Trivia Tricks 0.9.2.5 (Summer Chance Round Hotfix)

Howdy! Quick post-release hotfix for y'all!

  • Fixed an issue where Standard Trivia Chance Round could be set to 'Summer' by cycling the Chance Round option left

The Chance Round effects introduced in Summer Splash are not yet intended to be used outside of Co-Op Vs Boss mode and, if the above bug was used to select them in Standard Trivia, would therefore not always behave in sensible ways.

Stay tuned however, as an update is in the works to properly implement them into Standard Trivia!

Summer Splash Event! New Stage, Boss and Challenges!

Welcome, Tricksters, to your holiday getaway!

The Trivia Tricks Summer Splash event is now available! Complete limited-time challenges to unlock exclusive Summer Splash cosmetics and, after warming up, test your team's communication skills against our hardest boss yet, Summer! All hosted by Mr Tricks on Isle de Trickster!

Introducing our latest boss, Summer! She's one with the waves and she's not afraid to use them! When facing off against Summer she will hide a different selection of answers for each player, so you'll need to communicate as a team to narrow down the right answer! Furthermore, Summer's Chance Round is a little different... introducing status effects!

Summer can ink Tricksters and take away some visibility of the current question, or freeze Tricksters in a block of ice! It's not all bad news though, the magnifying glass will help you see past Summer's shells, and the brand new super streak will also grant an incredible 2,500 points for every correct answer!... if you can keep it! In a future update we'll introduce these chance round effects to Standard Trivia, so stay tuned!

Finally, Summer Splash includes some limited-time challenges! Some will reward you with Summer Shells that can be exchanged for cosmetics, while others will give exclusive items immediately on completion! The fun's only just beginning as more challenges and cosmetics will launch on the 14th August!

Got all that? Ok! Below you'll find the detailed patch notes to 0.9.2.4 Summer Splash!

  • Leave the studio behind and enjoy Isle de Trickster!
  • Five new challenges which reward limited-time currency, Summer Shells and cosmetics when completed!
  • More challenges and cosmetics will launch on August 14th!
  • Negative and King have dressed for the occasion too! Check them out!
  • Meet Summer, our first four star difficulty boss! Read her unique play mechanics below!

  • Summer will hide a different selection of answers for each player, so you'll need to communicate as a team to narrow down the right answer!
  • Playing solo or only with local players? Summer becomes a memory challenge as the visible answer will alternate with time! Keep your head sharp!
  • Unlock Summer's hair and our new achievement by outsmarting her in a game of Trivia
  • Summer also comes with some new status bonus balls with unique effects! Read on!

Octopus Ink
  • If you get hit by octopus ink while playing with other players you won't be able to read the question at all! Ask your friends for direction!
  • Playing solo or with local players? Only some of the question will be covered proportional to the number of players inked. Try to fill in the gaps as a team!
Magnifying Glass
  • The magnifying glass will let you see through Summer's shells and make more answers visible at once!
Super Streak
  • Immediately reach the new level of streak, the 'Super Streak'!
  • This will grant an incredible 2,500 points for every correct answer!
  • But regular streak rules apply! One wrong answer and it's gone!
Ice Ball
  • You'll be locked out of answering! Ouch!
  • Every turn will have a chance of thawing. Brr! Chilly!
  • We will be monitoring the balance of these new balls with the goal of introducing them as an option in Standard Trivia. Stay tuned!

  • After accepting a game invite and being taken to the character select screen a dialog will inform players that they will join the game after picking their characters
  • The titles on the character select screen and server browser screen have been updated to better inform players that game joining is a multi-step process
  • The first draft of our official Remote Play Guide has been published! We will continue to update this guide to improve its clarity.
  • The Remote Play 'More Info' link will now link to our official Remote Play Guide!

  • Added over 65 additional questions, the majority suggested by the Discord community! Thank you to everyone who has suggested questions so far!
  • Some now-outdated questions have been updated due to developments in the modern day
  • Fixed some typos and cleaned up the wording on a variety of questions. Thanks to all of you who took the time to report these to us directly!

  • The Twitch Chat voting bar chart has been moved so it will no longer overlay the fourth answer choice during boss games
  • The camera now will correctly adjust to show the rules on the TV screen during the boss mode introduction
  • Several other cases of rare inconsistent camera scene transitions have been resolved
  • Fixed a case where, if all the chance round balls drawn were slower moving types, then Trivia Tricks would hang for a few seconds after the balls were given out to players
  • Backend changes to how save files are created on first boot to support the addition of more AI characters

Stage Renovation, Over 100 New Questions + Twitch Polish!

Hello everyone!

