DD# 213 The Lucifer Within Us, Part II
Hi, everyone. Welcome to another week's developer's diary.
This week, the quest "The Lucifer Within Us" officially started. All the current story content is on the Floor of Religion in the Grand Library. Yes, everything about this quest so far is about a certain book. (A misplaced book that was not supposed to be on this floor. A book from real life talks about how good people can do bad things. A book whose author witnessed one of the most infamous experiments in human history. He also passed away just last year.) To avoid spoilers, I am not going to tell you the name of this book here directly. But if you know the name of this book. Ah, I see, you're a Man of Culture as well. :D
There is a lot of killing in this quest so far. Certainly, it can cause some discomfort.

Because we are human, we are programmed to have compassion for other human beings in our genes, except for those people who are categorized as psychopaths or sociopaths who lack the capability to feel sympathy for others. The difference is psychopaths are born while sociopaths are acquired. They are not very good people, right? No, the world we live in actually rewards them. They are usually more efficient in many cases. Although the book does not train you to become a sociopath, it does provide some insight into how people can get into a state that allows them to do cruel things to others.

During the quest, you can acquire those "skills" to benefit you.
They all sound quite evil, right?
But knowledge by itself has no right or wrong; it all depends on how you use it. For example, you can dehumanize a target people to start a genocide. Or, you can also dehumanize an enemy who is invading your country, torturing your neighbors, and kidnapping your kids to rally resistance against them. Sounds familiar? Such an enemy is called Orcs or Z-ombies in Ukraine right now. Even though you may not want to use those skills, having an awareness and knowing how others may use them is still beneficial.
Meanwhile, the art assets for another character that will appear on the Floor of Philosophy are ready.

"Everyone sees what you appear to be; few really know what you really are. This is as it should be."
Something quite fits this game, which has a lot of secret society and covert operations, doesn't it?
Well, he will appear after I'm done with the Floor of Religion. But I'm not going to talk about him right now. But another character whose art assets I introduced last week. Some of you may have data-mined and learned who he is. Previously, I planned to talk about him next week. However, given the current fast-changing global situation, all thanks to Donald Trump. I think I shall talk about him right now. I have foreseen the direction of this development. But I didn't expect it to be in such a dramatic manner. Well, played. Now, let's get to the point.

Never before in the past 50 years have European nations had such a need to examine this person's work so closely as they do now. People are getting too comfortable in high-welfare societies, encouraging contentment and dismissing ambitions and the "Will to Power." This time, you cannot expect some superheroes from another side of the ocean to save you. You must be the heroes yourselves to write your legends. It will be painful. But "what cannot kill you will make you stronger."
Some may say the US betrayed their allies. I don't think that's too bad. At least, it's not like in a scenario where when the US troops come, you suddenly learn they are on the other side of the war. It's not like a betrayal as great as it is in Isstvan V in Warhammer Universe. It's not fatal. And I don't believe the descendants of Sparta, the descendants of the knights who fought in Tours, and the descendants of the Winged Hussars who rescued Vienna cannot defend Europe again, even on their own.
Some may denounce his work as lacking pity for the weak and call him a tyrant, but I read him and can feel his love for human evolution. After all, being kind itself cannot save the world; you must be strong and powerful. This is one of the many motivations behind every update of this game in its more than twenty years of history.
