DD# 271 The Dark Infrastructure Beneath
Hi, everyone. Welcome to the last developer's diary of March.
But, before we start, tell me, how do you feel about last week's diary?
Many have perished this week, just as many are no longer with us during this game's more than 21-year journey to fulfill a revelation or prophecy, depending on how you perceive it. Yet, among them, each has people who remember them. Thus, before we start, allow me to take a few moments to remind you how awesome Chuck Norris was.
Time to add one more fact to his many well-known deeds: Chuck Norris can make NEOLITHIA add a special update this week to honor him, in addition to the normal daily updates!
Thanks for all the action movies and memes.
This is not the end of his legend; as long as his name is mentioned, he never truly dies.
Now, let's move on to the game content. Development continues on North Peak 4F. Two additional rooms have been finished. Both of them are optional. But they add more details to what is going on here.
In the top left, it's a room with many servers and machines. You can find out how the project is funded.
In the top right, it's a biolab. It provides information such as the usage of those servitors.
Of course, there is some loot you can get.
The majority of this floor has been finished; only a secret room remains.
You can access that room by entering the correct password at the terminal in the biolab. It will reveal another dark secret. The mechanics have been implemented. Yet, in theory, you can only find the clue during the final confrontation. Thus, even though you can technically go there right now if you already know the password, from a development point of view, it's likely going to be implemented after the ending of Chapter 3.
That's the main story progression with as few spoilers as possible.
Now, let's move on to see other content.
As mentioned in the last diary, I have been playing a soon-to-be-delisted Chinese Wuxia game. So, naturally, I have been taking ideas from that game and applying some of them to ours.
Here are some examples.
The Bang Qiang Skill:
A new skill known as Bang Qiang has been added to the game.
Unlike many other skills, the Bang Qiang skill adds a bonus to a teammate's speech skill check rather than having an impact directly.
The idea is that some characters can now provide you with a bonus in skill checks even though they themselves may not be very good at those skill checks, so that teamwork becomes more useful in some cases.
To accompany this change, an item prefix and a pet trait that improves the Bang Qiang skill have also been added.
The Caishen Statue:
In Chinese folklore, there are many "gods" for many things. As it's human nature to seek wealth, the god of wealth is highly respected. You can exchange Mark of Dragon for one, and maybe it can give you a bonus to gain some additional battle income. It may also drop from some enemies as loot in China.
Of course, depending on your customized faith, you can either take advantage of it or...
Burn this heretic idol and gain some devotion!
The game system is quite flexible. You can play the way you want. After all, even in Warhammer 40K, you can see some inquisitors don't mind using demonic relics to achieve their goals.

Can your reality be distorted by other people's narrative? (Here, you use narratives to destroy your enemies instead.)

As long as you can think independently, you can stand against a demon who can deceive you with almost everything.
The Human Blood Mantou:
Here is the part where the English translation may not fully describe the grimdark beauty and sorrow of this item. Thus, I am putting the description of both languages here.
You can now cook this kind of mantou if you know the ingredients. There will be more about this item later. After all, this is one of the most famous dark Chinese foods associated with many stories in history and fiction.
But why?
All those seemingly separated contents are connected in a way.
The next week will be Qingming in China. A season where families gather to mourn those who are no longer with them. I have some ceremony duties for all three family members who passed away last year. A reminder of the lingering sorrow. Yet, as I mentioned last week, all those corpses we left behind only make us stronger. The only two people who could have held me back all those decades are no longer in this world. One passed away in 2025, and the other passed away in 2018. Look how much more I can gain once I stop playing fair in those past months.
Because of this, you can find the main story ahead, and the motivation behind a certain character you will soon confront is quite realistic.
You either die young as a hero or live long enough to become a villain.
You may think you will never become a villain.
But that's simply because you have not lived long enough to experience something that will push you to cross that line.
Many of your original teammates from the last adventure in the last war 20 years ago may have found a good ending. Those two will not. Life is simply unfair, isn't it?
Many of the dark stories in this game have real-life counterparts as their infrastructure.
Hopefully, for you, such an experience will be limited to the boundaries of the game stories.
