The mysterious Gunn Powder Knight is here! Helmsley is our first character update for Samurai Gunn 2. He can grind for unlimited ammo and stomp on bullets—even his own! Check out his movelist:



We know what you’re thinking... No, there is no ammo limit! Grind as much as you want, but don't get greedy! Helmsley gets weighed down by each bullet, making hoarders easy prey.

So who is this deadly machine? One of these new Versus stages may lift a ragged curtain on Helmsley's past:

Introducing Lives Mode, the new default for online matchmaking! Can you cut down your opponents’ bamboo before they do? You have ten lives, so make ‘em count! Even those Spelunky traps are deadlier now...

To make these levels possible, we built some intense new graphics tech! First up is dynamic water caustic reflection. Hi Fi meets Lo Fi!





And how about some fully dynamic cloth? Push it! Slash it! If it's hanging by a thread, our wind system will even rip it apart!

Features and Gameplay Changes
  • Changed tumble fall and wall bounce behavior
  • Slug can now fast fall during tumble (but it increases tumble duration!)
  • Adjusted Slug's kunai tilt inputs to be more forgiving
  • Adjusted bullet-wall collision masks
  • Pops can no longer trap his opponents in the jelly
  • Pops's throw goes in the direction of his last input instead of defaulting to right if no input is pressed
  • Arrows can now be re-fed to Spelunky arrow traps when deflected
  • You can now take screenshots with Steam by pressing F12


Bug Fixes and Performance Improvements
  • Fixed an interaction where Pops would explode if he shot downward while standing upside down on goo ceilings
  • Fixed Golem’s super bullet making other bullets appear super
  • Fixed Hayao wall-jump height being inconsistent between the left and right walls
  • Ana's rope can’t go out of bounds on non wrap levels anymore
  • Controller detection adjustments
  • Fix Bamboo not drawing when it wrapped the screen (noticeable on Canyon)
  • Fixed fullscreen setting not loading correctly
  • Fixed several collision-related desyncs
  • Fixed various crashes
  • Fixed joining friend’s invites from the desktop resulting in a black screen
  • Menu rendering optimizations

Online Stability Patch



Online matches were much more likely to desync and disconnect after the last update. This patch aims to remove most of those desyncs with a host of bug fixes.

This guy was part of the problem.

Also, Ana can whip her rope anchor again without killing herself!

  • Many desyncs bug fixes
  • Ana no longer kills herself while whipping the rope anchor
  • Wobbling Minit's sword shows the correct sprite now

Our UI has been polished to make it clearer how to join no matter how many players are connected or what kind of input device they're using.

You can now share an invite link so that anyone with the game can join your online lobby! And if they don't play nice, you can even kick them from the party as well.


No more repeats on Roulette! We upgraded our stage select algorithm to keep levels more fresh.

NEW VS STAGES!
  • Nostril

UI Flow Updates
  • Player Icons are now displayed in character select
  • User avatars are now displayed in character select
  • Controls are now displayed in character select
  • Only Online Host can use default menu inputs (Arrows, Esc, Enter, Backspace)
  • Only player who paused can control the pause menu
  • Can pause and return to overworld during adventure levels
New Online Party Features
  • You can kick other players out of your online party
  • You can copy a steam lobby invite link to your clipboard. (Post it online! Other players who own the game and click the link will instantly join your online lobby!)
Control Configuration
  • Fixed a bug where controller rebindings were not assigning correctly on startup
  • Pressing delete when configuring an input clears binding
Polish + Improvements
  • In Roulette mode—which includes online matchmaking—the stage select algorithm will no longer select the same stage twice in a row
  • When blood splashes in water, it now mixes with the water
  • Updated the logic for sword and gunn animations
  • Tumble dust drawn behind characters for clarity
  • Added an explosion sound when 2 super bullets collide
  • Player input no longer buffers during pause
Additional Bug Fixes
  • Fixed the exploit that allowed players to gain infinite speed while shooting with no ammo and slashing
  • Statues rising out of ground in Adventure mode no longer ignore volume settings
  • Palette-swapped enemies now remain the correct color after being killed
  • Dev /console commands now clear after being entered
  • Discord link should now work for all players
  • Fixed Ana rope crash
  • Credits page no longer crashes when using directional inputs
  • Visual FX no longer spawn on the overworld map while paused
  • Fixed missing map objects
  • Can’t spawn weapons during rematch screen (for now, to fix desyncs)
  • Winning with a red kill streak and turning your opponent to petals no longer desyncs
  • Fixed a desync that sometimes happened when a player won a match
  • Slug deflected bullets and tilting them now works again

Tiny Minit Bug Fix

Minit's 60 second countdown SFX no longer plays after they die... phew!
