DD# 270 Each Corpse Left Behind; Each Reminder of Why We Fight!

Hi, everyone. Welcome to the 270th Developer's Diary of this game.

Before we start, just a reminder, Saint Patrick's Day is still ongoing, but it's likely the last day of it. (It runs between Mar. 15 and Mar. 20, your local system time.) So, you may want to grab some green stuff before it's over.

Now, let's start this week's content summary.
The main focus is still on the main story. It has been a very productive week.

A big chunk of the 4th floor of the North Peak has opened up; it's totally optional, but it fills in some blanks for character and story developments. It's the "Waste Processing Room."
There are many "Failed Experiments" inside.

You can also find a document that gives you some ideas about how a hero from the last war that sealed away that thing in the North Peak, slowly turned into a "villain" in other people's narratives.

Well, to avoid spoiling too much, I am showing you only a small part of the document.
Fun fact 1: This part is inspired by one of Elon Musk's retweeted X posts. I see it fits quite well in this story. And the feeling is real. Unlike some leftist propaganda so detached from reality.
Fun fact 2: Do you know humanity slaughters more than 220 million chickens, 3.8 million pigs, and about 1 million cattle every day? Life is simply unfair, isn't it?
Fun fact 3: Deep down, many people love Homelander.

This location also serves as a place of reflection. Many strong and powerful men had their failures. They simply do not show you. But each failure becomes a stepping stone toward their success. Each corpse left behind here is a reminder of the cost they paid and why they fight.

As an extension to this part of the content, you don't have to progress the main story deep down here to see some of them.

Flesh-themed caves and Failed Experiments-themed caves can now appear in Wonderland Travel Agency as procedurally generated, random locations you can explore since the very beginning. The loot there also matches the theme; you can find a lot of strange meat and some other things.

Move a bit further, and you will find the "workers" here are not entirely human.
They are servitors

If you have the reprogramming technology from a previous side quest, you can even turn them into pets to serve you instead.
An entire category, "Cyborg," has been added to make them more unique, opening up our future imagination. Maybe you can turn your characters into one later if we go down that path.
Two new skills for machines/cyborgs are also added.

They work a bit differently because the resources they cost are certain items instead of your magic points. We now have the built-in support for this system. If you are making a machine-heavy group with all those drones and robots, you may not want to sell all those scraps and batteries to vendors anymore.

If you don't have the required item to use the skill, it will show you what's missing. This is just to improve the playing experience.

That's the optional part. Now, let the story continue. (Without too many spoilers.)

(Tencent has nothing to do with the story. I am just playing some homophone jokes here. And it also shows how the "Truth of Aten" messes up people's brains.)

From a game design perspective, I made the Red Dragon Soldiers charge in first to serve two purposes. For one, it's a world-ending event; you are not the only hero to save the world. Everyone shall at least try to stop the Aten Cult, no matter what your previous relationship with them is. The second, they are easily disposed of by the "Truth of Aten," showing the game mechanics of an upcoming battle. Previously, you only heard about it. Now, you see such a relic in action. You are about to fight an enemy who holds this relic. You are reminded of all the intel you previously collected. Now, it's your time to defeat this foe.

Conveniently, I just added a blindfold for you. You can find them in various vendors. It may also drop from various enemies.
That's one solution. You can also find out about others. You may use teammates who have no vision. (Such as those statues or some undead creatures.) You may use spells or items to blind yourself. You may just say, screw it! Let's just throw out tons of damage or hard stun/silence this guy to his death! The choice is all yours.

Now, regarding the Boss fight itself. Unlike the previous mini-boss version, Kheperheb has been empowered into three stages.