It's only been two weeks since the Twitch Integration beta launched but already we have been humbled by its popularity! We've been closely observing (and joining!) Twitch streams to collect feedback on the future direction to take the beta, therefore we've focused the changes in this patch to addressing the connection and usability issues we had noticed. Hopefully these changes in this update will make
Twitch Integration a more reliable!

However, it's not all about streamers! We've put some extra design touches on to the stage! Now the Chance Round machine and Trivia Bosses have their own platform and set of lights. We'd say this is a step up from their previous location!

Lastly, you'll find over 100 new questions in this update, bringing our total to over 4,800! We would like to thank everybody who has submitted questions through our Discord for making such a dizzying possible. Speaking of Discord, our AI Character Contest, where you can get your own character designs added to the game, is ongoing for just another two weeks! All you need to do is join Discord, drop a picture and you might be lucky enough to see them added as a permanent contestant in a future update! Get them in by July 21st!

Check out the full patch notes below!

  • If the Twitch character is in the game the Speed bonus will be turned off regardless of the player's settings for balance purposes as the Twitch character is unable to achieve Speed bonuses.
  • If nobody in Twitch chat answers, the Twitch character will not answer the current question. If this happened previously the Twitch character would select a random answer but they would not gain points.
  • Added a suggestion to the Twitch info menu for streamers to use W/A/S/D or arrow keys instead of the mouse to stop them revealing their answers to chat!
  • Pressing backspace will no longer leave the Twitch menus, as this was causing players to close the menu while typing their usernames!
  • Fixed a bug where the Twitch character had an AI avatar on the TV for the final leaderboard, when they should have had the Twitch avatar.
  • Twitch Answers sent after the Twitch Character has selected an answer are no longer counted in the bar chart showing the % of answers.
  • The initial connection attempt to Twitch and the subsequent connection to Twitch Chat will now automatically retry if they fail on their first attempt. This should make the connection flow significantly more reliable and consistent.
  • If the Twitch character loses connection during a game it will attempt to reconnect at the start of each new question.
  • If the Twitch character loses connection in the pre-game lobby, or after a game ended, they will now be kicked from the game, but can be re-added through the regular 'Add Twitch Chat' method. Previously this led to a Twitch character that would ignore Twitch Chat until the lobby was closed and reopened.

  • A new area of the stage has been added. The Chance Round machine and Trivia Bosses now sit on their own platform!
  • This new area comes with its own set of lights.
  • The Chance Round's ball machine is now visible in standard games even when the Chance Round hasn't been enabled.
  • A few cameras have been changed to better frame these stage changes.

  • A minimize button has been added to the Lobby menus, which allows you to hide menu windows when clicked. Clicking any of the tab buttons will make it visible again.
  • Players who leave midgame now have a disconnect symbol above their heads - this should help make it clearer when a human player is now under AI control.
  • Cosmetic prices in the Character Creator now have commas where appropriate - for example, 5000 is now displayed as 5,000.
  • The Math category icon has been updated.

  • Added over 100 additional questions, the vast majority suggested by the Discord community! Thank you to everyone who has suggested questions so far!
  • Some now-outdated questions have been updated due to developments in the modern day.
  • Questions such as 'Which of the following is NOT a noble gas?' have been standardized to capitalize NOT/CANNOT.
  • Fixed some typos and cleaned up the wording on a variety of questions. Thanks to all of you who took the time to report these to us directly!

  • Fixed an issue where, if the file responsible for tracking which questions a player has seen became corrupted, the player would not see any questions during gameplay. Now, if Trivia Tricks detects a corrupted QuestionCache file is present, it will make a new one.
  • Fixed a bug where players were able to attempt to change the material of a cosmetic that only has one material by using a gamepad in the character creator.
  • Fixed the Main Menu declaring that it is "Trivia Tuesday" during Saturday Night Trivia.
  • Fixed the visuals on the Happy Sparkle emote particle effect from displaying incorrectly.
  • Fixed a bug where the player could play various menu sounds during one of the Twitch menus.

Trivia Tricks 0.9.0.5 (Chatbox Text Wrap Hotfix)

Howdy! Quick post-release hotfix for you all!

  • Fixed a bug where the new chat font wasn't wrapping long messages onto new lines

If you missed our previous hotfix last Friday, that update contained...

  • Fixed a bug in the Character Creator where names couldn't be typed while in an accessory slot tab
  • Fixed a bug where the Rainbow Shirt wasn't being automatically unlocked for returning players
  • Fixed a bug causing returning players who explicitly selected the 'Nothing' accessory would be unable to save that character without without leaving and reopening the Character Creator
  • Fixed a bug where, if player user hadn't booted the game in awhile, the items that have been given away for free since they last signed on weren't being retroactively added to their save file (This impacted 'Lashes', 'Count's Cape', 'Fangs Shirt' and 'Santa Hat')
