Hello, our old friends/Legendary Tales fans.
In the last announcement, I have promised you that I will make another announcement in Feb 2024. Well, I have to break the promise. instead, I give you announcement earlier.
So, what it is about today?

Today, I am thrilled to tell you that Legendary Tales is finally going to leave Early Access(EA) and we are going to release 1.0 soon™

soon™ again? No, Today I can give you the time!
So, when? Feb 8, 2024!
Yes! It is just a little bit more than a week from this announcement.

As I promised you guys long time ago, I want to explain journey of Legendary Tales development.

[h3]1. Broken dream?[/h3]
It was Dec 2021, after Magic and skill tree update, I really wanted to make Legendary Tales as bigger project than what we had that time because I had a goal and a dream before EA releases. But as everyone know we didn’t sell that well… because all VR market was looking at modding supported VR game only and many of people didn’t want to support actual VR games that is built as pure VR game from the ground, like LT. On top of that we were denied by Meta many times already. I felt we don’t have future so, I was shaking with fear that I might need to shrink 90% of future plan I had.

[h3]2. Maybe…? Faith in dream[/h3]
It was Jan 2022, after holiday, some of Youtubers covered LT on their channel. There was sudden spike of sales and it surprised me. It was still not enough to cover the future plan of development, but I could see maybe…? Then PSVR2 was announced…
Feb 2022, I contacted to PlayStation in Korea, with a hope that they might interested in Legendary Tales. It was right call, SIEK said absolutely they want to bring it into PSVR2.
That moment, I could see the possibility… and they said they will give us Dev Kit when it is available before PSVR2 releases. When I heard that, I could see the light, my dream, our team’s dream can be true. I have decided to push as much as possible, bet on the future again. I started to carve the Legendary Tales 1.0 in my head. It couldn’t be the same size have dreamed, but I really wanted to push to the limit with the resources that what I have.

[h3]3. Loyalty, Brotherhoods… are important, no one left behind?[/h3]
A while after new world update announcement, we have decided to move to UE5 then we got PSVR2. It worked just okay on PSVR2 despite we were developing LT only on PC. So, we could release LT as launching title (Or launch window title) of PSVR2 if we wanted.
But then I realized that performance cost (required target spec on PC) went to too high. That means many of our PC game fans will be sad and feel left behind. I didn’t want that. Because I have seen many times that VR game Devs, they abandoned PCVR users and then move to Quest market or duplicate project for money and drag project years and never deliver what they have promised. At least I know where the money, the resources we are relying on, is came from and where to bow.
After performance profiling we found it was UE5. UE5 was designed for next gen. console, and CPU cost was too high. So, after more than 7 months of UE5 development, I have decided to downgrade UE4 again. If I wanted just money, then I could release PSVR2 first, but I couldn't because we, gamers and us, started together.
It was February 2023, we had to look PSVR2 launch from afar.

[h3]4. New world, new dream[/h3]
While we downgrade to UE4 we have decided to add more contents and give LT more deep taste. First, I wanted to make new OST for LT. Because I do remember some of Youtuber was complaining about our game music! (Actually, I did agree with him. J!! ) and music is important for any game. So, I have worked on music more than 6 month with my friends. Second, named fight! Actually, based on what I recall now, maybe decision of downgrade dragged LT into best quality game. Because many of named monster fight re-designed after this point. When many things were done, I start to see the possibility launching both platform together because we were always testing PCVR and PSVR2 together and then I found new dream that what if we bring Cross-Play on both platform PCVR and PSVR2? Both platforms are struggling user-base compare to Quest market. But what if we connect them together?
Immediately we dive into new dream.

[h3]5. Dawn of History[/h3]
While we were making Cross-Play, I got news from Sony that we were selected for next State of Play event. We all were super excited because it is professional AAA league show. Who wouldn’t dream of it? So, we made a new goal that we will bring LT to both platform at same time, with completed cross-play support. This is the network problem I was talking about in December 2024 announcement.




That’s shortened story of development.


It was really long, but somehow short 4 years of development.
First 2 years of EA development, we could have done because of dream. Second 2 years of 1.0 update development, we could have done because of you, gamers.
Thank you for long time support, love and believed in us.
As I said in last announcement, it could be our last VR game, because we burnt all our resources into LT. But I am glad at least we could have pushed this far and made Legendary Tales in the form now. I am confident, You guys will love it.

