Introducing the TSUU: Totally Serious Unbreakable Update!

Commanders!

Did you know that after every single Random Battle, we need to restore the battle map to its original look? A dedicated team of people (we call them the Map Docs) will spend a couple of hours rebuilding all of the destroyed structures, cleaning up debris, dragging away wrecked vehicles, and returning all those fallen trees back to their upright positions.

But the real problem has always been the terrain. Tracks and wheels completely destroy all strategically placed grass, mess up our snow and sand placements, and absolutely obliterate city sidewalks. To understand the effort that our Map Docs put into restoring all that ruined terrain, we asked Greg, our Chief Terrain Specialist, to give us a special comment:

Not an easy job, that. I mean, just imagine replanting grass across the whole of Malinovka after a heated battle. A lot of work, for sure.

Greg, Chief Terrain Specialist from the Map Restoration Team

For years, we’ve been trying to overcome the problem. And today, we are proud to announce that Greg’s life—and the lives of the hundreds of other Map Docs—will now be much easier, as we’ve finally found the solution!
The Great Solution
Starting from April 1, the material of all vehicles’ tracks will be changed to Vibranium. Wheeled vehicles, in turn, will receive new-and-improved tires made with the addition of Adamantium powder. Both metals interact with the environment in a much better way than usual steel, so we expect to reduce the wear of our in-game maps by a whopping 25%!

Additionally, our analysts have estimated that this update will have the following additional positive effects on the game:
  • The mechanics who repair tanks after battle should become happier by approximately 57%.
  • All vehicles should look cooler by 0.001%.
Time to Test It Out!
Even though we are pretty sure about our calculations, we need you to prove them. We have created a special battle mission for you: Travel 5,000 meters in Random Battles on these new tracks (or wheels) and see how it feels! Of course, you will also receive a reward of a handful of crew skins for your contribution to our research.

Keep in mind that this special mission will be available only until April 3, 2023, at 08:00 UTC.

You can find the mission and track your progress (pun intended) in the “Missions” section of your Garage. Good luck!
Suggest More Ideas and Get a Reward!
At first, we thought adding Vibranium and Adamantium to the game was an absolutely crazy idea. However, it may really make a huge difference (especially for Greg). So we’ve decided to collect more unusual ideas. To do that, we are launching a special giveaway: Exchange your crazy idea for one Community Token!

To take part in the Giveaway, just do the following:
  • Press the “Rate Up” button under this article.
  • In the comments, write what you think we should add to the game to make it even more fun.
That’s it! If you complete these steps, you will receive your Community Token within a few days after the giveaway ends on April 2, 2023.

This extremely important update will probably (not) change the game forever. Complete the mission to test out the changes, get your rewards, participate in our giveaway, and enjoy April Fool’s Day!

Important note: Unfortunately, the cargo ship with our supplies of Vibranium and Adamantium was hijacked by some bad guys, so the information above is just an April Fool’s joke. However, the special mission and the giveaway are real!

New Crew Perk System Briefing

Commanders!

Thank you to everyone who already participated in the Common test and shared their feedback. The new Crew Perk System is a significant update that will affect everyone, and we intend to make the transition to the new system as comfortable as possible. We believe the old system needed an update to provide more value for everyone.

The new system aims for:
  1. Competitiveness of every perk. Moving away from the current situation where all players choose the same perks and creating an environment where diverse and thoughtful decision-making is encouraged.
  2. Solidifying the perk system. The same easily understandable rules apply to every player and crew, supported by game interfaces.
  3. Fair perk distribution. A roughly equal number of perks should be available for all qualifications, and the mechanics should work smoothly and fairly across the board.
  4. Easy implementation of future improvements. Establishing a foundation that easily allows the implementation of future improvements, such as:

    • removal of 50% and 75% trained crew members,
    • allowing a single crew to operate multiple vehicles,
    • implementing mechanics to transfer unused crew experience from one crew to another
Monetization was never part of these goals. We recognize that adjusting to these changes may not be simple, so we are introducing a special promotion to help you get comfortable with the new system, experiment with different configurations, and settle on your preferred setup. From the release of Update 1.20.1 until the end of 2023, this promotion allows you to reset crew perks for free for 30 days. When you log in to the game for the first time after the update, you’ll have one month to experiment with crew perks without any penalties. Additionally, we will credit 12 retraining orders to all players.