During the transition of each stage, he also has some lines to indicate the escalation.
You can find more details about this fight on the game's wiki. Here is a short version:
Stage 1:
He still tries to convince you to leave peacefully. He just throws some fireballs or sunbeams at you as warning shots.
Stage 2: Once you have gotten him down to 75% of his MaxHP.
He begins charging the "Truth of Aten." Each time, it took him two turns to finish charging. You can interrupt him. But once it's fully charged, he will open the book. Everyone in your group who cannot resist memetic visual info-hazard will be affected and start to become confused or fall into madness. (Based on the story, prolonged exposure can turn almost anyone into an Aten Cultist. And that's their end game. Only a small percentage of people with a strong will can fully resist. But that does not matter anymore once they have more than half of Earth's population on their side.)
Stage 3: Once you further lower Kheperheb's HP to 33%
He becomes desperate and starts to use all the power he can control. The "Truth of Aten" no longer needs to charge. He can cast it every single turn. In addition to that, he also casts a random spell at the same time.
Fun fact of this battle:
The brainwashed Red Dragon soldier can sometimes throw some flashbangs at you to blind you. That somehow nullifies Kheperheb's "Truth of Aten" attack. Guess that's just one of Kheperheb's questionable life choices. Anyway, it's meant to be fun instead of putting three totally optimized and synchronized killing machines to murder you. So, hope you enjoy. :)
At the end of this battle, Kheperheb's part shall end here. He is a villain. But not some random cartoon villains. Return to this world thousands of years later, find people no longer have faith, or at least not his ancient faith, try to do something to "fix" the world, and also hold another evil at bay. Unfortunately, in this timeline, it does not work out.
You can still find him as a wandering boss in random Wonderland Travel Agency locations even after his story here. Because there are endless parallel universes, wild mutations, and random dungeons.

Alright, that's most of the game content for this week.
Welcome to the "behind the scenes" part, or, as some may call it, the "propaganda" part.
At this very moment, I am holding the front in the stock market both in China and the US. In some narratives, some may say I am fighting for everyone's 401K. But, you know, my motivation is not so noble. Because of the recent war in Iran, there have been many casualties. There are many corpses we leave behind in the market. Many stocks have fallen. Yet, as I mentioned before, natural selection makes survivors stronger and better. That's the NEOLITHIA spirits, we have been here for many crises ago. Things have not been as bad as in 2015 or 2020. The weak suffer while the strong endure. I am still making money. And I am still supporting President Donald Trump!

Oh, well, our Trump clone just got a new idle animation. Tremendously improved over the old one, made when I was not so good at 3D animation long ago.

This is from one of this game's SAPC++ era updates from 9 years ago. It has been so many years.
I still believe Donald Trump is one of my best investments to create a better world.
Look at Venezuela, look at Iran, he has done so much to make this world more aligned with my vision.
Along the way, many have fallen, many have changed their hearts, many are tired, many have become cynical, but I will not. This is NEOLITHIA.
We leave many corpses behind, each of them a reminder of why we fight.
The point here is not whether you agree with me about Trump.
The point here is you need to have something worth fighting for in your life.
"Over the course of your life, you will find that things are not always fair. You will find that things happen to you that you do not deserve and that are not always warranted, but you have to put your head down and fight, fight, fight. Never ever ever give up. Things will work out just fine."
In this game, you shall be able to find characters with conflicting ideas and motivations. Some of them become your allies, some become enemies based on your choices. But in the end, they have all lived because they once fought for things they believe in. They are not just some story devices. They are not there just for you to farm them for their loot. They are the heroes in their own stories, even though they may be villains in other people's stories. That's the beauty of humanity. I believe God didn't make humanity into a hivemind for many reasons. This shall be one of them.

In this regard, a new song has also been added to the game. The character song for the President of Nise Federation, called <>, to foreshadow her story. Others may see you as a villain in their stories, others may disrespect you, and outsiders may even see your entire nation as an anomaly, refusing to treat you as their "normal" part of the world. And this is how you become Untouchable.

Oh, wait a second, there is another thing worth mentioning. This is the last Spring Sale the game <> participates in. The game will disappear shortly afterward because the developers got into some big financial trouble. They make classical open-world Chinese RPGs with a high degree of freedom. They developed the first RPG I played back when I was in elementary school, when not many people even owned a PC. Unlike many games back then, they don't mind if you play the bad guy or do questionable things. They also explored many topics considered taboo by many "modern" standards. (For example, they asked, "Will you chop off your penis to become a monster so that you can learn a very evil Kung-Fu style to 'cancel' your enemies?" That's the 1990s! They are so ahead of their time. ) NEOLITHIA's level of freedom is more or less inspired by them. Unfortunately, they will soon turn into another corpse we will have to leave behind on this journey. And most of their games may never be localized outside of China.
But each corpse left behind is a reminder of why we fight!
NEOLITHIA is and will remain the longest-living RPG in China.
