Techtonica's Steam Next Fest Recap #2

Welcome to the second Next Fest recap post for Techtonica!

First off, thanks for playing the demo if you've had a chance. We've heard lots from new players, whether it's a simple "I liked it," a stack of game-changing suggestions, or a bug report.

Every. Bit. Helps.

We're going into Early Access with Techtonica when we launch and having a community of engaged players who love leaving their mark on the game as it develops is so important to us.

As a heads up, we'll be live streaming the game here on our Steam page tomorrow (October 6th) at 12pm ET. Join us! Ask your questions!

With that said, here are some of the highlights from day two of Next Fest!

Z1 Gaming showcased some power production in a recent video on YouTube. Dig into that here, and maybe solve a power crisis you may be facing?

We hosted our monthly AMA on the Discord last week, and we shared some answers yesterday, too! We do always collect questions during the last week of the month, so join up and fire away if you have any curiosities about Techtonica.

Here's a question and answer about the inventory system you see in the demo

Our inventory seems to be infinite. Is this intended, and why did you go for this as a design choice?

PS It takes longer and longer to open the inventory when you add more and more items to it. Optimization plans, or will there be an item limit?

This is not the inventory system’s final form!

First off, yes, optimization is coming for the inventory system. The temporary solution for inventory lag is to dump your extra items in the chest. If you’re reading this answer right now and don’t know what to do about it, this is the best current solution. The inventory menus will be optimized over time, though.

As for the infinite nature of inventories, that answer’s a little more involved. Honestly, we’re still iterating on this system internally. Our eventual goal is to encourage players to keep their inventory within a certain (upgradeable) limit. But, we don’t want to put players in annoying binds when they exceed that inventory limit. Making the inventory infinite in size was a step towards that goal, but we do intend to add some amount of friction against abusing the infinite size.

We will share more when we are happy with what we’ve got!

Finally! We're still in the midst of our Next Fest Contests. Here's a ridiculous submission for Best (Worst?) Spaghetti Mess. It's.......terrifying.

Thanks for playing the demo, and please drop us a Wishlist here on Steam.