You will receive the free crew perk reset from the release of Update 1.20.1 until the end of the year. The 30-day period starts immediately after the first login following the update.
FAQ
Several concerns were already raised during the Common test, and we would like to address them directly.

If all perks in the new system are useful, doesn’t this force players to get them all?

We’ve added more perks to the game and balanced them against each other to ensure their value depends on your playstyle and vehicles. However, we have not changed the experience progression system, as we are sure that having the ability to learn all perks shouldn’t be reachable. We also believe it’s important to have a sense of progression and to learn the perks gradually. Additionally, we’ve found that after the fifth or sixth perk, the resources required to progress outweigh the benefits gained. With more perks available now, players must decide which perks to choose and what final setup to get.

While perks can influence battles, it’s important to remember that factors such as map knowledge, driving skills, and tactical decision-making also play a crucial role. We’ve opted to maintain the experience system as it is to ensure that new players aren’t immediately outmatched by highly-trained opponents. It’s important to us to preserve the basics of crew training while encouraging players to think more deeply about their choices.

Why is the number of available perks per crew not limited?

Developing a few favorite crews is an important part of this and future changes. We have already announced that you will be able to train one crew for multiple vehicles. Also, we will let you transfer experience from unused tankers to crews you are using, and we don’t want to limit this system. We conducted experiments with perk limitations in Crew 2.0 on sandboxes, and these changes, among others, received negative feedback, which dissuaded us from implementing them in the game. As a result, we have focused on a more consistent approach to improving the current system.
Implementing such restrictions would also raise certain issues where no easy solutions are apparent, particularly for crews with already more perks than the limit which will have no chance to progress further or may even be scaled down.

Does the new Crew Perk System potentially create imbalanced or overpowered crews?

To avoid imbalances, we invested effort into simulating various scenarios, including applying the maximum possible bonus to specific performance characteristics and considering all consumables, perks, equipment, and more. We also conducted practical tests. Nonetheless, we will closely monitor the situation after the release to quickly address any imbalances if they arise.

Once again, we want to express our gratitude for your comments, opinions, and concerns. We believe the new system will benefit all players by adding more variety and depth to the game. The crew is an important mechanic of our game, and we assure you that we will continue improving it.

Onslaught Continues With the Season of the Crimson Griffin!

Spring has sprung, bringing Onslaught back to World of Tanks with even more thrilling battles and unique customization rewards, Commanders!

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]
The Season of the Crimson Griffin: General Overview
After the debut Season of our new competitive mode, we took a short break to analyze your feedback and think about how to make Onslaught even more exciting. While we continue to develop this mode, we are ready to launch the Season of Crimson Griffin, running from April 19 through May 28.

In this Season, we want to introduce some improvements you've asked us to add to Onslaught. Also, we want to test several new mechanics aimed at making the Onslaught gameplay more diverse and enjoyable. And, of course, we want to provide you with your favorite competitive mode and let you enjoy glorious victories! You’ll also have a chance to get your hands on exclusive customizations that we’ve added to the reward pool.

In the meantime, we will continue to collect statistics and are working on the next Season with qualification battles, which will kick off in the fall of 2023. We’re preparing some cool stuff for you, so stay tuned!
More Diverse Tactics and Dynamic Battles!
Our aim is to introduce more variety and excitement to the Onslaught gameplay. To achieve this, we’ve reworked vehicle Role Skills. We’ll also be testing two special combat modifiers during the Common Test. But first things first.
Vehicle Role Skills Reworking
We’ve reworked several vehicle Role Skills in Onslaught. All vehicle role skills are now easier to charge. Additionally:
  • Skill cooldown time has been greatly reduced
  • Some skills are now available from the start of each battle
  • Some skills have changed the principle of work, for example, Inspire affects all allied vehicles on the battlefield
Considering the increased effectiveness of vehicle Role Skills in battle, in order to maintain the pace of combat, we want to test special combat modifiers that will be added to Onslaught during the Common Test period.
Combat Modifiers
Reworked vehicle Role Skills, as well as combat modifiers tested during the Common Test, will add more variety and excitement to the Onslaught gameplay. They will also allow you to try out more different tactics and maneuvers.

