Chaos Chain - 11/30/23 Devblog

Hey guys!

So, it's been quite a while since I've done a developer blog on here but work has continued on Chaos Chain as normal. Many of you may have noticed that updates were pretty rapid for about three solid months, with me putting out updates about every three to five days.

Still, the game has a lot of content that I have planned out that is not yet finished. That said, I have been making a lot of progress on it and many of the side quests and events and stuff like that which I've had planned for a long time but went into my backlog is now getting worked on.

My plan is to release one more major update before the new year. Ideally, I'd like to release it a few days before Christmas so that I don't have to work on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day again for like the fourth year in a row. I always give myself a lot of work to do because I want to make a good Christmas update, but I pack on the workload a little too thick and then run out of time to adequately test everything after my work is done. So, for the past couple of years, I've had to rush home from visiting with family and friends to put out patches on the holiday which I don't mind doing, but it kind of sucks to be honest. So, I want to give myself plenty of time to make sure I can patch out any issues beforehand.

The update will include a handful of side quests, some improvements and quality of life updates as always, a bunch of new lore and dialogues and new characters to interact with, and so on. The main focus of this update is to pack the game with more gameplay content which will extend the time you can spend with the game for the time being.

Currently in the build that is public, there are around 30 side quests and a few hours worth of the main campaign. I've already got one new side quest in the game and one that I am working on for the next build and a new event which has a few different outcomes and choices that you can make. I have no less than seven other side quests planned, but I don't know how many I will be able to get done in time for this update. Like I said, I don't want to limit my time to test, so I'm just going to work on as much as possible until probably the 16th or 17th of December and then release the update so that I have a couple of days before the holiday where I can put out hot fixes and patches as necessary.

With 2024 just around the corner, I'll continue to work on the game until it's finished. Unfortunately, because I am a single developer, I cannot promise when the game will be entirely finished, but I'm doing my best to make good time with it and keep it running and feeling good to play.

I don't want to release it in a buggy, unfinished state. So, it will just take as long as it needs. The good news is that with each update, it's getting improved and added to which means for all of you customers out there, you get a better final product, even if it takes a little bit longer.

Anyways, if anybody has made it this far, thank you for reading and I hope you're looking forward to the new update. I'll have more news on it as soon as possible.

Thanks for reading!
