3 Tips to Help You Thrive in Aztecs: The Last Sun

Oh mighty Tlatoani!

Tenochtitlan lives - and so do the shadows that threaten it. Since the launch of Aztecs: The Last Sun, we’ve loved watching players throw themselves into city-building, resource gathering, and survival strategy. But keeping your people alive beneath the dying sun is no small task. To help your city endure, here are three lessons every ruler should remember.
🌳 1. Treat the Land with Care
Every tree you cut, every stone you quarry, every patch of earth you cover is gone for good. The way you use resources early on shapes the future of your city.

Tip: Before clearing a forest or digging into stone, think about the long game. Short-term gains can cost you dearly later. Sometimes it’s smarter to build around resources instead of rushing to consume them.
🍲 2. Take Care of Your People - or Pay the Price
Your citizens aren’t just numbers on a screen - they’re the heart of Tenochtitlan. If they run out of food or access to water, sickness will spread, and once disease takes root, death is never far behind.

Tip: Match your city’s growth with its supply of food and water. Expanding too quickly without securing the basics can collapse your empire from the inside out.
🩸 3. Keep the Blood Shield Alive
When night falls, the blood shield is all that stands between your people and the darkness. Sacrifices keep it strong, but don’t forget the role of your priests - when blood temples rise at night, send them to draw out their power.

Tip: Never let the blood meter drop. If the shield fails, your people and buildings are exposed - and once the destruction starts, recovery is painfully hard.

Survival in Aztecs: The Last Sun is about balance: growth and preservation, sacrifice and prosperity, day and night. With these strategies in mind, you’ll be ready to guide your people through the shadows.
