Friday Dev News #71 - Pipe Connections

Hello everyone!

It’s been a while, but we’re making steady progress on the pipes update and will be releasing it in 2 weeks from now!

Check out the way buildings automatically connect to your underground pipe system:

Buildings always choose the closest pipe to connect to, so you can precisely select which building is connected to which pipe system.

Meanwhile, Andreas has finalized another batch of production buildings:

You can see the yellow methane driller on the top right and the big pumping station on the left right next to it.

Finally, you will also be able to ferment Methane from organic waste - the fermentation plant is probably our most chemistry-looking building yet:

I hope you can stomach the next 2 weeks until the pipes update comes out - happy playing!

Friday Dev News #70 - Methane

Hello everyone,

we have finished a batch of buildings for dealing with water: These buildings help you filter water from the atmosphere or get it from the ground. Also, you can store any kind of liquid or gas in a tank in order to build up some reserves.

The new pumping station is next on our list - it will help connect nearby buildings to the pipe system more easily:

Methane

And finally, we're introducing a new resource! You will be able to get methane from processing organic waste or drill for the resource in the planet's crust as shown here:

Because methane occurs as a gas usually, you will be able to use the pipe network for methane transportation or keep using the trucks and trains you're used to already.

Happy playing!

Friday Dev News #69 - Water Production

Hello everyone!

What better resource to put into pipes than water?
Starting with the next major update, you'll have to provide water to your habitats to keep them liveable.

There are two main ways to get access to water. The first is filtering out stray water partlcles out of the atmosphere:

Since the atomsphere isn't all that humid, this is a very energy intensive process, but it's easy to set up.

Once you settle in and can build some bigger machinery, it's wise to drill down and extract water from underground reservoirs:

Spaceship repair

And finally, I'd like to leave you with a view of your damaged ship before you start repairing it:

Finally, I want to confirm that the Pipes & Spaceship Update is going to be released in May!

Happy playing!

Friday Dev News #68 - Loading Time Improvement

Hello everyone!

Minor bonus update released today: Save loading time improvemed by 41%!
On the Discord server I saw talk about long load times, so I took some time today and optimized it.

Specifically, the terrain adaption algorithm which changes the terrain shape based on the buildings and roads around it, was a very inefficient bottleneck. In my test case, a city with xxx inhabitants, terrain adaption took 76 seconds! After optimization it's down to 0.4 seconds. The more CPU cores your computer has, the better the improvement.

In other news, we finished the spaceship construction facility. Yes, this delivers spaceship modules to your Antares ship in orbit and yes, as you guessed in last time's comments, the wings of the transport ship can fold so it fits into the underground facility :)

Happy playing!

Friday Dev News #67 - Spaceship Construction Facility

Hello everyone,

it's time to take another look on our progress on the next update, specifically: Buildings!

Spaceship Construction Facility

In the last Friday Dev News post, we introduced Antares, your large mothership. After a failed warp jump, your ship got damaged and now you're stranded in unexplored space with a damaged ship.

In order to repair your mothership Antares, you'll need to gather specialized resources and construct large repair modules to send up to your ship. You can accomplish this in the new ship construction facility.

Most of the actual construction happens underground, but when a big module is ready, the rocket bay opens and the ship module is sent up into orbit with the help of a smaller transport spaceplane:

New Mini Train Station

Our usual train stations take up a lot of space, so we created a new miniature version to fit into more narrow spaces:

New Colleagues

All the hiring effort is paying off and two new colleagues are going to join us within the next month:
Ben is an experienced software engineer helping full time with the programming of InfraSpace and Adriana is a talented 2D artist who will be helping part time with defining the style of the game through concept art.

That's it for this week, so as always,
happy playing!
