more accurately reflects the rest of their stats. Watch out though, as this means they will hit a little harder now!
  • We've reduced the Warband Melee's maxhit to give you a little more of a fighting chance up against those fellas.
  • Those taking on the Colosseum will now receive the correct number of Glory for stacked modifiers.
  • We've upped the Colosseum security so you'll no longer find NPCs wandering the arena if they aren't supposed to be there.
  • All of the Fortis Colosseum NPCs now have their full and correct attack style information when using Monster Examine.
  • You can now trade the Dizana's Quiver for a total of 4,000 Sunfire Splinters by talking to Minimus.
  • We have slightly reduced the number of Sunfire Splinters obtainable in Wave 1, and increased the number gathered from waves 9-12. So while you'll receive 20% less Splinters on your first wave, if you make it through those later rounds, you'll see a lot more!

Perilous Moons
  • We've taken a look at the Eclipse Boss and how much damage she's taking when at low hp, so you should no longer hit so many 1s!
  • Sulphur Nagua's special attack will no longer bump them out of combat (which removes the window of opportunity for other pesky enemies getting a turn in when they shouldn't!)
  • When fighting Moon bosses, the Ring of Recoil now correctly loses charges.
  • Sipping tea from camps in the ruins will no longer be delayed during Perilous Moons.
  • We've removed the forced camera movement when traversing Perilous Moons to make the journey more comfortable.
  • To make it easier to escape the Perilous Moons bosses, we've made quick-escape the default option for the stairs.
  • To reflect the lore around the Perilous Moons dungeon being newly discovered, you'll no longer find the diary entries detailing the dungeon's potions during the quest, only when you revisit the area.
  • It's now consistently possible to kill Eclipse Moon during the Clone phase - even with single hitting weapons!
  • We've now made it easier to tell when you've succeeded with the Fishing minigame during the Neypotzli dungeon, so now, when you have your net in the right place, you're guaranteed 1 fish, when you have it in the right place and succeed the roll, you'll receive 2 fish plus XP.
  • You can now use a Stab attack style with the Dual Macuahuitl.

General
  • You can now cover all of your Falconry fun with a one-time fee, and it's easier than ever - we've added the ability to right-click pay option on Matthias!
  • Master hunters can relax, we've fixed a bug preventing you from using the Hunter Guild teleport on your Skill and Max Capes when you had used all of your Chinchompa teleports.
  • The Huntsman's Kit will now correctly let you store all your hunter items - however, black chinchompas will wriggle free and won't be stored in your kit.
  • We've tweaked the way the Hunters' Rumours work so you'll go a little less dry on the drops for many of the rumour creatures.
  • A bug has been fixed which means you will now only be able to use the Meat Sack for Hunter activities.
  • You can now trade the Dizana's Quiver for Sunfire Splinters by talking to Minimus.
  • We've upped Irit Tar ranged strength to +60, so you'll get a little more bang for your muck! (see what we did there?)
  • The Moonlight Potion now has the correct description, factoring in its boost to attack and strength alongside defense.
  • For those undertaking A Ribbiting Tale, you can no longer escape a certain villainous frog's wrath wrath by walking away. The furious frog will now continue to be aggro when you come back in range.
  • Wyrms are back on the menu, boys! We've made sure Wyrms are showing in the Slayer Log.
  • The stump in the Oasis no longer stops you taking an axe if you are carrying a combat axe.
  • The Civitas illa Fortis teleport in the Portal Nexus interface now has the correct icon.
  • The quetzals in Fortis have had a reshuffle, so you'll now find the more commonly used bird closer to a teleport.
  • We've increased the maximum capacity of the Portal Nexus, so it can contain all teleports once again.
  • An issue has been fixed where Echo Boots were losing charges in PvP scenarios.
  • The Mixed Hide costume set can now be stored in the POH Costume room.
  • Group Ironmen will now be able to correctly share hunter mixes and butterflies with their group.
  • We've reduced a clue scroll requirement to mean you only need one piece of the Sunfire armour set to complete it.
  • Your Sunfire Runes will give you even more XP as we have doubled those rates!
  • Sapphire Glacialis butterflies now correctly boost defence when they are released.
Other Changes
• We've fixed a bug which occurred following the addition of Varlamore that caused the Fang to roll incorrect accuracy during ToA.
  • If a player is prevented from chopping the mahogany and teak trees in Murcaily's Hardwood Grove due to having not helped out around the village enough, Murcaily will now warn them of this before trying to take 100 sticks from them for entry.
  • The dark chests of the Isle of Souls no longer claim that you might have received a Medium Clue Scroll every time you loot them.
  • Equipping the Lightbearer shortly before your special attack energy was due to restore will no longer delay the energy restoration.
  • The werewolf who receives the stick in the underground Agility course no longer wanders around so much.
  • If you need to get replacement railings from Lawgof during the Dwarf Cannon quest, he now gives as many replacements as you still need, rather than just one.
PvP Rota
The PvP rota has moved to Period A:
  • 539 - (US) - PvP World
  • 318 - (UK) - Bounty Hunter World
  • 548 - (Germany) - High-Risk PvP World
  • 577 - (US) - Free-to-Play PvP World
  • 559 - (UK) - LMS Competitive

World 390 (AUS) for LMS Competitive has been activated with this rota.

