DD# 33 The Tale of Perfect World

Hello, everyone. Welcome to another week's developer diary!

It's time to declassify one of the operations run by Captain Nameless and the financial department.
The operation mostly took place in August 2021. Actually, it just concluded a few days ago.

A side story has been added to the game based on this operation.
Previously, the captain has talked about some of his background in his story.
Now, for the first time, you may directly jump into his memory and relive a part of his story that happens quite recently to see how exactly the financial department operates.

It's about the stock market.
It's about a stock called "Perfect World."
It happens in both realities. (Some clues exist in previous DDs.)
It's our story both in and out of the game.
However, there is more to it.
There is something more than just make the investment.
There is something behind the rise and fall of the stock price.
We are living in history. A history of the future.
Thus, the future shall know the struggle of the entire game industry in China. All the game companies, developers, gamers in China are in this together.

This is a nation that banned consoles for 14 years.
This is a nation that has the most hash censorships.
This is a nation that calls games opium.
This is a nation where ignorant parents will send their kids to take illegal electroshock to "cure" their "game addiction."
This is now also a nation that only allows everyone under 18 to play games from 8 pm to 9 pm on the weekend.

However, we can still win this!
The tale needs a triumph ending that brings hope to people that suffer.

The path to achieving everyone's personal liberty to play games in China is still long and grim.
However, at least, we won this round in the stock market both in and out of the game.
It's an operation that crosses the 4th wall.
It's an operation in this metaverse where there is no boundary between the game and our reality.

Many consider the metaverse will not come for a while.
However, in this tale, we are right in it.
Maybe you can't find any records of the captain and a certain Illuminati girl operating in our stock market. Maybe it's just because they are secret society members that work under the veil. :P
They were here in August 2021.
They were here in March 2020.
They were here in July 2015.
We are in their world and they are in ours. Isn't that fascinating?

However, once again, please don't take this as an investment suggestion.
As the captain said, if you don't have a heart of iron, you shall never walk on that Wall Street or get involved in the A-share market of China.
Especially when investing in the game stocks, it's a malicious hostile market. Nobody knows when the government will bomb us with negative news again.
From a -10% loss to +20% gain and then reduce to +12% gain in a short period of time can easily cause heart attack to many.

I once just wanted to make a small profit. However, the government regulation forced my hand to defend this industry. Now, I made a lot more.

New repeatable side story: A tale of Perfect World. (It's about Captain Nameless and the financial department's operation...just a few days ago.)
Basically, it's a mini-dungeon with 4 Bosses, including the infamous Doctor Yang. Thus, bring something to counter thunder damage will be a good idea.
Other operations that Captain Nameless was involved in the past are also displayed in his dialogue. But, those are not done yet.
The Dust of History from SAPC++ is now returned, serving as a dungeon currency.
New area: A Memory of Perfect World.
New area: Museum of Weird History. (You can find an NPC to spend your Dust of History. It's located in Liu)

Optimized NPC on NPC / NPC on Player collision detection, a coordinate cache has been implemented.
It's likely going to keep FPS stay at 60 in Liu when the player is not moving, no matter how many NPC has been generated.
Previously, if you intentionally cause a traffic jam, the FPS may drop to 30.
Big objects such as vehicles are not optimized yet as they follow a different set of rules. The cache itself may also be further optimized in the future.

DD #32 Unusual Items of Normal People

Hello! Welcome to another week's developer's diary!

It's an unusual week in the game industry of China.
On Monday, a government regulation banned all people under 18 years old from playing games except from 8 pm to 9 pm on the weekend. That effectively killed every companies stock price. However, some good companies immediately took action to save the market. For example, Perfect World announced another round of stock repurchase that worked miracles the next day! I will also not comply with such ridiculous regulations. I consider it lacks basic humanism. It's only fair to let NEOLITHIC can be played by anyone at any time no matter their age or nationality. (Still, a mature content warning applies. But, I will leave the choice to you instead of conceding it to a big government.)

Maybe we are all normal people who live in this world, carrying on to mind our own business. However, all normal people have their own stories. As I am working on the loot systems, I consider it may be a good idea to reflect that part even in the loots you get from the enemies.

With the prefixes system in place, there are some fancy loots with great attributions you can acquire from defeating lots of different enemies. However, a random zombie you put into peace may have their family and loved ones before the tragedy happens to the Queenmouth; an office worker you decide to rob in Liu may need that money to pay his family's bills; there are also rumors that whenever a life ceases to exist, a clock will stop permanently on the exact time. I wonder if that can make them a bit more like living or once-lived people in the game.

In addition to those that may be viewed as "junk items" by some, they shall now also have the possibility to possess items with special attributions. Some "normal" items held by "normal" people may not be just so "normal" after all. One example from real life is, you may find an amulet saving someone from a gunshot. That may happen in the game now as well.

The logic in a supernatural world is that people live on, no matter how humble they are, their life stories will make those "normal" items meaningful, Which transcended into special attributions. There are many people generated in the game every minute in the streets of Liu. Some you may never see again. There may be no chance to tell their life stories for each one of them. However, at least, let what they remain as evidence of their short-lived life.

From the technical point of view, by this week, the most common enemies (some may just be your victims if you decide to be evil.) have their drop list updated to the new prefix and procedurally item generation systems.

Other updates of this week include the open of the 2nd floor of Queensmouth fire department with interesting loots; Item detail window improvements; some quality of life improvements and bug fixes regarding the prefix and item generation system.

Added a new drop list for all zombies that currently do not have a drop list, the list contains: "Photo of Loved One", " Dunning Letter", "Stopped Clock","Bone","Life Potion", "Bobby Pin", "Costume Jewelry","Empty Can", "Scrap", and random shirts/pants/boots.
