Nominate Sons of Valhalla for the Steam Awards
Hello everyone,
The 2025 Steam Awards have begun! Nominations are open, and we’re hoping you’ll support Sons of Valhalla by nominating it in the Labor of Love category.
If you’ve been keeping up with our development updates, you know that we’ve just announced an experimental update that brings significant changes to Sons of Valhalla. It’s the result of over a year of steady work, rewriting systems, tightening the campaign flow, and pushing the game closer to what it should feel like moment to moment.

With this update, we’re ushering in a new era for Sons of Valhalla. The campaign has been completely redesigned. Instead of long sieges, you’ll now dive into short, intense raids where every point on the map demands fresh tactical decisions. A looming stormfront forces you to push ever southward, because standing still means missing out on crucial locations.
The unit system has also been modernized. You can now recruit new troops at any time, either directly on the world map or even mid-battle via supply ships. No more running back and forth, no more waiting. Upgrades and items can also be equipped or purchased instantly through the new menu.

The world map remains your strategic hub, but now it’s far more dynamic: points of interest, merchants, and game modes are randomized each run. But be careful: the advancing storm can block entire regions if you hesitate too long.

Dying will reset your world progress, but not everything is lost. The runestones you collect unlock permanent perks for future attempts. Every run pushes you forward, even if it ends in defeat.
To acquire abilities, mercenaries, and gear, four new merchant types await you:
In short, this update transforms Sons of Valhalla into a faster, more dynamic, and more tactically demanding experience and lays the foundation for everything to come.
And Sons of Valhalla is only going to get better! We’re already working on new defensive options for your fortresses, including upgradeable towers with ballistae, tar, and falling stones. We’re also expanding the variety of maps: alongside existing modes like Battle, Siege, Defense, and Hold, new gameplay modes will be introduced to offer even more variety. Expect unique missions with special objectives, as well as additional perks to make future runs even more customizable and exciting.
Over the past months, we’ve listened closely to your feedback and tried to incorporate as much of it as possible. Every day, we’ve poured our hearts into improving the game to deliver the best experience we can. For us as developers, it’s been a challenging time, tearing the game down to its foundations, only to rebuild it on far stronger ground.
Development of this update has been a labor of love for us, and we’re so excited to see what all of you think of the changes we’ve introduced. Most importantly, we want to thank you all for your support throughout the last year of development for Sons of Valhalla.
If you want to show Sons of Valhalla some extra love during the Steam Awards, please click the “Nominate” button that’s part of this post and nominate it for the 2025 Labor of Love award.
Thank you again for supporting Sons of Valhalla!