World 569 (AUS) for Bounty Hunter has been activated with this rota.

The PvP Arena is using '1 Def Pure' loadouts in Ranked Duels and Tournaments this week.

Perilous Moons & Colosseum Drop Rates
Perilous Moons
With every boss encounter comes the burning question: 'What are the drop rates for the rewards?' Well, the wait is over. We’re revealing the much-anticipated drop rates for the Perilous Moons bosses! Here’s what you need to know:

Defeating a Moons of Peril boss grants you a 1/56 chance to secure a random item from their exclusive drop table.

Blood Moon of Peril - 1/56 chance after defeating the Blood Moon boss to obtain a piece of Blood Moon gear:
  • Blood Moon Armour Pieces
  • Dual Macuahuitl

Blue Moon of Peril - 1/56 chance after defeating the Blue Moon boss to obtain a piece of Blue Moon gear:
  • Blue Moon Armour Pieces
  • Blue Moon Spear

Eclipse Moon of Peril - 1/56 chance after defeating the Eclipse Moon boss to obtain a piece of Eclipse Moon gear:
  • Eclipse Moon Armour Pieces
  • Eclipse Atlatl

Furthermore, upon defeating all three bosses in one run, you'll be given an additional 1/56 chance at any item! This boosts your overall odds significantly to 1/14, making these rewards more common than the average Barrows item.

In a move to enhance your looting experience, we've also implemented a duplication protection system. This means you won't receive duplicate items from a set until you've completed the set, ensuring a smoother progression towards collecting all set pieces.

On that note, let’s continue with Fortis Colosseum drop rates…
Fortis Colosseum
Once you've completed Wave 6 and for each wave afterwards, the Unique Drop Table is unlocked. If you roll on this table you do not roll on the Normal Drop Table for that wave. Glory will NEVER affect your odds. The base for rolling on the Unique Drop Table is 1/220. This number can be modified based on your current wave +1, which equals to:
  • Wave 6 - 1/108
  • Wave 7 - 1/92
  • Wave 8 - 1/76
  • Wave 9 - 1/60
  • Wave 10 - 1/44
  • Wave 11 - 1/28

If you're lucky enough to roll up the Unique Drop Table, a second roll will determine which unique item you receive. Otherwise, you'll be rolling against that wave's normal drop table. Here are the odds for the Unique Drop Table:
  • Echo Crystal - 6/10*
  • Sunfire Fanatic Armour Piece - 3/10**
  • Tonalztics of Ralos - 1/10

Other Rare Items include:
  • Smol Heredit - 1/200***
  • Dizana's Quiver - Only acquired upon a completion of the Colosseum.****

* Rolling an Echo Crystal will also have a 1/10 chance of receiving either 2 or 3 Echo Crystals instead.
** Obtaining these will favour pieces you haven't already received, otherwise it is random.
*** The pet can only be rolled on completion of Wave 11 and its odds are not affected by any other factors.
**** You can also gamble Quivers for a 1/200 chance to receive Smol Heredit by talking to Minimus.

  • Sapphire Glacialis butterflies now correctly boost defence when they are released.

Another one worth noting, shortly after the release of Varlamore we fixed a bug where Sunfire Runes were giving XP per rune made rather than per essence used. At the time, this was being used to gain far higher rates of Runecraft XP than intended. While we don't intend to revert back to those rates, we do want to make Sunfire Runes a bit more generous. As such, we've doubled the Runecraft XP given for making them.

Next Week - Undead Pirates

We've not got much to say here, but wanted to give you all a heads-up that our low-level Wilderness hotspot is releasing as part of next week's game update.

So if you're looking to dust off your Pure, now's the time to book some time off or plan an awfully suspicious, nondescript headache... For a full list of what to expect, here's everything we're looking to include in next week's update:
  • Undead Pirates added and landscape changes to the Chaos Temple.
  • New rewards in the form of Adamant seeds and the Teleport Anchoring Scroll (formerly named 'Blip blocking scroll', but now it has a nautical word in the mix!).
  • A pirate ship on the Wilderness' eastern shore, housing a chest that players can open for additional loot rolls using keys that are dropped by Undead Pirates.
  • An adjusted Hard Clue Scroll location, moving from the Chaos Temple itself to a spot just north, by the nearby Wilderness Obelisk.
  • Improved opt-in loot and XP rates from the Wilderness Agility Course.
  • Various QoL changes to imbued God cape purchasing and Wilderness Slayer, including improved Superior rates, NPC quantities and loot tables.
  • Removing the PJ Timer on Worlds 318 and 319, with improved messaging to boot. The PJ Timer was never supposed to be added to these worlds and in-game messaging had been incorrect for some time, this change is to make good on what we said our plan was when first introducing the PJ Timer in this blog from 2022 so that players who primarily enjoy a slightly different style of PKing might get the chance to jump back in!

If you're looking for a reminder on exactly what to expect, you can check out the original blog here or get more information about some of the rewards and other content changes (listed above) in this poll blog.

