Investing in Infrastructure and Research - DevDiary 1

To build a functioning economy, take on military endeavours and sustain humankind, players will need to expand in the Pegasus Galaxy. This is done through establishing outposts, settlements and colonies on planets and moons, as well as constructing space stations in orbit.

The game has six main resources, consisting of both raw materials and abstract output: energy, minerals, rare earth, science, population and happiness.

Most celestial bodies are rugged and hazardous, and thus remote enclosed outposts are the only habitation possible there. These small outposts don’t allow for free construction, and instead are chosen from four outpost types when built: civilian, research, industrial, and military. Each outpost type only contains a few small facilities related to its purpose.

If a planet or moon is suitable enough for human life, you may upgrade your outpost to a settlement or colony depending on the celestial bodies habitability, after which you may construct more facilities there. To construct buildings, you can either click the planet or moon you wish to construct on, or click the Construction View button of a system while it’s selected or hovered over.

This opens the Construction View, shown below, featuring information about the planet or moon, the buildings that have been already built as well as the remaining building slots, free for new construction projects. Simply click an empty slot and click a building shown in the opened building menu to build there. To demolish a building and free its slot for a new one, right click it and confirm the demolishing. Most construction projects take one turn to finish.

In order to upgrade an outpost, you’ll need to hire a governor for the system while doing so. Governors have different strengths and gain more with time, so choosing the right one for what you want to use each system for is crucial to maximising your economy.

Your research efforts, on the other hand, progress automatically based on your science output from various facilities and sources. To choose what to research next or the direction of your long-term research, click the tech tree icon on the top right side of your screen to open it and click a technology to queue it into your research queue.

By utilising these avenues of progress, you will need to conquer and develop many worlds in order to succeed in your mission. Good luck, Director!

Don't forget that The Pegasus Expedition has a demo version available here on Steam, so you can try the game out even before it gets released!
