DD# 255 The Corruption of Rodericka
Hi, everyone. Welcome to another week's developer's diary.
This week, the main content updates are still in Ardham Hotel. After further study of the topic, I decided to make the story on the third floor deeper and include more content than originally planned. Based on the hints from the previous week, you may have figured out which demon I am working on. But, since the story has not reached the point to reveal her true identity, let's just call her Rodericka for now, or "The Girl", just like the nickname those Foundation agents gave her.
This week's work is mainly on the world and environment building.
The first significant change to the third floor of Ardham Hotel is a new environmental hazard: the "Sleepy-Aura." Under the influence of the girl, each turn, everyone on this floor needs to pass a resistance check or fall asleep. Mephisto will warn you immediately upon entering this floor and urge you to leave this area as soon as possible. Maybe you will even wonder what can startle a powerful demon like him.
Next, you will start to encounter a new type of enemy, the Dissolved.

Their behavior is a bit different from that of other enemies. They do not chase you. They are just there, minding their own business, dissolving. But if you get closer to them, they will attack you. So, basically, they are more like landmines. Visually speaking, their human features are pretty obvious.

Maybe you can find more lore in the Guide to Monster Hunting.
Those are not the only new enemies. There are also more mobile enemies walking around on this floor, in addition to those dissolving slimes and dreamwalking Foundation agents.

Kli-Tardemah, or "Vessel of Dream," is a half-demon, half-human creature that has long been under the girl's influence. They may drop the Shard of Dream and the Shard of Nightmare, which can be used in alchemy to make powerful potions or poisons.
Both of those new enemies can be turned into pets if you wish. You can use their various unique powers to defeat other enemies in your journey. However, they are not unique to this location. Both of them can also appear near the North Peak, which is our current long-term goal to finish Chapter Three. The Dissolved can also be found in Liu's Sewer.
Now, here is one more thing. How can those Foundation Agents still not entirely fall under the girl's influence? Even though they are no longer their old selves, they have lost their mind and are engaging in an aggressive dreamwalking state. The answer lies in the countermeasure the Foundation uses to contain the girl.

They have a new drug that can be traced back to the infamous Russian Sleeping Experiment. It can help you fight back against so many things that can make you fall asleep on this floor. But, you'd better do everything quickly before those side effects kick in and turn you into insane like those agents as well. You can find many such drugs on this floor. You can find them in containers, on those agents, and even on an AI-powered vendor machine.
Yes, there is a Foundation AI Operative disguised as a vendor machine on this floor. It will brief you on what it knows about what happened on this floor. It will open the path to the hidden area of this floor for you. It survived where the fragile mind failed.
But that's still not all the stories you can get from this week's updates. There are more. There are documents telling you additional stories about what people do when they get caught in such a containment breach.

An agent tried to blow up the elevator door to escape and re-establish containment.
A woman who suffered from insomnia, who checked in after she heard about an urban legend of this floor.
A thief who heard about rumors of the mayor's corruption tried to rob his vault in this chaos. (Well, unbeknownst to him, the mayor was actually using that embazzled money in a much darker project than for his personal luxury life.)
There were two versions of the Foundation documents on how to enter the girl's room and how to terminate anyone who may be breaking those protocols.
All may have ended in tragedies, yet those people once lived and left you with something that may help you on your journey to confront the girl.
That's for this week. But what are all those about? Have you heard about the Existential Elk Theory by Norwegian philosopher Peter Wessel Zapffe in his essay <>? Don't worry. The story will unfold. For now, we already have a new song that sings about it in your Boombox. The girl may not be your enemy. She may be a force of nature. After all, she was once an angel. She didn't join the side of Lucifer. Yet she still got banished. (To reflect this in the game, you will find that her subordinates will not team up with other demons to attack you. They are more like a separate faction.) She may even be the solution to all those horrors humanity faces behind the veil.