There will be two combat modifiers, as follows:
  • The HP pools of all vehicles eligible for Onslaught will be increased by 25%
  • Consumables cooldown time will be reduced from 90 seconds to 45 seconds
During the Common Test, Onslaught will feature two combat modifiers. They increase vehicles' HP pools and reduce the cooldown time of consumables. We will collect data and consider your feedback before deciding whether to make these mechanics permanent. If they are well received, they will be included in the upcoming Onslaught Season. However, if you don't find these modifiers useful, we will not introduce them.
Weekly Combat Missions
The Season of the Crimson Griffin brings two lines of rewards. The progression system of the first reward line remains unchanged and includes brand-new customization items that we’ve prepared especially for the Season of the Crimson Griffin. To grab these distinctive status symbols, you need to advance through the Ranked System.

[expand]

[/expand]
But in the second reward line, instead of progression for a certain number of victories, you will now have a system with a set of consecutive weekly combat missions.

With the start of the Season, five simple missions become available to you. All missions are completed consecutively, one after another, and for each completed mission, you will receive useful in-game rewards. At the end of the weekly period, your progress is reset, and a new set of the same missions with the same rewards will become available. The list of missions is updated on Monday.

After completing a set of five missions, you will receive one Lucky Chip, a special in-game currency. Earn Lucky Chips throughout the Season to grab the most valuable prizes of the second reward line: a brand-new progressive 2D style (also available in the first reward line), a universal Training Guide, days of WoT Premium Account, and other sweet goodies.

Your rewards for earned Lucky Chips will be credited automatically. Once you have a certain number of Lucky Chips, you will instantly receive a valuable in-game item.
Brand-New Customization Rewards
We’ve updated the first reward line, which includes unique status customization items. They are now in stunning crimson tones, echoing the name of this intermediate Season. In addition to the useful in-game goodies you can earn for completing weekly combat missions, you can also get your hands on the following:
  • Unique Dog Tag elements, such as Engravings and Backgrounds
  • Cool Griffin mastery badges for reaching the two elite ranks of Champion and Legend
  • A striking “The Last of the Griffins” stripe
  • A cool progressive 2D style: After you play your first battle in the mode, you will immediately receive Level I of this style. As you reach new ranks or significant achievements in a specific battle or series of battles, your style will gain new 2D elements. The maximum Level VII style with the most imposing camo is awarded when you make it to the Legend rank.
Starting this Season, you can apply this style to any vehicle in your Garage.
Map Rebalancing and Two New Battlefields
During the Update 1.20.1 Common Tests, we will be adjusting the positioning of Points of Interest on Onslaught’s maps to determine their optimal location. We've also added two new locales to the set of maps available for the Onslaught mode: Glacier and Airfield.

The locations of Points of Interest on all maps may change and will be finalized after the Update 1.20.1 Common Tests.
Super Platoons Limits
In the Season of Crimson Griffin, we’ll remove the limits on the difference between the highest and lowest Rating Points value when creating Super Platoons. You can now join your friends in Super Platoons without restrictions, regardless of the ranks and divisions in which you play. For example, if you fight in the Debutant rank, you can join a Super Platoon in the Gold rank.

We’re also aiming to adjust the matchmaker so that Super Platoons get matched against opposing Super Platoons in battle.
Minimap Pings and Voice Chat
Here’s another improvement based on your feedback: We are removing the limits on the number of pings on the minimap to make it easier for players in Super Platoons to coordinate their actions in battle. It will be more convenient for you to interact with the team. Solo Commanders will also receive an increased number of pings on the minimap.

We’ve also made a slight improvement to the voice chat. If you were in voice chat as a solo player at the end of a battle, you will remain in voice chat in the next battle.
Rental Vehicles and Battle Pass Points
You will be awarded rental vehicles (the WZ-111 model 5A, the E 50 Ausf. M, and the T110E4) at the start of the Season. They will remain on your account until the end of the Season and will be removed when it’s over.

These rental vehicles will be available only for the Onslaught mode. It will be impossible to enter Random Battles or other modes using these tanks.

You’ll also be able to earn Battle Pass Points when playing Onslaught.

Enjoy the Season of the Crimson Griffin, Commanders! And we’d love to hear your feedback to help us decide which changes Onslaught will feature in the next Season!