Right, one more thing. During the development of 1.0 release, It slowly became totally different than what it was originally and it’s VR only game more than ever, more than any other VR game. We have started as Action Role-playing game but you know VR games are different than plat-screen games. Now I want to define that Legendary Tales opened new game genre which we call internally, Walking Action Role-Playing game because while we are wearing HMD, we constantly walk around.
We everyday WARP into VR game. So, why not we say I am WARPing!?
Everyone will understand what we are doing (that we are playing WARP game in VR)

We, Urban Wolf Games and Steam EA supporters, made Legendary Tales and new genre of game together.

  • Price tag changed from $35 to $55 (depends on country, price will be vary)

  • Legendary Tales OST will be released same time with 1.0 release on Steam. OST contains music that are played in the game and there are bonus track. The price is set $20. Don't worry, You don't need to buy it because many of them I will just release on YouTube(What you see above is two of them). But if you buy it, It will help us a lot.

Hello, our old friends and Legendary Tales fans.

I know you, all were waiting new announcement of before the end of year.
Let me start with apologize that unfortunately we can’t deliver Legendary Tales 1.0 this year. As everyone expected, we were targeting 1.0 release in 23rd of this year. But there were many problems that we never expected. I know it’s big big disappointment for everyone. I am really sorry.
Some of you wonder, what are the reasons?

First, our lead artist has left the company due to her personal reasons. It bogged us down. Especially hand over and taking over didn’t go well, we are still struggling. Because of this reason, all graphical plans were delayed 2+ months and our graphic artist is working day and night to catch up as fast as possible.

Second, we are in Trademark dispute in all over the world, it takes tons of money and times. One of biggest movie publisher claimed ‘Legendary’ Tales game name is infringing their Trademark. So, I am spending a lot of time there that only unlimited resources I have.

Third, there are couple of critical bugs are found start of this month. It’s related network play that we have made as new feature. It’s kind of main feature that we want to push, and we were developing this in the background to surprise you. So, we couldn’t introduce you as broken feature or not supported. It will remain as secret feature this time again because we don’t want to spoil, but I will let you know when 1.0 releases.

Fourth, even the reasons before were cleared, still we would have release date pushed behind. We can’t say why yet, but you also will know why later about this.


So, release date is delayed, is that it? Of course not.
Let me start with a story about our booth in TGS2023 this September.
(by the way, I really want to visit other countries with LT such as Germany for Gamescom and USA to meet our game fans!)
I have met passionate many Japanese fans there. They said they have played LT more than 50 hours already. So, they were super excited to play latest version of LT. We have let them fight against weakest Named monster. Almost everyone failed at first try and they stood in the queue line again for re-try. some of them played 6~8 per day (waiting time was 1 hour each play) and finally killed it.
After TGS2023, I have read all comments from Japanese fans that how they think about LT.
It looks they were super happy with up-coming updates, and there was one comment that sounds like make it harder to clear. So, I answered that person, we want that too.
Since then, I have thought if we ever have time to make, we will make it.

Long story short; We are taking this as a chance to make Challenge mode. It’s already in the test by our greatest warriors someone played LT 500~1,500 hours.

Also, today I want to share some of information that what we have done last 3 months.

1. New Game+ (a.k.a challenge mode)
Player can play challenge mode after defeating final boss.
In challenge mode, Enemies are stronger than normal mode in all aspects.
The enemies in challenge mode could drop 50+ items as reward.

Challenge mode and perma-death mode both can be opt-in together.
Again, they are stronger than normal enemies in all aspects.
I want to make clear that add some HP and ATK that is not a game design I want(wink). It is a VR game! I want you, gamers, level-up not character levels up. You will see what I mean when it comes.

2. Enemy Animations
Now some of enemies use left-handed weapon. Of course, the attacks come from different side. We have found that it gives much more deep-dived fighting experience.

3. Honor points
Player can earn honor points by defeating Named monsters. With the points Player can buy Player titles and/or Item titles that can be used for crafted items. Buy random item in black market.

4. New Skill Tress
We have added 33 new skills related to Legendary Items. Now you can upgrade your Legendary Items in the Legendary Skill-Tree. It only can be unlock/upgraded by Honor points.

