CPU and GPU Performance Optimizations

  • Changed the game's render distance to be three times its current value. Now land and vegetation can be seen very far away.

  • Adjusted the overhead health-bar offset of some aquatic dinosaurs.

  • Adjusted the height offset of the camera to be based on a dinosaur's health-bar offset and height. Also the closer you zoom in the less affected the camera is by the health-bar offset, so its more centered on the dinosaur.

  • Corpses no longer turn into a pile of meat when half of their flesh remains.

  • The CPU now uses around 35% less processing power to play the game. The GPU uses around 50% less processing power to play the game. As a result of these two improvements the game's frames per second has decreased. I will be looking for solutions to this setback.

  • The underwater effect for freshwater has been temporarily removed.

  • Rain particle effects are now working!

  • Grass throughout the biomes has been changed.

  • Overhead health-bar render distance has been increased from 100 to 500.

  • The terrain's textures have received a visual overhaul. Also, terrain textures no longer appear extremely glossy in the sunlight.

  • The amount of flesh a dinosaur's body contains has been increased.

  • Player dinosaurs no longer stand when smelling if they were sitting or sleeping, they instead will smell or cancel smelling.

  • Player dinosaurs can now cancel smelling during the smelling cooldown phase.

FPS Increase

  • Made a game optimization that increased FPS by 10 to 30 FPS, it varies by location in the game.

Smelling

  • The smelling system is back in working order! Its much the same as its always been, highlights are harder to tell what exactly it is you're smelling other than a general 'its a carnivore', 'its a plant', 'etc'.
  • You can also cancel smelling and remove highlights from your screen by pressing the Smell key again.

Playable Meganeura

Update 0.6.78.10
  • The Meganeura is now playable!

  • Adjusted the flying 'fall speed' of the aerial dinosaurs.

  • The wait time between switching dinosaurs has been removed because map data is not being loaded during this time anymore.

  • There are now lock icons on the dinosaur select screen user interface next to the name of the species. These icons are visible when a species is locked from play and they disappear when you've unlocked that species for play.

  • 5 bugs spawn at nests other than the players nest, up from 2.

  • The pachycephalosaurus nest in the coniferous forest is no longer hidden inside a tree.

  • Herbivore AI can now form herds with other species of herbivores.

  • Herbivore AI can now call for help from other species of herbivores.

  • Carnivore and piscivore AI can only call for help from their own species.

  • All dinosaurs have had their call range, sight range, nest range, and wander range increased.

Update 0.6.78.9
  • The day and night cycle is now one hour long.

  • Dinosaurs now have a light-source at all times so they can see their immediate area when its night-time.

  • The ammonite nest had collision and it shouldn't have, causing newly hatched ammonite and any nearby dinosaurs to become stuck and unable to move.

Piscivores

  • There is a new food type, 'Fish'. Raw fish looks like raw meat except its whitish-pink in color. If it spoils it looks blueish-grey.

  • The following dinosaurs now have a flesh type of 'Fish': Ammonite, Anomalocaris, Cameroceras, Dunkleosteus, Helicoprion, Leedsichthys, Megalodon, Onchopristis, and Xenacanthus.

  • The following dinosaurs now have a diet of fish: Ammonite, Anomalocaris, Cameroceras, Helicoprion, Leedsichthys, Onchopristis, and Xenacanthus.

  • Piscivores can eat fish but not meat.

  • Carnivores can eat fish and meat.

  • A new type of food is available for aquatic carnivores and piscivores to eat, starfish and shells. These function as plants do, restoring health, recovering from injuries quicker, and providing growth points and experience points.