We'll see you in the Wilderness! Just remember to not bring anything you're not willing to lose, and to go easy on us if you see us out there…

Other Changes

Easter 2024

The Easter Bunny has arrived in Gielinor once more, but his baskets are looking a little bare...

Oh dear. It seems chocolate eggs are in short supply this Easter, and the people of Varrock are not happy bunnies about it. This warrants an invest-egg-ation!

A rather scrambled Easter Bunny has set up shop just outside of the Grand Exchange in Varrock, so head on over to help him crack the case of the missing choccies.

As always you’ll be rewarded for your efforts with a selection of seasonal goodies, including some rather smashing FashionScape and, of course, some Easter Eggs!

We hope you’re as egg-cited for this event as we are…

Varlamore: Part One Feedback Changes

We’ve had a relatively smooth landing in the Shining Kingdom of Varlamore! It’s been great to watch you all explore this beautiful new land and uncover all that Part One has to offer. Here’s an updated breakdown of some of the stats from launch week:

As with any major update, we had a few post-launch changes and fixes to make. You can find last week’s hotfixes in the Changelog up top, so we’ll move swiftly on to this week’s changes.
Fortis Colosseum
Just a small fix to the description of Doom, which now correctly states that the effect applies on any damage taken, not just damage taken ‘off-Prayer’.

Stay tuned for more Colosseum changes soon!
Hunter Guild
Excellent news for confused hunters this week! We’ve tweaked the names of Loot Sacks to indicate which tier of Hunter’s Rumours they came from.

For those of you who prefer a little variety, we’ve added a toggle which prevents you receiving the same Hunter’s Rumour back-to-back. It’s toggled ‘ON’ by default, but you can change it using the new ‘Rumour-Settings’ option on Guild Scribe Verity.

The Hunter Skill Cape and Max Cape menus now correctly refer to their teleport options as ‘Hunter Areas’, rather than ‘Chinchompa Teleports’.

Outside the Guild, Sunlight and Moonlight Antelopes will now respawn much faster, and we’ve switched up the scenery to stop them getting stuck on bushes and the like. Additionally, your Collection Log will now update correctly when receiving Sunfire Splinters from these springy creatures. Finally, the World Map should look a bit more aesthetically pleasing in the area around the Moonlight Antelopes.

Pyre Foxes have had a look over too and we've shifted the Traps in the North and East of the area to face where the Foxes like to hang out. Not only that, but we've also seen more Pyre Foxes within that region!

We’ve also made a small fix to the Red Chinchompa Rumour, which now correctly tells you to bring back Red Chinchompa Fur.

Finally, we’ve improved the overall look of various Pitfall creatures so that you’ll have a better time removing them from the area.
Perilous Moons
Top of the list, some balancing tweaks for the bosses:
  • The Eclipse Moon boss now has slightly higher Defence.
  • The Blue Moon boss builds Cold twice as fast.
  • The Blue Moon boss heals more consistently during the Tornado phase.
  • The Blood Moon boss’ healing from its third attack has been reduced.
  • The Blood Moon boss’ healing from the Jaguar attacks has increased slightly.

Next up, the Fishing activity now interrupts repeatable actions like Fletching so you can remain focused on the task at hand. Speaking of which, we’ve made it clearer that Fishing guarantees one fish, although you can obtain two fish with a successful skill check.

We’ve seen PvPers making use of the Eclipse Atlatl with great results! To make things a bit fairer (and prevent lower brackets being dominated by the Obsidian Maul), we’ve rebalanced the required stats to 50 Attack and Strength.

Last but not least, we’ve fixed a bug where players were being persistently warned of the dangers of the Perilous Moons dungeon even after deciding to ignore them. Don’t worry, you weren’t forgetting to check the box – we were just looking out for you a bit aggressively.
Miscellaneous
• Corrected the blocking of one tile on Ralos' Rise.
  • Players world hopping while Thieving in the Bazaar will now be able to do so faster.
  • Fixed an issue where a Medium Anagram Clue behaved like a Challenge Scroll instead of a Clue Scroll.
  • More trees across the Avium Savannah should now be choppable!
  • Increased the buy limit of Atlatl Darts at the Grand Exchange.
  • The Master Clue that requires players to perform the Fortis Salute with the Blue Moon Set equipped now requires a regular Salute instead.

Other Changes

  • Improved the accuracy of spells cast by Kolodion and the other arena mages, after a previous error made them less accurate than they should have been. Protect from Magic still provides protection from their spells.
  • The Account Guide on Tutorial Island no longer advises Jagex Account users to link emails to their accounts, as they no longer need to do that.
  • If you have not unlocked the Bones to Peaches spell, it can now be hidden by the Spellbook filter that hides spells you lack the requirements to cast.
  • Players doing the Lassar section of Desert Treasure II can now recover lost quest items from Ketla.
  • Changed the sound effect on the mage Vardorvis head attack to something shorter. Thanks to Aatykon and his Twitch chat for the help picking it out.
  • Crossbow Bolts will now activate at the correct rate of 10%.