Now LT has 140+ skills (current playable version has less than 80)

5. First looks of new Legendary Weapon
I realized that we have showed you an image of it but never showed how actually cool it is. It’s called ‘Methuselah’

6. Item re-roll!
a Luck is cruel for some people. It’s same to me. I feel like I never have good option items. So, well, I have told my team we need this feature! Now you can maintain rarity but can change options by paying money.

7. Room Quests (a.k.a mini games)
During the development of 1.0, We have removed mini games from dungeons. But our greatest testers gave us feedback that it would be great to bring it back. So we have brought some old mini games but with new design and made new mini game that you can enjoy with your friends.

8. Official Languages support
Legendary Tales will supports English, Japanese, German and Korean. Translate quality could be really bad because we have used translator since we don’t have enough resources, but at least I wish it helps our fans.
Of course, I would like to add more language support in the future only if it’s possible for us.

That’s all I want to share about the game updates today.

We have targeted release week, and I will make another announcement in February 2024 or could be before. We are working really hard to make it early but keep quality. Next announcement possibly includes release date. Keep eyes on it.
Also, I am intending to stop selling LT early access when we set 1.0 ‘release date’ to protect early access supporter’s profit only if it’s possible.
That could be a sign it’s coming anytime soon.
Price tag will be increased a lot with 1.0 releases.

I really appreciate all your love and thank you for supporting us by buying Early Access version.
I know there are some people doubt that we won’t finish development and ran away already.
Maybe It could be our last game since VR market is too niche and we don’t sell enough to make new games, but that doesn’t mean we give up and we will never give up for our dream.

It could mean nothing for some people, but I can promise you and I clearly say that no matter what, we will finish Legendary Tales in the way of the best form we can make.
Watch us until the end what we have done with really small team with greatest community and your love.
We will make best Early Access VR game output all time.

I wish you all are doing well. another 3months passed after last announcement. I know, you all are waiting Legendary Tales 1.0 release.
At this point what I can tell you about Legendary Tales 1.0 is everything is going well, there is no problem I see. (btw, I saw some rumor that we are waiting Quest 3 release; My answer is no, we are not related to Quest at all)

As the result, We have brought Legendary Tales recent build for our game fans TGS 2023 in Japan! (I know there are many fans in North America and EU as well, But we couldn't travel that far, It costs too much for us, I am truely Sorry!!!)

In our booth in TGS 2023, You can play all most everything that we have prepared for 1.0 release inclulde all named monster fights, dungeon adventure and your ear will be also be happy with our new Original Sound Track during game play.

The shape of things to come.

Hello! once again old friends. It’s been a really long time since we’ve had an update for you. I know it probably seems like we just disappeared considering how frequent our updates were originally but… hoof… it’s been a long year.

First off, we want to apologize for how out of sync our new world update release date was with… well reality. Legendary Tales is a project that has been mired by a ridiculous amount of engine related troubles in its time. Those of you who have been with us a long while know this isn’t the first time it’s happened, but we had to switch our project, once again, to another engine version.


[h2]Engine Changed : UE5 -> UE4 [/h2]

Unreal Engine 5 looked very promising, and we were very excited to use it, however, despite all our best efforts at optimizing Chaos physics engine there were still going to be players who would have ended up left behind. We were able to save 25% of the CPU cost, but it was still 35% higher than UE4 in multi-play, which would have meant many of our fans would have had performance problems.

We really felt it wasn’t worth abandoning the majority of our players for this (Obviously) so we had to move back to Unreal Engine 4. This ended up sucking up at least 3-5 months.
During last year’s announcement I had mentioned that this was a potential risk, and unfortunately it didn't end the way we had hoped. We're really sorry that things ended up this way, but we're back and situated in UE4 now.

There is a possibility to upgrade the engine sometime in the future after release, but we don't want to waste any more time on trying to make it happen now, especially when our fans have been so patient already.

We also wanted to let you know, despite us not appearing very active on Steam we have been seeing things. We know a lot of people think the game is dead, that's understandable. We can all think of a game where we got burned by developers just abandoning their ideas.

But I want to assure you it’s not dead, our lack of communication is partly because we were spending so much time and energy on moving engines and due to some health issues.

I know some of you are aware I had been needing to go to the hospital for a while, well I finally did, and I ended up having to stay and recover for a lot longer than anticipated, while work continued here at the office it was harder to communicate with you and the team.

