DevLog #3: Animals

Hello and welcome to the 3rd DevLog for Ultimate Hunting!
Today I will focus on our favorite topic—animals. Check out the video below!

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]

A quick confession, though: the excitement got the best of me, and my tongue was all over the place—just like a rabbit zigzagging away from a hunter. So bear with me if my words get a little tangled. Enjoy the DevLog, and read on for more details!
Sex, Size, and Trophy Diversity
One of the core pillars of Ultimate Hunting is diversity among animals. You’ll encounter males, females, and young roaming the wilderness—so be prepared to see entire packs/herds! 🏕️🦌 Each animal will vary in body weight, size, and trophies; you’ll be able to visually spot the differences just by observing them through your binoculars or scope. 🔭👀

To achieve realistic scaling, we use the Length-Weight Ratio (LWR) curve, ensuring heavier animals look & feel “heavier” & bigger. 💪 Choosing the right individual from a herd can make a big difference in your hunting success and strategy. 🎯
Shot Reactions
Now, let’s talk about something many of you have been asking for: the reaction of animals to being shot. In reality, a shot to the stomach will cause different reactions than a precise lung or heart shot—and we want to replicate that. Mapping these unique hit reactions gives players valuable feedback about whether the shot was fatal, or if it only wounded the animal.

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]

We’re currently creating animations that reflect realistic animal responses. For example, one of our animators has produced an animation of lower-body paralysis for the Chacma Baboon (Papio ursinus). This kind of detail aims to give you a more authentic and immersive hunting experience, showing you when you’ve made a critical shot or when your target might try to escape.
Fur Variations
Finally, many of you have been asking: Will there be different fur variations? The answer is yes! 🦊✨ Some animals will have unique fur variations—like piebald or melanistic, though we’re starting with a limited range due to our small Indie team and resources. Our dream would be to offer unique random patterns for piebald fur and animals whose fur has IRL unique patterns (e.g., giraffes or zebras). 🦒⚫⚪
Game Atlas
The Game Atlas is an animal-focused encyclopedia that contains essential details, statistics, and practical tips about each creature in Ultimate Hunting. Built on extensive research and inspired by countless hours we’ve spent playing various games (yes, we’re gamers—and sometimes even nerds!), it serves as a central resource for players to learn about and effectively hunt different species.

Basic Functions of the Game Atlas:
 • Animal Information: Learn key facts about each species.
 • Statistics: Track how many times you’ve spotted, hunted, or even stuffed a particular animal.
 • Tips: Discover each animal’s foraging hours, favorite foods, and scoring methods.
 • Personal Record: Keep a record of your own achievements and milestones.

As the holiday spirit fills the air, we want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has patiently followed our journey, cheered us on, and shared in our passion for Ultimate Hunting®. 🎅🎄 Your support means the world to us, and we hope this Christmas brings you plenty of joy, good health, and—of course—memorable hunts! 🎁

Regards,
Rafal “Raintek”

DevLog #2: Random Antler Generation System

Hello!
It's time for another devlog update! This one will be about the Random Antler Generation System (RAGS)! Check out the video here where Rafał (Raintek - one of our developers) talks about RAGS and what makes it so special.

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]
So, what’s RAGS?
RAGS is the heart of our trophy system but maybe it should be called RTGS, as it is responsible for all trophy types and not only antlers! It’s designed to ensure every antler, horn, and tusk in the game is unique.
How does it work?
This system doesn’t just spit out random antlers! It builds them piece by piece, using database data and 3D scans to get those authentic shapes and curves. We’ve replaced the old spline system with a new bone-based setup, which helps us avoid any awkward rotation errors and gives us full control over how trophies are generated. Whether it’s the main beam or the individual tines (legs), we can tweak and randomize every detail, from the tilt and bend to how they fork off into those impressive points. The system even lets us generate left and right antlers independently, which opens the door to some unique and unusual trophies—perfect for showing off to your fellow hunters!

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]
Challenges & improvisation
We’re using 3D scanned assets of real trophies and feed (literally) our database, but unfortunately, some scans are hard to find & buy or we are unable to perform them personally (especially when they are illegal to import to Poland). Due to that not all trophies are easy to pull off, though. Some, like tricky tusks, or complex antlers, push us to get creative. When we hit those challenges, we improvise—mixing scans with in-game magic to keep things fresh and exciting. The best thing about building such a database is the fact the more data we feed into our system - the better & more vast variety of trophies you will find!
Textures and Colors
RAGS doesn’t just generate the shapes of antlers, horns, and tusks—it also takes care of the textures and colors, giving each trophy a unique look. These variations will reflect natural patterns, offering a range of textures and color schemes for each trophy type. The Tule Elk below shows just 3 basic examples!
Animals using RAGS:
• Antlers: Tule Elk, Columbian Black-Tailed Deer, California Mule Deer
 • Horns: Desert Bighorn Sheep, Pronghorn, Cape Buffalo, Blue Wildebeest, Greater Kudu
 • Tusks: African Bush Elephant, Southern Warthog, Wild Boar...

In terms of tusks we have a question - should Chacma baboon (fangs) & Cape hippopotamus (tusks) be also randomly generated in size or not? It's up to you!

Stay tuned, we’ve got more coming your way!

Until then, happy hunting!

Ultimate Hunting® - DevLog #1: How it started

Hello Everyone!
My name is Rafał Jelonek, the producer and director of the game, who is also a hunter in private life. In this video, I will explain how the idea for the game came to be. Stay tuned, as we will return soon with more exciting information about the upcoming title.
Community Feedback
We highly value community feedback and always try to read through your comments and interact with you, the players. However, sometimes we don't have enough time to respond to everyone.

One of the most crucial pieces of feedback we received last week was about the sights not being aligned correctly, which affected shooting precision. You were completely right. Here is a before/after comparison showing how we fixed that issue. We will continue to address more things based on your posts, videos, and messages.
Q: "How can I support your project?"
Some of you ask how you can support our work or help us. We don't have plans for crowdfunding but if you would like to support our work the best way to do it is to add Ultimate Hunting® to your Steam Wishlist and Follow the game! It will help us get noticed!

OUR SOCIALS:

Quick scope vs Full scope

Many of you asked if there is a full scope or told us that "you can't see anything with such a small scope view".

Here is an explanation of scopes diff. In Ultimate Hunting you will be able to use scope in two modes.