We can’t promise that the next few months will include a lot of communication, but we hope you can believe us that the game is not dead, and development is absolutely ongoing.

So, because of all of this we were not able to release or update earlier this year, however the next update will in fact be the full release. Legendary Tales 1.0.

Also, to inform you, there will be no early access test this time as we have been doing closed Beta tests for quite a while now. The feedback from that has been great and has been helping us immensely. However, it's possible we might ask more people to be a part of the closed beta testing before full release under NDA.

“So, is that all there is to it?” I hear you cry. “A year of technical difficulties?” Well, no actually, we have been working and reworking a lot of other things at the same time. Switching engines also gave us the opportunity to update a lot of things and tweak some other things to make them look and run better (Like magic effects for a start).

I can get into some of the details with you all at a later point but for now let’s go over some highlights.

Game change list


[h2]Armor[/h2]
First off, we have made some changes based on things all of you have been asking for or giving us feedback on. We have added armor! Haha well we already had that, but now every armor you can wear in game will will be reflected in your character model. A small thing but you’ve wanted it for a while, and we’d always wanted to bring it to you. It involved a lot of work on the part of our graphics team but they managed it.



[h2]Monsters[/h2]
We’ve also added new monsters (I know we say that every time) including a necromancer, barbarian and paladins. But that also includes Named monsters. Monsters in the world that have unique fighting styles, so they won’t be like the hordes that you usually fight. No, you’ll have to change things up for them, they’re not only a cut above the rest they’re also different from each other! We know you’re all going to love learning how to take these guys down. According to our closed beta testers, this feels like the next level of VR fighting, almost like Legendary Tales 2.



[h2]Dungeons[/h2]
One thing we wanted to clear up, though we have toyed with procedural generation on and off since… well since the beginning of Legendary Tales. In the end we have moved to predesigned dungeons, they are very large, but we think this really gave us the ability to control difficulty, exploration, progression and honestly, just making the scene look cool. This would be one of the other things we’ve been working on all this time.



[h2]Skill Tree[/h2]
There’re some little things we’ve added, extra magic skills, extra passive skills. We’ve added a lot to the skill tree, and we hope you’ll enjoy working your way through it all once again.
There’re 17 different passive skills 6 new magics and 6 new magic passive skills.



[h2]Way points[/h2]
There are also way points to move around the world and dungeons now.

[h2]Crafting[/h2]
There have been a few changes to the crafting mechanism, things like the ability to scrap your items for parts, and the way items are put together is a bit more intuitive now.




on top of that we’ve also added alchemy. So, you can finally make your own Potions. Also, it’s a small thing, you have to actually drink the potions now, no absorbing them by pressing a button.




[h2]Eat, drink and be merry![/h2]
We’ve also added other ways to heal, you can sit by the campfire to restore health, and you can even cook meat on the fire! Meat and beer have been added as another way to restore small amounts of HP and MP.

[h2]Weapons[/h2]
5 new spears and 1 legendary spear have been added.




[h2]Sound and Musics[/h2]
We also think sound and music are important to a game, so we have been working on producing original musics for Legendary Tales beyond our main theme music and background, environmental musics... there are 10+ new musics are on the way. We hope this gives us our own unique feeling.

There’s more but for now we just wanted to let you know that we’ve added some end content too in the form of honor points. You can use these honor points to buy certain items in game. It’s going to be great. we know you’re going to love it.

So here we are once again. It’s been a long road and forgive us if we’re hesitant to give a solid release date yet, best laid plans of mice and men and all that. But if you take nothing away from today’s update, we hope you can take away this; the game is not dead, we’re working really hard, and we’re really coming to the end. We have an internal targeted release date, but we can't share that at this time. But one thing I can tell you is that this game is going to be amazing and, we hope, worth the wait.

Finally, we want to say thank you to all of you, those who have provided feedback, those who have kept active in the community, those who have supported us all this time. Those who have played quietly in the shadows. And even the people who ask if the game is dead, it’s great to know that people care so much about this game. We know people wouldn’t be asking if they didn’t really want this game to be released.

So, thank you to all of you, we’ll try to be a bit more active in the chat. We are taking care of every aspect of this game because it is our passion, and we are burning all the resources we have to make it happen. We hope you have a wonderful day and this update could bring you out of the dark a bit.
